The Don's Deadliest Obsession

Chapter 146: Let her be.

Lysander’s POV.

I needed Nyox back.

Even though I would never outrightly admit it, having my twin brother around again was proving to be more useful than I had anticipated.

Taking over Spain was going to be a lot of work and I already had enough on my plate.

The Hamilton brothers were gone, but that didn’t mean their empire would simply collapse and hand itself over to me.

There were businesses to secure, territories to divide, men to question, and alliances to reconsider. Every decision I made would determine how smoothly this transition went.

I needed someone I could trust to handle things.

I trusted Jeremiah with my life. I would gladly put a bullet in my own head before doubting his loyalty, but there were certain things I couldn’t leave to him because he was too soft.

That’s why he was my Consigliere. He had the brains to think things through, to analyse situations and advise me on the best course of action. He was intelligent, strategic and capable of seeing things I sometimes overlooked but when it came to getting his hands dirty, he wasn’t always the man I needed.

I suppose that was partly my fault.

Growing up, I had done everything I could to shield him from this life. I had tried to keep him away from Father’s cruelty, away from the things that made a man question whether he was still human. While I learned how to survive in that house, I made sure Jeremiah didn’t have to experience everything I did.

I wanted him to have something resembling a normal childhood.

Apparently, I had succeeded a little too well. He turned out softer than Nyox and me, and while that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, it wasn’t always useful in our world.

That left me with one person.

Nyox.

He was cunning, ruthless when necessary, and smart enough to understand what needed to be done without having someone hold his hand. More importantly, he wasn’t afraid to make decisions that others would find unpleasant.

He was the best person for the job...so I brought him back.

Currently, we were in my office going through the preliminary arrangements from the Hamilton brothers businesses. Documents were spread across my desk, and Nyox was seated opposite me, looking through a report from one of our men.

I leaned back in my chair, studying the figures on the page. The Hamilton brothers had built their empire over several years. They had men stationed in different territories, businesses operating under their names, and enough loyalists to make the transition difficult.

Some of those men would probably be willing to work under a new Don.

Others wouldn’t and I had no intention of leaving a nest of potential traitors behind me.

"There’s still the matter of their loyal subjects," I said, tapping my finger against the document. "Some of them have been with the brothers for years. I doubt they’ll willingly accept me as their new Don."

Nyox looks up.

"We could offer them a chance to switch sides."

I raised an eyebrow.

"And if they refuse?"

"Then we kill them."

I considered that for a moment.

"I’d rather finish them off from the beginning. I don’t want men working under me while secretly waiting for an opportunity to put a bullet in my back."

"Fair enough."

Nyox returned his attention to the document.

"I suggest we finish with their loyal subjects first. Get rid of the ones who are too attached to the brothers, then approach the rest. It would be easier to negotiate with men who understand they have no other option."

I nodded slowly.

"That would probably be the best approach. I just don’t want to..."

*Crack.....

The sound of glass breaking reaches us from somewhere outside my office.

I turn my head towards the source of the sound.

Nyox glances up.

Neither of us move immediately. Whatever it was, my men could handle it.

I turn back towards him.

"Like I was saying, we need to be careful about how we handle the transition. This is a new regime. I don’t want it looking like I mercilessly slaughtered every man who worked for the Hamiltons. We need to tread carefully, at least initially, so the others don’t start thinking..."

*Crash....

I stop, a sigh escaping my mouth.

What the fuck was going on outside?

I push my chair back and stand, walking towards the large office window.

That’s when I I see her.

My wife.

She is wearing a pretty little gown that hugs her sweet body, showing off her curves in a way that makes me briefly forget the documents waiting on my desk.

Her hair falls around her shoulders, and she is walking around in a pair of high heels.

I narrow my eyes.

Those heels look ridiculously thin. Is she trying to break her neck?

I watch her approach my car, a baseball bat in her hand.

A smile spreads across my face.

Oh. So that’s what the noise was.

She raises the bat and brings it down against the driver’s window.

Another crack sounds.

I rest one hand against the window frame, thoroughly entertained.

My wife is smashing my car.....My very expensive car.

I watch her take another swing. This time the glass shatters, scattering across the interior.

She looks pleased with herself.

Fucking adorable.

My men begin approaching her, probably wondering whether they should intervene. One of them says something, but Nerissa turns towards them and says something to them that I can’t hear from where I’m standing..

Whatever it was, it worked.

They stop right in their tracks and my smile widens.

My men are scared of my wife and I can’t blame them.

My phone starts ringing, I glance at the screen and answer the call.

"Don. Your wife..."

"Let her be."

There’s a brief silence then.....

"Understood."

I end the call and return my attention to the window.

Nerissa is now working on the other windows. She moves around the car with that determined little expression of hers.

I watch her carefully as she raises the bat again.

She was going to destroy the entire thing.

Every last window......

And judging by the enthusiasm with which she is swinging, she has absolutely no intention of stopping until she is satisfied.
