Chapter 166 Absolute Defense!
“It seems like some big fish are fighting.” Richard said as he stopped on a rooftop to look ahead of them. His mother, Moria, Leon, and Nedra, also stopped beside him, listening to what he had to say.
“A rank fighters?” Leon asked with a complicated expression. He did not think anything other than A rank fighters would have Richard worried.
“At least one A rank on either side. But don’t worry, I can take care of them if need be.” He turned to his mother. “Mother, stay beside Leon. He can protect you if I’m not there.” He said with a concerned tone.
“Alright.” Moria nodded her head and turned to look at Leon. “My safety is in your hands.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll protect you.” Leon nodded solemnly and Nedra nodded beside him.
After that, they set off again. It did not take long for them to reach the city’s walls where the battle was taking place. Immediately, they were able to spot the stars of the battle. A white haired young man in blue battle robes, and a knightly woman with blonde hair.
“Oi! Gus, need a hand?!” The moment Richard touched down on the wall, he called out for Gustavo like a mad man. The two of them had some dealings in the past, so he was on a first name basis with Gustavo.
“You will be duly rewarded, Richard!” Gustavo yelled back as he defended against Amelia. She was the stronger of the two, but the defensive formations that he had accumulated around the city gave him a strong home ground advantage against her that allowed him to match her on even footing.
Gustavo was primarily a defensive mage, but that did not mean he did not know any offensive spells. Every mage had started up with a rounded spell base. Although he did not expand his collection of offensive spells like he did for his defensive spells, he still had a few tricks up his sleeve.
“Hup! Boulder Rush!” Gustavo jumped down onto the ground below and slammed the butt of his staff into the ground. The motion was pointless as he did not need to jump, but he felt it made his spell more effective, so he did it anyway.
Five massive boulders the size of an average bungalow rose up from the ground and shot forward with alarming speed. Amelia’s eyes shot open wide in surprise, as she had not expected the white haired man to come down from the walls up high. He leapt to the side, wrapped up by a boosting light that increased her speed. Then she waved her sword to obliterate the boulders into nothing so that it would not harm her army.
“Attack the city!” She yelled at the top of her lungs. She had not been expecting Gustavo to be able to hold her at bay so well, so she needed to put her troops to work. They were not for show, after all.
The army of five thousand that had surrounded Fort Bender immediately sprung to action. The warriors, which consisted of a fourth of the army, rushed forward, with their weapons drawn, while the mages stood at the back to provide ranged bombardment. The weakest members of the army were C ranked, so the amount of damage they could deal at a time was enormous!
Even still, what the C rankers could do to Gustavo’s shields was still measly in comparison. What truly matters was the amount of damage that the B rankers could do. The B rankers only amounted to about a thousand, but even still, that was enough to cause Gustavo’s shields to tremble and waver as they were put under greater stress over time. The shield would obviously not collapse immediately, but over time, the attacks would begin to stress Gustavo when he was in the middle of a fight with Amelia.
“Defend Fort Bender!” Gustavo commanded his own men to attack with all their might as his battle against Amelia heated up even further.
It was at this point that Richard jumped into the fray.
Whoosh!
Amelia saw a silver light flash from the corner of her eye, and she ducked back just in time to dodge a vicious swipe of Richard’s silver claws. The man had transformed into his true form, which had earned him his moniker, and jumped into battle to flip the board on its head.
“Silver Tooth! Stand down and you will avoid making the Empire of Light your enemy!” She threw in the weight of the power that backed her in the hopes that Richard would back off because she knew that he was bad news.
“I’m afraid I am already under the employ of Sir Darion here. I cannot turn my back on a client that has already hired me. Or else, what would that make people think of my guild?” Richard paused for a moment and grinned. The grin that always looked goofy on his human face now looked terrifying on his Werewolf face. The way it warped his face and made him look ten times more monstrous made shivers run down Amelia’s back.
“Fine, then! Do not blame me for killing you!” Amelia resolved her heart and held up her sword once more. A bright, white light glowed around her and spread, as white wings spread behind her. She was expanding her Domain!
“Richard! You focus on attacking while I handle defense!” Gustavo clapped his hands together and also activated his Domain. A blue barrier suddenly welled out from within him, spreading all around Fort Bender and spreading out over two hundred meters around it in all directions. Within this Domain, all attacks that were aimed at the defenders of the fort and the fort itself were either cancelled out, or weakened considerably. If any attacks were casted from outside this barrier, then they would be blocked out as long as they were not powerful enough to breach it.
He called this Domain the Absolute Defense!
