The Darkness System: Rise of the Broken Sovereign
Chapter 302: Soul Manifestation (1)
"Did you assume all dragons were male?" she asked, amused.
Kael opened his mouth. Closed it. "I assumed the ancient retainer of the Lightning Emperor would be... a bit more..."
"Masculine?" She raised an eyebrow. "I’ve been a dragon for five thousand years. Form doesn’t mean much to us. Male, female—both are just shapes." She shrugged. "But yes. I’m female."
Kael blinked. Hhhh. He decided not to pursue the topic further.
"Come," she said. "You need to eat."
She led him through the palace corridors—massive hallways of black stone and golden lightning veins. The palace was enormous. Kael had realized this when he first entered, but walking through it reinforced the scale. Each corridor was wide enough for the dragon’s true form to pass through comfortably. Doors were ten meters tall. Ceilings vanished into shadow.
They reached a dining hall—smaller than the others, clearly designed for human-sized occupants. A table sat at the center, carved from fulgurite. On it, she placed a slab of beast meat from her own storage—a Lightning Bison, peak Mana Heart. The meat crackled with residual electrical energy.
Kael ate. The meat was dense with lightning mana—each bite sent energy flooding through his body. His Tier 5 physique absorbed it greedily.
After the meal, the dragon led him deeper into the palace. They passed through a corridor Kael hadn’t noticed before—hidden behind a formation that the dragon deactivated with a flick of her wrist.
Vvvvm.
A garden.
An underground garden, bathed in artificial sunlight generated by runic formations on the ceiling. Plants grew in organized beds—herbs Kael didn’t recognize, each one radiating different energies.
The dragon walked to a specific bed and picked a single herb. It was small—a stem of translucent silver leaves that shimmered with soul energy so dense Kael could feel it pressing against his consciousness from a meter away.
"Soulbloom Gensing," the dragon said. "A powerful soul herb. Absorbing it will push your soul cultivation significantly. If you can improve your soul power to the Soul Manifestation realm, your soul path won’t lag so far behind your other paths."
She held it out to him.
Kael took it. The herb was warm, vibrating with condensed soul energy.
" Aren’t you going to refine it?" Kael asked. "Purify it? Extract the essence?"
The dragon shrugged. "I’m not an alchemist."
That’s... Well, I expected dragons to be like all knowing beings.
Kael looked at the herb.
He swallowed it.
Gulp.
Hhhh...
For three seconds, nothing happened.
Then—
AGH—!
Immense, blinding, soul-rending pain. The herb’s energy erupted inside his soul core like a star going supernova. Raw and unrefined soul energy flooded through his soul—crack-sizzle—tearing at his soul structure, overwhelming his soul core’s capacity.
Kael collapsed—thud—his hands clutching his head. Grip. His body convulsed—twitch—and blood leaked from his nose and ears. Drip.
The dragon moved. Her hand pressed against Kael’s forehead—pat—and her mana flowed into his soul. It wrapped around his soul core like a protective shell—hummm—preventing the herb’s energy from shattering it entirely.
Hhhh... hhhh...
Kael circulated. The Gra-Khazul Breath of the Deep Green technique activated—thrum—drawing the herb’s raw energy through his soul structure, refining it, integrating it. The dragon’s stabilizing mana smoothed the process—preventing the energy from spiking, guiding it into proper flow patterns.
The dragon watched the technique Kael was using. Her eyes narrowed—flicker—with scholarly interest.
Who created such a profound soul technique? she thought. The structure is ancient. The foundational principles predate the Void Realm’s collapse.
A month passed.
Kael sat in the garden—cross-legged with his eyes closed. The herb’s energy had been fully integrated over weeks of continuous circulation. His soul had been tempered relentlessly—thrum-thrum-thrum—each session pushing him closer to the boundary.
[Soul Cultivation Breakthrough: Peak Soul Tempering Realm.]
His soul core felt dense and nbreakable. The tempering had done its work—his soul structure was now a fortress, compressed and refined to the absolute limit of the Soul Tempering Realm.
One step remained. Soul Manifestation.
Up until this point, a soul cultivator’s soul was confined within their body. They could extend soul sense outward like radar. They could fire invisible soul attacks—Soul Spikes, Soul Severing Blades. But the soul itself remained anchored inside the physical body.
At the Soul Manifestation Realm, everything changed.
The cultivator’s soul became powerful enough to project directly into the physical world.
Soul Projection: The cultivator could manifest a portion of their soul outside their body—usually taking the form of a spiritual avatar, a weapon, or a beast tied to their innate intent. For Kael, this would likely manifest tied to his Slaughter Intent or his Darkness element.
Soul Suppression: The sheer weight of a manifested soul could crush the souls of those in the vicinity. Lower-realm cultivators might faint—or die—from the spiritual pressure alone.
Independence: The soul could temporarily operate independently of the body, allowing the cultivator to scout or attack from a distance without risking their physical form.
The Soul Tempering Realm existed to prepare for this. Every stage of tempering was designed to make the soul an unbreakable structure—because once it left the body, it would be exposed to the raw forces of the physical world. A weak soul would dissipate instantly.
The final step was the most dangerous.
The body naturally acted as a fortress—keeping the soul locked inside. To manifest, the cultivator had to voluntarily shatter the "Soul Shell"—the invisible barrier between the spiritual and physical planes inside their body.
If they shattered it before their soul was dense enough, the soul dissipated. The cultivator became a vegetable or died instantly.
If they succeeded, the soul burst forth—merging with the ambient energy of the world. Soul sense skyrocketed. A normal soul cultivator at Soul Manifestation would gain fifty-plus meters of soul sense.
For Kael—with his Astraeon bloodline, his Transcendent Core, and his extraordinary soul integrity—his soul sense could exceed one hundred meters.
But right now, he needed one thing: a massive influx of soul energy to force the Soul Shell to shatter.
Kael opened his eyes.
He reached into his system storage and pulled out the Netherworld Soul Locking Flag.
