The BL System Won't Let Me Rest!
Chapter 40: The Man Beyond the World
For a while, nobody moved.
The forest remained strangely quiet around them. Rin stood beside Sol, staring at the three System windows floating in the air.
[FATHER — STATUS: UNKNOWN.]
[LOCATION: UNKNOWN.]
[IDENTITY: SEALED.]
The words remained there for several seconds. Then the first window flickered.
[ATTEMPTING CONNECTION...]
Sol’s expression changed.
"That’s impossible."
Rin looked at him.
"What?"
"I didn’t do that."
The second window appeared.
[CONNECTION ESTABLISHED.]
A cold sensation passed through the clearing. Kaelith immediately reached for his sword.
Noctis’s eyes darkened. Seraphine went completely still. Rin looked at his brother.
"Sol?"
"I don’t know what’s happening."
The System screen trembled. Then a fourth line appeared.
[EXTERNAL ENTITY DETECTED.]
[WARNING.]
[ENTITY EXISTS OUTSIDE CURRENT WORLD.]
Rin swallowed.
"That’s him."
Seraphine whispered:
"No."
Everyone turned toward her. She looked terrified.
"Mother?" Sol asked.
Seraphine took one step backward.
"You have to close it."
Sol stared at the screen.
"I don’t know how."
"Sol!"
"I said I don’t know!"
The screen flashed. For the first time since Rin had known him, Sol looked genuinely frightened. The System wasn’t obeying him. That had never happened before.
Rin stepped closer.
"Sol."
"Don’t touch it."
"Why?"
"Because I don’t know what’s on the other side."
Rin looked at the glowing window.
"Maybe we should find out."
"No."
Seraphine’s voice was sharp. Everyone looked at her. She took a breath.
"Not here."
Rin frowned.
"Why?"
"Because if he is contacting you..."
She looked at Sol.
"...then the God may already know."
The screen suddenly went black. Silence returned. Then a single sentence appeared.
[DO NOT FEAR.]
Rin stared. Another line appeared beneath it.
[I HAVE BEEN WAITING.]
Sol stepped backward.
"No."
Rin looked at him.
"You know this?"
"No."
"Then why are you afraid?"
Sol’s eyes remained fixed on the screen.
"Because I’ve seen those words before."
"When?"
"Every time you died."
Rin’s breath caught.
"What?"
Sol slowly looked at him.
"Sometimes... after you died, when the System was restarting..."
He swallowed.
"I would see a message."
"What message?"
Sol’s voice became quieter.
"Do not lose him again."
Rin stared.
"You never told me."
"I didn’t know who was sending it."
"Did you think it was the World?"
"I thought so."
"And now?"
Sol looked at the screen.
"Now I don’t."
The message disappeared. A new one replaced it.
[RIN.]
Rin’s heart stopped. Not Host. Not System. His name. Just Rin.
The next message appeared slowly.
[MY CHILD.]
Rin froze. The forest seemed to disappear. The same words. The same voice.
The mysterious presence that had once called him that. Only this time, the voice wasn’t coming from the trees.
It was coming from the System.
"Who are you?"
The screen remained silent. Then:
[NOT YET.]
Rin frowned.
"You’re the one who called me your child."
[YES.]
"Then tell me who you are."
[NOT YET.]
Rin clenched his fists.
"Why does everyone keep saying that?"
No answer. Rin stepped closer.
"Why can’t anyone just tell me the truth?"
The screen flickered. Then another message appeared.
[BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT READY TO CARRY IT.]
Rin laughed bitterly.
"Apparently I’m never ready."
Sol moved beside him.
"Stop."
Rin looked at him. Sol shook his head.
"Don’t push it."
"Why?"
"Because whatever is on the other side isn’t trying to hurt you."
Rin stared at him.
"You can tell?"
Sol nodded slowly.
"I can feel it."
"How?"
"I’m the System."
He looked at his hands.
"But that’s not all."
A faint blue glow appeared beneath his skin. Rin’s expression changed.
"Sol."
"I’ve never shown you this."
"What is that?"
"I don’t know."
The glow spread from Sol’s palm toward his wrist. Seraphine whispered:
"World Authority."
Sol looked at her.
"You know what this is?"
She nodded.
"It was supposed to awaken eventually."
"Then why didn’t you tell me?"
"Because I hoped you would never need it."
Sol looked at Rin.
"Apparently that wasn’t an option."
The blue light intensified. The System windows changed.
[WORLD AUTHORITY: AWAKENING.]
[SYSTEM FORM: UNSTABLE.]
[ORIGINAL CORE: RECONNECTING.]
Rin stared.
"What does original core mean?"
Seraphine looked away. Sol answered instead.
"The part of me that existed before I became the System."
Rin’s eyes widened.
"You had another form?"
"Yes."
"What was it?"
Sol shook his head.
"I don’t remember."
A voice suddenly echoed through the forest.
"You weren’t supposed to."
