The BL System Won't Let Me Rest!
Chapter 41: Beyond the World Gate
Rin woke before dawn.
Again.
At this point, he was beginning to suspect that sleep simply didn’t like him. He stared at the ceiling for several seconds before remembering where he was.
The Moon Forest. His mother’s house. Sol. The strange voice. The glowing threads. And the words that still echoed in his mind.
My sons.
Rin sat up. His heart began beating faster. He had heard it. Sol had heard it too.
That meant it wasn’t a dream. Their father was alive.
Somewhere. Beyond the World Gate.
Rin pushed the blankets aside and stood. The house was silent.
He quietly opened the door and stepped outside and the forest looked different in the early morning.
Silver mist covered the ground. The trees seemed almost transparent beneath the pale light.
Rin walked toward the place where he had seen the glowing threads. Nothing remained.
He sighed.
"Of course."
A voice came from behind him.
"Looking for something?"
Rin turned.
Noctis stood several steps away.
His long silver hair fell over his shoulders, catching the first light of morning.
Rin smiled faintly.
"You’re awake."
"I didn’t sleep."
"Why?"
Noctis shrugged.
"Too many things to think about."
Rin nodded.
"Same."
Noctis walked closer.
"You heard him."
Rin looked toward the sky.
"Yes."
"You believe it was your father?"
"I don’t know."
Noctis was quiet.
Then:
"You do."
Rin looked at him.
"Maybe."
Noctis smiled faintly.
"You always say ’maybe’ when you’re afraid to admit you want something to be true."
Rin stared.
"Since when are you good at reading me?"
"I’ve had practice."
The answer was simple.
But Rin didn’t miss the meaning behind it.
Noctis had watched him across countless timelines.
He knew things about Rin that Rin himself didn’t know.
Yet somehow, Noctis never used that knowledge to force anything from him.
Rin appreciated that.
"Thank you."
Noctis looked confused.
"For what?"
"For not expecting me to remember everything."
Noctis’s expression softened.
"You don’t owe me memories."
Rin smiled.
"Good."
A second voice came from behind them.
"You two are awake early."
Kaelith approached.
Rin looked at him.
"You too?"
"I heard movement."
Noctis raised an eyebrow.
"You always hear movement."
"That is why I’m General."
Rin sighed.
"Right."
Kaelith looked toward the forest.
"What happened?"
Rin hesitated.
"Nothing."
Kaelith studied him.
"That usually means something happened."
Rin sighed.
"We heard our father."
Kaelith immediately became serious.
"The voice?"
Rin nodded.
"Yes."
"Did you identify him?"
"No."
Noctis looked toward the trees.
"But he identified us."
Kaelith’s hand rested near his sword.
"Then we’re no longer searching for him."
Rin frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Kaelith looked at him.
"If he can reach you from beyond this world..."
He paused.
"...then perhaps he is the one who has been searching for you."
Rin stared.
That possibility had never occurred to him.
Noctis’s expression darkened.
"Which means someone else might be searching too."
"The God."
Kaelith nodded.
Rin looked toward the mountains.
"Then we need to find the World Gate."
Inside the house, Seraphine was waiting.
She seemed to know exactly what they were going to ask.
"The World Gate."
Rin nodded.
"Yes."
She sighed.
"I knew this day would come."
Sol stood beside Rin.
"You knew we’d find it."
"I knew you would eventually."
"Then tell us where it is."
Seraphine looked at him.
"You cannot simply walk there."
"Why?"
"Because the World Gate isn’t a place."
Rin frowned.
"What?"
"It is a boundary."
She stood and walked toward a bookshelf.
"Between worlds, there are places where reality becomes thin."
She removed an old book.
"The World Gate is one of those places."
She opened it.
The pages were filled with symbols.
Rin recognized one.
The three interlocking circles.
The same symbol from the pendant.
He pointed.
"That’s it."
Seraphine nodded.
"Yes."
Sol stepped closer.
"What does it mean?"
"It represents three things."
"What?"
"Birth."
She turned the page.
"Death."
Another page.
"And return."
Rin’s expression changed.
"Return?"
Seraphine nodded.
"Your father believed that every soul should have the right to return to where it belonged."
Rin frowned.
"Then why didn’t mine?"
Her hand stopped.
"Because someone interfered."
The room became quiet.
"The God."
"Yes."
Rin looked at the symbol.
"So the World Gate can take me back?"
Seraphine shook her head.
"No."
"Why?"
"Because you don’t know where you came from."
Rin stared.
"What?"
"You remember that you were a god."
"Yes."
"You know you came from another world."
"Yes."
"But you don’t remember which world."
Rin slowly understood.
