Chapter 1727: The Mother Wins

Chapter 1727: The Mother Wins

Back at the Ice Brood Mother, the fight finally reached its end, and the one to fall was Gojo. His lungs had burned, and he couldn’t breathe anymore. With his mana regeneration suddenly being cut off, his thunder step spell failed, he couldn’t maintain his mental defences anymore, and all of his offensive magic crumbled into nothing.

Between a titanic monster body or a small and fragile human body, it was an obvious end that the human would be the first to crumble under stress. Even though Gojo already knew that fact, he didn’t want to see it come or happen.

The moment he slowed down, the Ice Brood Mother smacked him out of the sky into the ground, took her humanoid form, and landed on his chest with a bite. She had been waiting for this moment. It had been a while since she understood that she couldn’t defeat Gojo directly; he was too nimble and cunning to be hunted, so she had to endure his assault and wait for the right moment to bite him.

She had already suffered a lot, was burned and maimed more than once, and not once in her life had she felt as much pain as she had felt in this fight. This small, bald Yeti had been a real monster, and she now has to deal with another one? She didn’t doubt for a second that all of her mates were already dead; none of them was nearly powerful enough to survive.

With her fangs deep into Gojo’s chest, she had this strong urge to push even deeper and rip his heart out, but then held back. Taking one hoarse breath, she only delivered enough neurotoxin to paralyze him.

She has to repopulate her brood after this, and she won’t let those powerful genes go to waste, especially now that they wiped out all of her mates. This wasn’t just a desire; if she didn’t keep the brood powerful and numerous enough, they would eventually be all killed and eaten by stronger monsters.

She growled and glared at him for a second, her body twitching, and then come to a halt. All of her instincts told her to kill right now, and without hesitation, she could feel it looking into his dying blue eyes.

Judging by the smell, she could confirm that Gojo was a young and bald Yeti; he smelled a lot like them. So, he hasn’t matured fully yet, which honestly made her terrified. The Yetis were never this strong; even their chieftains were barely strong enough for her to see them as potential mates.

This one was powerful enough to challenge her and had the potential to become far stronger than her. He was in the same realm as that snow and wind bastard who only shows up at night. She had long since learned her lesson. Kill them before they grow stronger.

Gojo could see her, a pale woman with pale white hair, eight red eyes, and ears as long as those of elves. So, besides the eyes, her humanoid form looked similar to elves, if elves were as pale as the snow. If she were to lie in the snow and close her eyes, she would blend right in and disappear.

As her fangs sank into his chest, his entire body stopped moving, and he was paralyzed. To the Ice Brood Mother, this was a victory. To Gojo, he was at least glad that her poison paralyzed all nerves, so he couldn’t feel that much pain.

But even in that state, he could feel his heart racing, and his meat growing larger below. Her poison wasn’t normal, and it seemed to help serve her goals. Gojo himself found the situation amusing. For the first time, he had fully lost control of his body.

He could see and hear, but he couldn’t feel or move. The Ice Brood Mother sniffed him several times, looked around to see if anyone was coming, and then turned back toward him with a nasty, angry glare on her face.

The Ice Brood Mother didn’t feast on his immediately, but instead leaned back, groaned, and puked a flood of blood beside him. She was messed up, and her mind was already in shambles. It seems that she tried to turn back into her giant spider form, but failed.

For all magical monsters that have a humanoid form and a large true body, their humanoid form can act as a low-power state. When a human’s body gets too damaged, they fall into a coma while their body recovers and rests. For those monsters, they are forced back into a humanoid form to save on energy.

So, if they are full of energy and in their humanoid form, excessive damage would force them back to their true form to be able to fight and protect themselves. But if they are too damaged in their true form, but not killed, they shift back to a humanoid form to make the recovery easier.

Gojo, albeit unable to move, found it funny seeing the Ice Brood Mother grapple with that fact. He doubted she was ever forced into a corner like this before.

She tried to transform again and failed. The pain was too much to bear, and she felt like passing out at any second now.

It could’ve gone both ways, and she already thought she would be the first to fall. But luck was on her side; she was a bigger and stronger monster, and he was merely a weak and tiny Yeti.

She took a second and looked around… All of her mates were already dead, and her kin were too afraid to swarm the nest without her. The other bald Yeti, the large one, must have been just as powerful.

She could feel everything with her threads, and her kin were sending countless messages to her. All of her mates were killed, Arad was sitting in the nest resting, and he seemed to be looking in her direction, meaning he was about to start moving again.

She sent them one message back. “Do anything to keep him away from me. I know you can’t fight him, so find a way.”

She then glared at Gojo and kicked him in the face in frustration. Then, she grabbed him by the foot and started dragging him away. This was all his fault. If he weren’t so strong, if he didn’t wound her too much, she wouldn’t need to send her daughters to their death.

She wanted to rush back to the nest, but in her current state, she would just be killed.
