The Don's Deadliest Obsession
Chapter 147: You’re unbelievable.
I should probably be furious...... Instead, I find myself wondering what exactly I have done to deserve such harm done to my car.
Then again, I know exactly what I had done.
I had put my name on her finger without her consent after knocking her unconscious.
She has every right to be angry.
Still, watching her take her revenge on my Bentley was an unexpectedly entertaining experience.
When she finally stops, she steps back and admires her work then she brushes a few pieces of glass from her dress, adjusts herself, and even stomps her heels against the ground.
Then she pulls out her phone, i watch as she furiously types something into the phone. A moment later, mine pings.
I look down to see it’s a message from my wife.
****This is for you branding me without my consent. Try that shit again and I’ll be breaking more than just your car windows. PS I hope this car was one among the expensive ones.****
I read it once then again.
A laugh escapes me.
Yes.
It was an expensive car.
That was a Bentley Continental GT.
One of the cars I particularly liked.
I slip my phone into my pocket, still smiling as I watch her walk back towards Hakeem.
Nyox’s voice comes from behind me.
"Your wife crashes your car and you’re smiling?"
I turn slightly.
He is standing near my desk, looking at me as though I have lost my mind.
"Yeah. You two deserve each other."
I chuckle.
"You should see the other things she’s capable of."
"I’m not really sure I want to."
He walked closer to the window and looked down at the wreckage.
"That’s a Bentley, Lysander."
"I’m well aware."
"And she just destroyed it."
"I have eyes, Nyox."
He shakes his head, looking between me and the car.
"Fucking hell. I leave for a few years and come back to find you’ve married a woman who can destroy your property in broad daylight, and you look like someone just handed you a million dollars."
I shrugged.
"She’s quite pretty when she’s angry."
"Jesus Christ."
He rubs his forehead.
"Yeah. You two definitely deserve each other."
Before I can respond to that, he picks up his jacket from the back of the chair.
"Come on, I gotta go see Vicky. I’ll see you later, Lys."
"Yeah. Later."
He starts towards the door.
"Can you get Jeremiah on your way out?"
"Got it."
He disappears into the corridor, leaving me alone with the documents and the view of my ruined car.
She is probably already on her way to the hospital, feeling very pleased with herself.
I return to my desk and sit down. A few minutes later, the door opens.
Jeremiah walks in, holding a folder.
"You wanted to see me?"
I look up at him with a smirk.
"Yeah."
He places the folder on my desk.
"I know that look on your face.....What is it?"
I lean back in my chair.
"What flowers do women like? I need you to send some flowers to my wife."
——————-
Nerissa’s POV
The hospital comes into view through the car window, its pale walls bright beneath the morning sun. I’ve been looking forward to seeing Victoria all morning, but now that we’re here, I feel the weight of everything that happened yesterday settling over me again.
My finger throbs faintly where the tattoo sits beneath my skin. I curl it into my palm, then force myself to relax it.
Not now.
I’m here for Victoria.
Hakeem pulls up near the entrance. Before he can get out to open my door, I push it open myself and step onto the pavement.
Isabella is waiting beside the hospital doors, her phone in one hand. She looks up as I approach, slips the phone into her bag, and hurries towards me.
"Nerissa."
She pulls me into a quick hug. I return it, resting my cheek against her shoulder for a second. There’s something reassuring about seeing her here, something familiar after the strange, awful morning I’ve had.
When she steps back, her expression turns apologetic.
"I’m sorry for last time," she says. "I promise Uncle Gerald isn’t always like that."
I shrug, trying to make it seem like it didn’t bother me as much as it did. "Yeah, I figured. It’s cool, though."
Isabella studies my face, as if she’s checking whether I mean it. Then she squeezes my hand, in a small, grateful gesture.
I give her a faint smile.
The hospital doors slide open behind her, and people move in and out around us.
Then Isabella’s eyes narrow.
"Now tell me. What’s wrong? You look beat."
I glance down at myself. "Do I?"
"Very much." She tilts her head, looking me over. "You look tired, your hair’s kinda a mess.
"That’s just my face."
"No, it isn’t."
I start walking towards the entrance. Isabella falls into step beside me, still watching me with that curious look.
I could tell her about the tattoo. I could tell her how I woke up, how I found Lysander’s name inked onto my finger, how furious I was when I realized what he’d done.
But I don’t want to talk about him yet, so I choose the other thing.
"The only thing beaten is your brother’s car."
Isabella turns her head. "What?"
I keep walking, pretending the subject is no big deal. "I crashed your brother’s car. Beat it up with a bat."
She stops so suddenly that I take two more steps before realizing she’s no longer beside me.
I turn back to find Isabella staring at me.
"You did what?"
"I beat up his car."
Her mouth opens, but no words come out.
I raise my brows. "What?"
"His car?"
"Yes, Isabella. Your brother’s car."
"With a bat?"
"Do you want me to draw you a picture?"
She presses her lips together, trying very hard to hold herself together. For a second, I think she’s about to lecture me about property damage but then she lets out a laugh.
It starts as a little burst of disbelief, but quickly grows into a full, helpless laugh. She bends forward, one hand pressed against her stomach, the other covering her mouth.
I glance around at the people passing us.
"Isabella," I mutter. "Keep it down."
"I can’t," she manages, still laughing. "You actually took a bat to Lysander’s car?"
"He really deserved it."
Isabella shakes her head, still grinning. "You’re unbelievable."
She loops her arm through mine, guiding me towards the entrance again. "Come on. Let’s go see Victoria before you tell me anything else that makes me love you more."
I look at her.
"I knew I’d love having a sister-in-law."