Everyone froze. It wasn’t coming from the System. It wasn’t coming from the house.
It came from everywhere. The trees. The ground. The sky.
The voice was calm. Almost gentle. Rin looked around.
"Who’s there?"
No answer.
Then the voice spoke again.
"Not yet."
Rin’s eyes narrowed.
"You."
A soft laugh.
"I’ve been watching you for a very long time."
Noctis summoned dark energy. Kaelith stepped in front of Rin.
"Show yourself."
The voice ignored him.
"Kaelith."
The General froze. The voice continued.
"Son of the Ashen Bloodline. General of the Demon Realm. The one who has already died nine times protecting him."
Kaelith’s expression hardened. Noctis stepped forward.
"Enough."
The voice laughed quietly.
"And Noctis."
Noctis went still.
"Prince of a kingdom that no longer exists."
His silver hair moved in the wind.
"You have carried memories that were never meant to survive."
Noctis’s hand tightened.
"Who are you?"
"Someone who remembers."
Noctis’s eyes narrowed.
"Remember what?"
The answer came softly.
"Everything."
Rin felt a chill.
The voice turned toward him.
"And you..."
The forest became completely silent.
"You have forgotten the most."
Rin swallowed.
"Then help me remember."
"No."
Rin’s frustration returned.
"Why?"
"Because remembering is not the same as understanding."
"Then explain."
"Not yet."
Rin groaned.
"Of course."
For the first time, the voice sounded amused.
"You haven’t changed."
Rin froze.
"What?"
"You were impatient then too."
"Then?"
"Before this world."
Rin’s heart began beating faster.
"You knew me?"
"Yes."
"Where?"
"Somewhere that no longer exists."
Rin’s breath caught.
"My world?"
"One of them."
Rin stared.
"One of them?"
The voice didn’t answer. Instead, the System screen appeared again.
[WARNING.]
[MEMORY RESONANCE DETECTED.]
Rin’s vision blurred. For a moment, he saw another world. A vast blue sky. Floating islands.
A city built from white stone. People laughing. Children running. And himself.
Not as Rin. As something else. He stood on a high balcony, wearing white robes.
A golden symbol rested against his chest. He was smiling.
Someone stood beside him. Eryon. Younger. Laughing.
"You’ll regret this."
Rin heard his own voice.
"I always regret listening to you."
"Yet you always do."
"Because you’re my brother."
Eryon smiled.
"Exactly."
The vision shifted.
A woman. Not Seraphine. Someone else. She knelt before Rin.
"Your Grace."
Rin raised a hand.
"Don’t."
The woman looked confused.
"I am not your king."
"You are our God."
Rin smiled.
"Then let me be a God who listens."
The memory shattered. Rin stumbled. Kaelith caught him.
"Rin."
"I’m okay."
"You aren’t."
"I saw something."
Noctis stepped closer.
"What?"
Rin looked at him.
"Another world."
Noctis’s expression softened.
"Your original world?"
"I don’t know."
He looked toward the System.
"Maybe."
Sol stood silently. His eyes were glowing. Rin noticed.
"Sol?"
Sol didn’t respond.
"Sol."
The younger man finally looked at him.
"I heard something."
"What?"
Sol swallowed.
"Someone calling me."
"Who?"
"I don’t know."
He closed his eyes.
Then suddenly—
A voice whispered directly into his mind.
"Little star."
Sol’s eyes widened.
His breathing stopped. Rin grabbed his shoulder.
"Sol?"
The younger man looked terrified.
"That name..."
"What name?"
"Little star."
Seraphine’s face went white. Rin looked at her.
"You know it."
She said nothing.
"Mom."
Her eyes filled with tears.
"That was what your father called him."
Sol froze. For several seconds, he simply stared at her.
"He called me that?"
"Yes."
Sol looked down.
"Why don’t I remember?"
"Because the memories were sealed."
"By him?"
Seraphine shook her head.
"No."
"Then who?"
"The World."
Sol’s expression hardened.
"Why?"
"Because your father knew that if you remembered him too soon, you would try to find him."
Sol laughed bitterly.
"Of course I would."
"And that’s exactly why."
Sol looked toward the forest.
"Where is he?"
Seraphine didn’t answer.
"Mother."
"I don’t know."
"You said he moves between worlds."
"Yes."
"Then you know where he was last."
She hesitated.
"Yes."
Rin stepped closer.
"Where?"
Seraphine looked at him.
"Beyond the World Gate."
Noctis frowned.
"The World Gate?"
Kaelith’s expression changed.
"That place is a myth."
"No."
Seraphine shook her head.
"It exists."
Rin looked between them.
"What is it?"
"The place between worlds."
Seraphine’s voice became quiet.
"A boundary that only a handful of beings can cross."
"Gods?"
"Some."
"Demons?"
"Very few."
"Humans?"
"No."
Rin looked at Sol.
"And our father?"
"He could."
