Chapter 238: A Cursed Spirit
Chapter 238: 238: A Cursed Spirit
Simon was taken aback for a moment when he saw Merath and Jorra approach him, but he recalled that Merath said that they wanted to talk to him about something.
’I wonder what it is.’ Simon was curious.
Some seconds later, Merath and Jorra stood in front of Simon.
Simon glanced at both of them and subtly observed their gazes.
’Jorra’s gaze is cold as usual, but it seems to be colder this time around. Merath has a complicated expression.’
’Hmm… It seems this conversation might be more serious than I expected.’
“We heard that you were arrested.”
Merath suddenly broke the silence.
Simon nodded calmly. “Yeah. I’m guessing nearly everybody knows about it now.”
Merath nodded slightly. “Yeah. Everybody in the class has been talking about it ever since, and they’re also calling you a murderer.”
Simon indifferently raised a brow. “A murderer? Just because I was a suspect in a murder case, they believe that I’m a murderer?”
Merath could hear the amusement in Simon’s voice, and she could understand why he felt amused at the fact that their classmates were calling him a murderer just because he was arrested for a few hours.
She also felt the same.
“You’re not bothered about them calling you a murderer?”
Although she was also amused at their classmates for calling Simon a murderer, she wanted to know about how Simon felt about it.
A second after she asked the question, Simon indifferently shrugged.
“And why would it bother me? To be spat at and called a slave or to be scorned and called a murderer. What’s the difference?”
Simon’s lips could not help but curl into a smile, and his eyes shined with a dark light.
“They might not fear a slave, but if they believe that I’m a murderer, then they’ll fear me or at the very least, they’ll be wary of me.”
“I guess it’s not so bad to be called a murderer.”
Merath and Jorra stared at Simon with both having different thoughts about Simon’s words.
Meanwhile, Lilith chuckled softly. “You know, I’m very curious to know what seed of sin you’ll develop in the future.”
Simon was instantly confused.
’A seed of sin? What’s a seed of sin?’
Although he had the urge to ask Lilith this question, he knew that this was not the time.
“What did you want to talk about by the way? I’m sure you’re not here just for that.”
Merath and Jorra looked at one another, then Jorra nodded at Merath.
Merath sighed, and Simon narrowed his eyes slightly.
Her gaze became solemn, then she asked.
“Did you kill Thorgan?”
Simon was instantly baffled. “Why are you asking me that? Of course, I-”
“Stop talking!”
Lilith suddenly shouted, nearly causing Simon to jump off the bench.
“WHAT THE HELL?!”
Simon glared at Lilith with an expression filled with anger. His behavior was strange to Jorra and Merath, but Simon could not control himself.
He nearly had a heart attack!
“Calm yourself, mortal.” Lilith said calmly, not caring about Simon’s outburst.
It did not take Simon more than three seconds to reel in his anger, however, he still had a deep frown.
“Explain yourself.”
Simon turned and calmly shifted his gaze back to Merath and Jorra. Despite their strange stares at him, he didn’t bother to explain himself.
Lilith had an intrigued light in her eyes as she stared not at Merath, but at Jorra.
“I’ll lend you my sight.”
She held Simon’s right shoulder, and Simon felt an energy enter his body then it flowed into his eyes.
He felt a little bit uncomfortable, but in the next moment, Simon’s eyes widened as he could see what Lilith was seeing.
Standing beside Jorra was a thin, hunched creature that was about the size of a child. It was wrapped in long grey robes that dragged along the ground.
If had no ears or nose.
Its mouth was stretched from one side of its face to the other, and instead of normal teeth, its mouth was filled with hundreds of tiny needle-like teeth.
One might think that this was the strangest feature of this creature, but it was not. The strangest feature was its tongue.
Its tongue was long and it forked into several thin strands, like the roots of a plant. These strands constantly twitched in the air as if it was tasting invisible particles.
Its eyes were completely white and cloudy, making it look blind.
“What in the world is that?”
Simon was utterly baffled.
He had never seen such a creature before.
“That’s a Lie Eater.”
“A what?” Simon frowned deeply.
Lilith decided to explain.
“A Lie Eater is a Cursed Spirit that has the ability to tell when somebody is lying. The Lie Eater does not listen to words. Instead, its tongue tastes the air around it.”
“Whenever someone lies, their words produces a subtle distortion in spiritual energy. The Lie-Eater can detect this instantly.”
“And when it senses a lie, its tongue would snap toward the speaker and emit a harsh clicking sound.”
“It would then whisper the word- “False.”
“If someone tells repeated lies near it, the creature becomes excited and aggressive, because lies are like food to it.”
Simon narrowed his eyes with a thoughtful expression when he heard Lilith’s words.
This was the first time hearing of a Lie Eater.
’What sort of a demon is it? Wait. Lilith called it a Cursed Spirit. What’s a Cursed Spirit? I’ve never heard of that before.’
Simon decided to ask.
“What’s a Cursed Spirit?”
“Hmm.” Lilith hummed softly. “That’s a long topic, but I can tell you something that’s even more interesting.”
Simon raised a brow. “What?”
“That girl is a Daemon.”
Simon’s eyes widened slightly. “What?”
“And that child controlling the cursed spirit is also a Daemon who is related to the Soul Daemon… If you can kill him with the Chaos Blade, I’ll give you the location of the dragon’s lair without hesitation.”
“…” Simon had a surprised expression behind his mask.
