Susan Caldwell knew that if things continued this way, her life would be pretty much ruined.

So she immediately backed down, rushing to say, "I was just joking, Sir. Please don’t take it to heart. I’ll go to the infirmary right now. I definitely won’t hold up the rest of the training."

After speaking, she limped away in the direction of the infirmary.

Sheldon Caldwell’s face was cold as ice. He desperately wished he could just send her to the principal’s office and have her expelled, but she was his sister, after all. If he really did that, Julian Caldwell would probably tear him to shreds when he got home.

This matter involved the Caldwell family’s reputation, after all!

Sheldon Caldwell said in a grim voice, "Vera Xavier, you are now this squad’s captain. From now on, if any squad members fail to complete their training tasks on time, you will be held jointly responsible. Alright, the brutal training officially begins!"

Vera Xavier saw his incredibly grim expression and silently sympathized with him. ’He must be regretting putting me and Susan Caldwell in the same group.’

Although Sheldon Caldwell’s mood was soured by the incident with Susan Caldwell, he maintained his professionalism. He wouldn’t take his anger out on Vera Xavier or the other students.

The training that followed finally made Vera Xavier understand what "brutal training" really meant. The intensity and difficulty of the drills suddenly shot up to a professional level.

The hundred-plus students who had been selected were, strictly speaking, the most physically fit of all the freshmen. They also possessed high IQs and were extremely quick to learn. Their overall level was much higher than that of the average new recruit at a security firm.

After an afternoon of training, a clear thought struck Sheldon Caldwell. He felt as if he were looking at a crop of promising new recruits. It was just a shame they would never be his employees...

That evening, while the other freshmen were allowed to rest, the hundred or so selected students had to continue their military training.

And after the day’s training was over, Sheldon Caldwell arranged for a small review to assess their progress.

This "review" was actually a competition between the military training squads. Each squad had to demonstrate all the skills and maneuvers they had learned, performing as a single unit led by their captain.

The students were all young and had a competitive spirit, so a rivalry formed between the squads. Everyone wanted to be the best.

The moment Susan Caldwell got back from the infirmary, she called Julian Caldwell. As soon as he picked up, she started to cry. "Dad, help me! Big Brother has a crush on Vera Xavier, and she’s turned him against me! He bullies me every day now! Today, Vera Xavier beat me up, and not only did Big Brother not do anything, he said it was all my fault!"

Julian Caldwell had always treasured her, and Susan Caldwell had already painted a negative picture of Vera Xavier for him. Though he was usually a man of great composure, he couldn’t help but become enraged upon hearing this. He immediately asked Susan what happened.

Susan Caldwell gave him an exaggerated account of what happened, conveniently leaving out the part where she tried to poke Vera Xavier in the eye. Without that crucial piece of context, Vera Xavier’s actions sounded utterly vicious.

Julian Caldwell was so furious he slammed his palm on the table and cursed, "How despicable!"

Susan Caldwell continued, "I didn’t really understand why Vera Xavier was trying to slander me to get on Mom’s good side before, but now I finally get it. She has designs on Big Brother. She wants to marry into our Caldwell family!"