Silence. Rin suddenly understood something.
"That’s why the God couldn’t find him."
Seraphine nodded.
"He could hide outside this world’s laws."
"And you?"
"I couldn’t follow."
"Why?"
"Because I’m bound to this world."
Rin frowned.
"But you’re a descendant of the Goddess of Time."
Seraphine smiled sadly.
"Being connected to Time doesn’t mean I control it."
Rin remembered the strange visions. His mother’s knowledge of the future. Her ability to recognize things before they happened.
"You can see the future."
"Fragments."
"How far?"
"Sometimes minutes."
"Sometimes years."
Rin looked at her.
"And sometimes..."
"Yes."
She looked toward him.
"I see things that haven’t happened yet."
Rin swallowed.
"Have you seen my future?"
Seraphine’s expression became painful.
"Yes."
"What happens?"
"I can’t tell you."
"Why?"
"Because the future changes when it is spoken."
Rin sighed.
"Another secret."
"Another protection."
He smiled faintly.
"Same thing."
Seraphine reached for his hand.
"I’m sorry."
Rin squeezed her fingers.
"I know."
That night, they stayed awake. Nobody wanted to sleep. Not after the message. Not after the memories.
Not after discovering that Sol’s original power was beginning to awaken. Eventually, Rin found Sol sitting outside.
The moon was high above the forest. Rin sat beside him.
"You okay?"
Sol nodded.
"Mostly."
"Thinking about Dad?"
"Yes."
Rin smiled.
"Me too."
Sol looked at him.
"Do you think he knows about us?"
"I think so."
"Do you think he knows we’re alive?"
Rin looked at the stars.
"I hope."
Sol was quiet.
Then:
"Do you think he abandoned us?"
Rin immediately shook his head.
"No."
"You answered too quickly."
"Because I don’t believe it."
"Why?"
Rin thought about it.
"Because Mom still wears his pendant."
Sol looked down.
"That’s your proof?"
"Partly."
"And the rest?"
Rin smiled.
"She still loves him."
Sol looked away.
"That’s enough for me."
They sat together. No missions. No System. No divine threats. Just two brothers beneath the moon.
Then Rin felt something.
A thread. A glowing thread appeared in the darkness. It stretched upward.
Beyond the trees. Beyond the sky. Beyond the world itself.
Rin stared.
"Sol."
"What?"
"I can see something."
Sol followed his gaze. His eyes widened.
"What is that?"
"I don’t know."
The thread pulsed.
Once.
Twice.
Then a second thread appeared.
Connected to the first. Rin reached toward it.
The moment his fingers touched the light—
A voice whispered.
Not the God. Not the World. Not Eryon.
A voice he had never heard before.
"My sons."
Rin froze.
Sol stopped breathing. The thread vanished. Neither spoke.
Finally Sol whispered:
"Did you hear that?"
Rin nodded.
"Yes."
"Who was it?"
Rin looked toward the sky. He didn’t know. But for the first time... he was certain of one thing.
Their father was alive.
And somewhere beyond the boundaries of their world... he had finally realized that his sons were beginning to remember him.
Far away, beyond the World Gate, a man stood alone beneath an unfamiliar sky.
He had long dark hair streaked with silver.
A simple black coat covered his shoulders. On his finger was a silver ring. The same symbol appeared on its surface.
Three interlocking circles. He opened his eyes.
For the first time in centuries, they were filled with something other than patience.
Fear. He looked toward the distant light.
"They heard me."
A second figure stood behind him. Eryon. His expression was unusually serious.
"You knew this would happen."
The man nodded.
"Yes."
"Then why did you let them?"
The man looked toward the impossible horizon.
"Because they deserve to know."
Eryon stepped closer.
"And the God?"
The man’s expression became cold.
"He will come."
"And the World?"
"The World already knows."
Eryon frowned.
"Then what are you going to do?"
The man looked toward the place where Rin’s world existed beyond the darkness.
"Nothing."
Eryon stared at him.
"Nothing?"
"Not yet."
A faint smile appeared.
"They need to choose their own path."
Eryon looked away.
"You’re still doing this."
"Doing what?"
"Trusting them."
The man smiled.
"They are my sons."
He looked down at the silver ring.
"And one of them..."
His expression changed.
"...was once powerful enough to make the Gods afraid."
The darkness around him trembled.
"But this time, I won’t interfere."
Eryon raised an eyebrow.
"Not even if the God attacks?"
The man’s eyes became ancient.
"That is different."
"How?"
He looked toward the distant world.
"If the God touches my sons..."
The air itself seemed to bend.
"...then I will remember why I was once feared."
And somewhere in the forest, Rin suddenly shivered.
He didn’t know why. He only knew that, for the first time since beginning this impossible journey... the feeling wasn’t fear.
It was the strange certainty that someone, somewhere beyond the stars, was watching over them.
Not controlling them. Not choosing for them.
Just waiting.
And for now... that was enough.
