She decided that if she ever got the chance to get back at Sheldon Caldwell, she absolutely wouldn’t pass it up. How dare he bully her!

The morning was all physical training. In the afternoon, it switched to combat practice. At first, the students were a little hesitant.

After all, fighting was strictly prohibited at school, and the students of Veridia University were basically all top-tier scholars, most of whom weren’t very good at brawling.

But Sheldon Caldwell made all the students go all out with just a single statement: "Pair up. The loser of each match runs ten laps, while the winner continues to the next round. The final four victors from each company will participate in target practice."

Upon hearing this, the boys’ eyes lit up. They knew the target practice involved real guns and live ammunition.

Veridia University was not a military academy, so the vast majority of male students there never had the opportunity to handle a gun, and most boys have an innate fascination with firearms.

Winning meant avoiding the penalty run and getting to participate in live-fire target practice. To them, this was a massive temptation.

The girls weren’t as interested in target practice as the boys, but avoiding the penalty run was incentive enough. They were already exhausted after the morning’s physical training, and the thought of running ten more laps was horrifying!

And just like that, because of Sheldon Caldwell’s declaration, Veridia University—a campus normally suffused with a scholarly air—was now brimming with a murderous intensity.

At Sheldon Caldwell’s command, the sounds of battle and pained cries instantly erupted across the wide training field.

He stood on a raised platform, watching the students below who had been like lambs just a minute ago but now showed a bit of fighting spirit. In truth, he was still not very satisfied. Compared to his teammates, these students were lacking by more than just a little. But they were students, after all, not soldiers from his company, so he had to make do.

The rules of the match were simple: whoever knocked their opponent to the ground won.

After a round of matches, the winners stood at the front, and the losers stood at the back.

Fifteen students from each company were victorious in the first round. After a ten-minute break, the second round began. Because there was an odd number of winners, one student would get a bye to the next round, decided by drawing lots.

The students objected to this, saying it was all down to luck and wasn’t fair.

Sheldon Caldwell once again silenced all the students with a single statement: "Sometimes, luck is a component of skill. Anyone who objects can forfeit and run ten laps."

The lots were drawn, and Vera Xavier’s luck was good—she drew the bye. And so, she watched with great interest as the girls in her company competed in the second round.

In reality, the students hadn’t been in military training for very long; they hadn’t even had time to learn military fighting techniques. This kind of brawl depended entirely on raw ferocity and momentum.

When the second round ended, she was surprised to find that all of her roommates had advanced.

After another ten-minute break, the third round of matches began. This time, there were only eight people left.
