The Darkness System: Rise of the Broken Sovereign
Chapter 301: Domain Framework
The dragon’s lightning eyes studied Kael with ancient curiosity.
"I will train you," the dragon said. "Lightning rule power refinement and body cultivation. Those are my areas of expertise."
Kael looked up at the massive creature. "What about mana and soul paths?"
"Not my areas of expertise," the dragon replied flatly. "I won’t pretend to guide you where I lack qualification."
"What’s the catch?" Kael asked.
The dragon exhaled. "No catch. I’ve been sealed in this chamber for over five thousand years. I’m bored." The dragon’s lips curled—revealing teeth the size of swords. "Brutally, mind-numbingly bored. Training a talented youngster is entertainment."
"The training will be brutal," the dragon warned.
Kael considered. Training from a creature whose aura rivaled the Vorn Family Head. A dragon. A being from the Primordial Era. This wasn’t an opportunity that came twice.
"Agreed."
The dragon nodded. "Prepare yourself. Training begins imme—"
"Wait," Kael said. The question that had been burning in his mind since he entered this chamber finally surfaced. "Are you the Lightning Emperor, Vaelthor?"
The dragon’s eyebrows raised. "Oh? You know the Lightning Emperor’s name? Where did you come by His Majesty’s name?"
Kael explained. The Immortal Soul Sect ruins. The underground trials. The Sect Master—Valdris Arcthel—whose soul remnant had waited five thousand years for a successor before fading entirely.
The dragon’s expression shifted. Its lightning eyes dimmed—flicker—and sadness settled across its features.
"Valdris," the dragon murmured. "What a pity."
The dragon exhaled slowly. "I am not the Lightning Emperor. I am merely a retainer. One of several who served His Majesty during the Primordial Era. When the realm fell, I was sealed here to guard this palace."
Kael filed the information away. A retainer? Not the emperor himself. And yet its aura is already this devastating.
"Come," the dragon said. The sadness vanished—replaced by brisk authority. "We begin."
The dragon raised one claw. Lightning mana surrounded Kael—crackle—and space cracked—snap. A spatial rift swallowed him.
WHOOSH.
Kael materialized in a large chamber deep beneath the palace with golden walls that pulsed with condensed lightning energy. The air was thick with lightning mana. Kael’s Transcendent Core responded immediately—hummm—drinking the ambient energy greedily.
"This is the Lightning Formation Chamber," the dragon’s voice echoed from somewhere above. "It was used by Vaelthor’s personal guards to temper their lightning affinity, mana cultivation, and rule power comprehension. You will train here."
The dragon’s presence receded.
Kael was alone.
Three weeks passed.
Kael trained. Day and night, he circulated lightning mana through his core, using the chamber’s condensed energy to refine his rule power. The process was grueling—each session left his meridians raw—sizzle—and his mana core strained. But the results were undeniable.
His lightning rule power grew significantly denser. The comprehension that had been foundational became intuitive. He could feel lightning—not just manipulate it, but understand it.
He could feel the threshold of the Thunder God Technique’s third form.
His mana core also advanced. The chamber’s saturated environment, combined with his Transcendent Core’s absorption rate, pushed him past the barrier.
[Mana Cultivation Breakthrough: Mana Heart Rank 7.]
The dragon visited regularly—checking his progress, offering brief corrections. Its observations were sharp. Precise. It noticed things Kael missed—inefficiencies in his circulation, waste in his rule power manifestation.
On the twenty-second day, Kael pulled the Thunder God Technique manual from his system storage. He studied the third form.
Realm of the Thunder God—a lightning domain blueprint.
The dragon’s presence materialized behind him. Its massive head leaned down—creak—and examined the manual over Kael’s shoulder.
"Interesting," the dragon rumbled. "This technique was created by someone who understood the law of lightning at a profound level. But it’s incomplete. Only three forms out of what was clearly a larger framework."
"Can you help?" Kael asked.
"I can supplement your understanding of the principles behind lightning domain formation," the dragon said. "A domain is the manifestation of a cultivator’s rule power into a bounded space—replacing the local laws with your own. You already have a gravity domain seed. Forming a lightning domain would give you two domain seeds."
The dragon paused. "That is an extraordinary achievement for someone below the Origin Realm. Domain seeds are the foundation for the Origin Realm, just as rule power is the foundation for both domain seeds and the Spirit Soul realm."
He began the process. The Thunder God Technique’s blueprint provided the framework. The dragon’s guidance provided the theory. Kael’s job was execution.
He compressed his lightning rule power into a singular point within his mana core. Hummm. The energy concentrated.
He expanded it outward—attempting to create a pocket of controlled lightning law around himself.
FZZZT.
The rule power dispersed. Pop. Failed. The energy scattered uncontrollably.
Kael tried again.
CRACK.
His mana core destabilized—whuum—and he coughed blood. Cough. The expansion had been too forceful, tearing at his meridians.
Hhhh...
The dragon observed from the corner. "You’re forcing it," it said. "Rule power isn’t mana. You can’t brute-force it into shape. You need to guide it. Let it find its own form."
A week passed.
Kael meditated. He let go of the framework—stopped trying to impose structure on the lightning rule power. Instead, he let it flow naturally, guiding it gently toward compression.
Hummm...
The energy gathered. Like water finding its own path downhill.
THRUM.
The lightning domain seed formed.
WHUUUM.
It was unstable and small. A ten-meter radius of controlled lightning law surrounding Kael’s body. The air within the radius changed—crackle—becoming heavier, electric, charged with Kael’s rule power.
Kael formed the hand sign for his domain. The Thunder God Technique’s third form provided the framework. His rule power provided the substance. His soul power provided the stability.
"Reality Annex: Heaven’s Execution Chamber."
WHUUUUM.
A boundless dark cloud formed above him—rumble—swirling with condensed lightning. Blue-white arcs shot through the cloud—crackle—and the air within the domain radius shifted. Lightning rule replaced natural law. The pressure was immense.
But before the domain could fully stabilize—
Cough.
Blood erupted from Kael’s mouth. Splatter. The mana strain of activation overloaded his body. His meridians screamed—sizzle—and his mana core shuddered. His vision darkened at the edges.
If not for my Tier 5 body cultivation...
He would have fainted. His body absorbed what it could—creak—acting as a buffer between the mana strain and his internal organs. But the cost was visible. Blood dripped from his nose, his mouth, his ears.
Hhhh... hhhh...
The domain collapsed—fzzzt—dispersing back into ambient energy.
Kael knelt on the chamber floor, gasping.
WHIRRR.
The dragon transformed.
The massive dragon body dissolved.
A young female dragon stood before Kael. She looked to be in her mid-thirties—tall, with storm-grey hair that crackled with residual lightning. Her eyes were the same lightning-gold as her dragon form. She wore simple dark robes, and her expression was amused.
She clapped her hands.
Clap. Clap.
"Well done, lad," she said. Her voice became lighter. "Didn’t expect you to succeed in just a month."
She walked closer, examining him. "But next time, don’t just use the technique as the framework. Infuse more of your lightning rule power. You could also support it with your soul power—but your soul path seemed to be lacking compared to your other paths."
Kael stared at her.
"You’re a woman?"
