Chapter 184: We Need To Talk!
Chapter 184: We Need To Talk!
"Sorry for making you wait."
The familiar voice immediately pulled Sienna out of her thoughts.
Sienna looked up and found Zachary walking toward her.
"It’s fine. I actually enjoyed watching you look terrified while Sky looked utterly happy."
Zachary laughed.
Without hesitation, he stepped closer and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"I wasn’t terrified," he whispered near her ear. "I just don’t enjoy those kinds of rides."
As he pulled her closer, Sienna’s smile faltered slightly. The pressure against her injured arm sent a sharp ache through her body.
She tried her best to hide it and remained silent, unwilling to ruin the mood.
Unfortunately, someone noticed immediately.
Skylar hurried over and looked at his father with disapproval.
"Daddy, stop hugging Mommy." He pointed at Sienna’s injured arm. "You’re squeezing her injured arm."
The words instantly wiped the amusement from Zachary’s face. He released his embrace and looked her in the eyes.
Zachary studied her arm for a moment before looking up at her face, concern clearly visible in his eyes.
"Are you hurt?" he asked softly.
Sienna couldn’t help feeling slightly amused. She had spent hours preparing different ways to tell him about her injury. Still, in the end, Skylar had revealed it without even realizing it.
Now there was no point following her original plan of carefully explaining yesterday’s incident and the injury that had required minor surgery.
She nodded and offered him a faint smile. "Hmm, just a small injury."
"Let me see." Zachary reached for her hand, but Sienna quickly pulled it away, surprising him.
"Not here. There are too many people around," she said hurriedly. "And this isn’t exactly a clean place to expose the wound."
Understanding immediately, Zachary nodded. Instead of insisting, he took her uninjured hand and held it tightly.
"Alright. Let’s go home."
The three of them finally left the amusement park together as the cool afternoon breeze signaled that the sun would set soon.
...
Several vehicles were waiting outside.
Zachary stopped in front of his usual car before turning toward Skylar.
"Sky, you’ll take that car," he said, pointing toward the vehicle parked ahead of them. "Logan will drive you home."
Skylar immediately frowned. "What? No. I want to go home with you and Mommy."
Zachary bent slightly so he could meet his son’s eyes.
Resting both hands on Skylar’s shoulders, he spoke gently. "Sky, I need you to go home first. Mommy and I will meet you there after I take her to the hospital to have her injured hand checked. I promise you, we’ll be home before you go to sleep. Agree?"
Hearing those words, Sienna quietly exhaled. She had expected this reaction.
Before she could protest to Zachary, Skylar nodded in agreement with his father.
"Mommy." He took her hand carefully and patted it with surprising gentleness. His expression became serious despite his young age. "You need to check your wound. Don’t worry about me. I’ll wait for you at home."
His innocent yet earnest tone made Sienna’s heart soften.
The little boy was thoughtful in exactly the same way his father was.
"Okay." She smiled and gently patted his head. "We will see you at home soon."
After Skylar’s car finally drove away and disappeared from sight, Sienna turned toward the man standing beside her.
The softness in her expression faded, giving way to seriousness. "We need to talk." She said.
Zachary nodded without argument and opened the car door for her.
The moment he settled into the seat beside her, Sienna spoke. "Zach, we don’t need to go to the hospital. This isn’t the right time for another checkup."
"But—"
She interrupted him before he could continue. "You can call your friend, Scott Anderson, and ask him about my schedule and my wound. He’ll explain everything."
Zachary remained silent. Instead of responding directly, he instructed the driver to head toward First Avenue.
Sienna frowned. "We’re going to First Avenue? Not to my apartment or your house?"
He didn’t answer her question immediately. Instead, he looked at her and spoke in his usual calm voice. "We need a quiet place to talk about a lot of things."
Sienna understood what he meant. There were too many things left unsaid between them.
After that, she stopped asking questions.
Silence gradually settled inside the car.
The exhaustion she had been ignoring all day finally caught up with her. Leaning back against the seat, she closed her eyes for a moment.
It didn’t take long before she drifted off to sleep.
Beside her, Zachary watched quietly. A soft sigh escaped him as he realized how quickly she had fallen asleep.
Carefully, he picked up a folded blanket and draped it over her without disturbing her rest. After making sure she was comfortable, he looked toward the driver.
"Drive carefully. My wife is sleeping."
...
When Sienna finally opened her eyes, she found herself lying in a large bedroom she didn’t recognize.
For several seconds, she stared at the unfamiliar ceiling. She didn’t remember arriving there at all, which could only mean one thing: Zachary must have carried her inside while she was asleep.
Slowly, she sat up and looked around.
The room was empty. There was no sign of Zachary anywhere.
"Where am I?"
Her gaze shifted toward the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The sun had already begun to touch the horizon, illuminating the scenery in beautiful orange light. Only then did she check the time. It was seven in the evening.
As she prepared to get out of bed, the bedroom door opened.
Zachary walked inside. He was no longer wearing the clothes he had worn earlier. Instead, he had changed into a fitted black shirt and matching trousers. The sight made her smile slightly because black seemed to be the only color he ever willingly wore.
"You finally woke up from your nap," he said as he approached the bed.
He sat beside her and carefully helped her into a comfortable sitting position, making sure not to touch her injured arm.
"Where are we?"
"In your penthouse."
Sienna immediately frowned. "Don’t tease me, Zach. How would I not know if I owned a luxury penthouse like this?"
A smile appeared on his lips.
"Did you forget the property I gave you? This is one of them. It is yours now."
The memory instantly returned.
