Chapter 780: Chapter 780: Master of the Final Blow (Part 2)
Vera Xavier had never once taken a day off. She always performed the best in every surprise inspection, and she never slacked off on a single training exercise!
In fact, in every single event, she was the one who performed the best!
Was her ability to do all these things so well really just luck? Sheldon Caldwell certainly didn’t think so. This was absolutely not luck; it was the result of her diligence and intelligence combined.
At that moment, he didn’t know why, but he found himself believing that as long as she set her mind to something, she could always do it best.
Somehow, a thread of genuine admiration for her began to grow in his heart. Everyone had their strengths and weaknesses, subjects they excelled at and subjects they didn’t. But she had aced every single subject on her college entrance exams, and now, in this performance review, she had taken first place in every event she participated in.
A person like that... her excellence was almost terrifying!
Silas Sullivan looked at Vera Xavier’s smiling expression, then at the silent Sheldon Caldwell and the composed Nathaniel Nathan. He asked Vera, "Why don’t you take up shooting as a hobby? You can’t just have your nose in a book all the time. When you have free time, you can come practice. What do you think?"
He felt Vera Xavier’s talent in this area was one in a million. It would be a waste to just let her go off and study medicine, so he had thought of this compromise.
Vera Xavier turned her head to look at Nathaniel Nathan. His expression was placid. "You don’t need to look at me. Make your own decisions."
Although his face was calm, he was actually quite stunned by her performance today. He knew she was outstanding, but he never knew she could be *this* outstanding.
Sheldon Caldwell never missed an opportunity to make his presence felt. He curled his lip and said, "Pathetic! I thought you were such an independent person, Vera Xavier, but you have to ask Nathaniel Nathan about such a small thing! You’re a disgrace to all women!"
Vera Xavier couldn’t be bothered with him. She asked Silas Sullivan curiously, "But I’m not an official staff member, after all. Wouldn’t it be against the rules for me to train like this?"
Silas Sullivan smiled and said, "It is a bit against the rules, but you’re Nathaniel Nathan’s partner. You must have already passed the background check, which means there are no issues with your status. As long as your status is clear, we can just have him sponsor you, and I’ll write up an authorization for you. Then there won’t be any problems."
Vera Xavier didn’t understand the organization’s regulations at all, but after hearing his explanation, she got the gist. He was going to pull some strings for her.
She smiled lightly and said, "If that’s the case, then there’s no problem."
Hearing the conversation between Vera Xavier and Silas Sullivan made Sheldon Caldwell’s teeth ache. His maternal grandfather was famous throughout Veridia for his upright and impartial character. In all these years, this was the first time he had ever heard of his grandfather pulling strings for someone—and offering to do it himself, no less!
He shot Vera Xavier a sidelong glance and said, "Look at you, getting your way and still playing innocent!"
"If you have a problem with it, you can take it up with Nathaniel Nathan in a fight first," Vera Xavier said flatly. ’After all,’ she thought, ’I know for a fact I can’t beat Sheldon Caldwell, but I’ve got Nathaniel as my backer!’
Nathaniel Nathan shot him a cool glance. Sheldon immediately ran pathetically behind Silas Sullivan and whined, "Grandpa, look! They’re bullying me! Aren’t you going to do something?"