"The World Gate needs a destination."
"Exactly."
Sol looked at the book.
"Then how do we find it?"
Seraphine closed it.
"We don’t."
Rin frowned.
"Then what do we do?"
"We let the Gate find you."
Everyone went silent.
Noctis looked at her.
"How?"
Seraphine looked directly at Rin.
"By awakening the part of you that belongs to that world."
Rin’s stomach tightened.
"My divine power."
"Yes."
Kaelith frowned.
"Is that safe?"
"No."
Rin sighed.
"Of course."
Seraphine looked at him.
"It could be dangerous."
"How dangerous?"
"You might remember something you aren’t ready to remember."
Rin thought about the fragments.
His first world.
Eryon.
The divine temple.
The people calling him their god.
And the blank space where his death should have been.
"I want to know."
Seraphine looked into his eyes.
"Even if you discover something you cannot forget?"
Rin nodded.
"Yes."
She closed her eyes.
"Then we begin tonight."
The ritual took place at the center of the Moon Forest.
Seraphine drew the three-circle symbol into the snow.
Sol stood beside her.
Rin stood in the center.
Noctis and Kaelith remained outside the circle.
Neither complained.
Neither tried to interfere.
They simply watched.
Rin appreciated that.
Seraphine placed her hands together.
"Your power won’t awaken because you demand it."
Rin nodded.
"Then how?"
"You need to remember what it felt like to be yourself."
Rin frowned.
"I don’t know who I was."
"Exactly."
She closed her eyes.
"Don’t search for memories."
"What should I search for?"
"Nothing."
Rin blinked.
"Nothing?"
"Let the memories find you."
Sol stepped closer.
"Mother."
She looked at him.
"What?"
"Are you sure?"
"No."
Sol frowned.
"You just said—"
"I said I know what needs to happen."
She smiled sadly.
"I never said I wasn’t afraid."
Sol looked down.
Rin reached over and squeezed his shoulder.
"Stay with me."
Sol smiled.
"Always."
Seraphine began speaking in an ancient language.
The symbols beneath Rin’s feet began to glow.
The air became warmer.
Then—
Nothing happened.
Rin waited.
One second.
Two.
Ten.
He looked at his mother.
"Is this supposed to—"
"Be patient."
"I hate that word."
Sol laughed.
Then the world disappeared.
Rin opened his eyes.
He was standing somewhere else.
A vast white plain stretched before him.
There was no sky.
No ground.
Only light.
Rin looked around.
"Hello?"
No answer.
He walked forward.
With every step, the environment changed.
A forest.
A city.
An ocean.
A battlefield.
A temple.
Different worlds.
Different lives.
Different versions of himself.
Some were human.
Some were demons.
Some were creatures he didn’t recognize.
And some...
were gods.
Rin stopped.
One version stood in front of him.
He was dressed in white.
His hair was longer.
His eyes were bright.
Light surrounded him.
Rin stared.
"That’s me."
The divine version smiled.
"Yes."
Rin stepped closer.
"Who are you?"
The figure looked amused.
"You know."
"I don’t."
"Not yet."
Rin frowned.
"Everyone keeps saying that."
The divine Rin laughed.
"You’ve always hated waiting."
Rin stared.
"Who were you?"
The figure’s expression became gentle.
"I was you."
"Before?"
"Before this."
Rin looked at him.
"What was my name?"
The figure opened his mouth.
But before he could answer—
The entire world shook.
A golden crack appeared across the sky.
Rin immediately recognized it.
The God.
"No."
The divine version of Rin looked toward the crack.
"You shouldn’t be here."
The God appeared.
"Neither should you."
Rin stepped forward.
"Who are you?"
The God looked at him.
"Someone who remembers your death."
Rin froze.
The divine version stepped in front of him.
"You don’t get to tell him."
The God smiled.
"Still protecting him?"
"Always."
The golden light intensified.
Rin heard another voice.
Eryon.
"Run."
The divine Rin turned.
"Eryon?"
"Now."
"But—"
"Rin!"
The world shattered.
Rin fell.
He reached for something.
Someone caught his hand.
A familiar hand.
Small.
Warm.
Sol.
"Brother!"
Rin opened his eyes.
He was back in the forest.
Sol was holding his hand.
Rin gasped.
The symbols around them had shattered.
Seraphine was kneeling nearby.
Noctis and Kaelith had both drawn their weapons.
"What happened?"
Seraphine looked at Rin.
"You awakened it."
Rin looked at his hands.
Light was flowing through his fingers.
Not golden.
Not blue.
Silver.
Soft silver light.
The trees around him began glowing.
Then the ground opened.
Not physically.
