The Devil CEO's Contract Wife

Chapter 299: Adrian King [2]

Chapter 299: Adrian King [2]

“Where is he? Where is my son?!” Agatha rushed in, eyes erratic as she searched for him.

The instant she set her eyes on us, she turned feral.

“What did you do to him?!” She screamed at us and came forward.

Ares was quick on his feet, but I was faster.

Slap!

Her head turned the other way, and when she looked back towards me.

Slap!

Agatha stumbled back, holding her red cheek, gaping at me with wide eyes and then at Ares, who didn’t make any attempt to stop my actions.

“You—”

“Don’t come here and start throwing accusations when your son is in there fighting for his life!” I snapped, seething.

She looked towards the door and then at me, tears streaming down her face. She hugged herself, crying like a child.

At the sound of footsteps, we turned to Constance, who came into view.

The doors from the surgery room burst open that instant, and the doctor was out, pulling down his surgical mask.

“Dr. Greg…” Ares spoke up.

“How is he?” I demanded.

“We’ve stabilized him for now, but he’s lost a significant amount of blood. We’re doing everything we can, but he’s bleeding out too fast. We need a donor immediately.”

“D-Donor?”

“His blood type is rare.”

“I’m his mother!” Agatha came forward. “I can donate as much as I can.”

“You’re AB negative?”

Agatha’s mouth hung. “N-No, I’m—”

“I’m AB negative.”

It was Athena who spoke up, walking close to us.

“I came as soon as I could. Is Adrian okay?”

“Please follow me, we have to act fast.”

Athena nodded, following the doctor back in.

The accident was all over the news, images of the scene flashing everywhere. It was a bit large-scale because of the multiple hits; there were many injured, but none confirmed dead yet.

I felt the band-aid on my forehead before moving my gaze to Ares.

He was calmly seated beside me, arms resting on his thighs, but only I knew he wasn’t a bit calm; the pressure seizing his entire body caused the material of his shirt to tighten against his muscles.

It wasn’t just the pressure of awaiting news from Adrian’s surgery, but that we were in one place with the most unlikely people.

It had been a distant battle, and now that we were all here, the line was drawn thin. We were here for one thing. Adrian. And the instant that was over, I had a feeling this Chapter was about to close.

I had one goal now… to protect Adrian from the likes of Constance, who thought she could use him and Agatha too.

I kept my gaze entirely fixated on Agatha; she must have crawled out from whatever hole after she heard of Adrian’s accident. The only thing that could pull her out of the distress in the underworld.

I planned to corner her completely, and it was working, but this mishap felt like a divine punishment. The only innocent person was Adrian. He didn’t deserve what happened to him.

Fear and panic flashed on Agatha’s face, and it only seemed to increase by the passing hour. She was running different emotions all at the same time. I couldn’t imagine how I would feel if something like this happened with Esme. I hate to admit that I understood her dread as a mother.

It was already late, so I had Tori be with Esme until we got back. I can’t bring her here, knowing what happened to Adrian will break her heart.

Dr. Greg came into view, and in an instant, we were all up on our feet.

“Miss King has been given a room to rest. She will be fine.”

“What’s more important is my son!” Agatha hissed. “Is he okay?”

He released a heavy breath. “Adrian made it through surgery… he’s stable for now.”

“Stable for now? C-Can we see him?”

“He’s been moved to recovery. You can’t see him yet…” He shifted his gaze to Ares. “Can I see you, Mr. King? Privately.”

“Whatever it is, you should see me. I’m his mother!” Agatha yelled.

“Please, calm down.”

“Calm down?! I can’t see my son! It’s clear you don’t know how to do your job!”

“Agatha!” Constance shunned her.

I watched as Ares followed him. I wonder what could be wrong if he had to call Ares aside.

“Agatha?”

I darted my eyes in her direction at that moment, Constance asked that question.

“N-Nothing, I just need some air.” She grabbed her bag and scurried out.

I pulled out my phone, which Nico had managed to salvage for me, the screen flickering, but I was able to make a call.

I pressed the phone to my ear, and the moment it was answered, I spoke quietly. Constance was heavily concentrated on Ares and Dr. Greg, so I didn’t worry about her eavesdropping.

“Keep an eye on her.” I ended the call.

Ares walked back to me, placing his hand on the small of my back, leading me towards a corner.

“What’s wrong? Is Adrian gonna be okay?”

That was the only reason Dr. Greg pulled him aside, right? Agatha wasn’t in the right mental state to receive any news.

Ares’ expression had shifted drastically to the point it looked like he was anxious about something.

“Honey?”

“Dr. Greg…” he began. “He said we need to run a DNA test on Adrian.”

“W-Why?” I asked. “What does this have to do with—”

“With Athena…”

I took a step back, thinking that I had heard wrong, but not until he continued.

“Athena’s blood has…” Ares clenched his teeth as a swirl of emotions cracked the ice. “It has a level of compatibility that suggests a direct biological link.”

“A direct biological link?”

“Athena’s blood is a near-identical match to Adrian’s.”

“Rather than whisper over there, why don’t you speak it out…” Constance cut us off. “We are all here worried about Adrian’s well-being. Whatever it is, say it to me.”

Ares’s eyes turned to stone. “Athena and Adrian will undergo a DNA test.”