A doorway appeared in the air.
A circular opening.
Beyond it...
Stars.
Thousands of them.
An entire world visible through the opening.
Rin stared.
"I know that place."
Seraphine stood slowly.
"Do you?"
Rin nodded.
"I don’t know why."
Noctis stepped closer.
"What do you see?"
Rin whispered:
"A city."
The image became clearer.
A white city floating among clouds.
A massive temple in the distance.
Rin’s breath caught.
"I’ve been there."
Seraphine looked at him.
"Your original world."
Rin stared through the gate.
For a moment, he could almost hear voices.
People calling his name.
A name he couldn’t fully understand.
Ael—
The sound vanished.
The Gate flickered.
Then a second presence appeared.
A shadow stood on the other side.
Rin froze.
A man.
Long dark hair.
Silver streaks.
A silver ring.
The mysterious father.
Rin couldn’t see his face clearly.
But he knew.
"Father."
The man looked at him.
For a moment, neither moved.
Then the man smiled.
Not proudly.
Not dramatically.
Like someone seeing his children after far too long.
"My sons."
Sol stepped forward.
"Father."
The man’s expression broke.
He raised his hand toward them.
But the Gate began closing.
"No!"
Rin rushed forward.
The man suddenly became serious.
"Don’t cross."
Rin stopped.
"Why?"
"Because it isn’t safe."
"What happened to you?"
"I’ll explain."
"When?"
"Not yet."
Rin groaned.
"Seriously?"
A faint smile appeared on the man’s face.
"You haven’t changed."
Rin stared.
"Do I know you?"
The man’s eyes softened.
"Not yet."
Rin almost laughed.
"Everyone says that!"
The man looked at Sol.
"Protect your brother."
Sol nodded.
"I will."
The Gate began collapsing.
The man’s expression changed.
"Listen carefully."
Rin stepped closer.
The man’s voice became urgent.
"Do not trust the God."
Rin frowned.
"That part isn’t new."
"No."
The man shook his head.
"You don’t understand."
He looked directly at Rin.
"The God isn’t the one who started the curse."
Rin froze.
"We know."
"No."
The man’s voice was serious.
"You know he didn’t create it."
He looked toward the darkness behind him.
"But you don’t know who did."
The Gate trembled.
Something was approaching from the other side.
The man’s eyes widened.
"He’s found you."
Rin’s heart stopped.
"Who?"
The man looked behind him.
Then back toward Rin.
"Run."
The Gate exploded with light.
Rin was thrown backward.
Kaelith caught him.
Noctis raised a barrier.
Sol shouted.
"Close it!"
Seraphine raised both hands.
The World Gate began collapsing.
But before it disappeared completely...
A hand reached through.
Not the father’s.
Something else.
Long black fingers wrapped around the edge of the Gate.
A voice whispered:
"Found you."
Rin’s blood turned cold.
Seraphine screamed:
"Seal it!"
Sol’s System erupted with blue light.
[WORLD AUTHORITY: RELEASED.]
The entire forest shook.
Kaelith’s demonic power exploded outward.
Noctis summoned a wall of dark flames.
Rin felt something awaken inside his chest.
Not anger.
Not fear.
Something older.
The silver light around him intensified.
A single word escaped his lips.
Not Rin.
Not Ael.
Something else.
A fragment of the name he had forgotten.
The creature on the other side stopped.
For one second...
it seemed afraid.
Then the Gate closed.
Silence.
Rin fell to his knees.
Sol immediately rushed toward him.
"Rin!"
"I’m okay."
"Are you sure?"
Rin nodded.
Then he looked at his hands.
The silver light was gone.
But something remained.
A symbol.
Three interlocking circles.
Burned faintly into his palm.
Seraphine stared at it.
Her face became pale.
"That’s impossible."
Rin looked at her.
"What?"
She whispered:
"That’s not your divine mark."
Rin’s heart sank.
"Then whose is it?"
Seraphine didn’t answer.
Behind them, Eryon’s voice came from the darkness.
"His."
Everyone turned.
Eryon stepped out between the silver trees.
His expression was unusually serious.
Rin looked at him.
"Whose?"
Eryon stared at the symbol on Rin’s hand.
"The one who created the curse."
Silence.
Rin slowly closed his fingers.
"You know who it is."
Eryon looked toward the sky.
"Yes."
"Who?"
Eryon didn’t answer.
Instead, he looked at Sol.
Then Kaelith.
Then Noctis.
Finally, he looked back at Rin.
"And now..."
His expression became grim.
"...they know you remember enough to find them."
The silver forest went completely silent.
And somewhere beyond the World Gate...
something began to laugh.
