The Billionaire Widow's Driver
Chapter 24: Maya At The Hospital
Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Maya At The Hospital
He stood outside the store, holding the heavy shopping bag with one hand. Some women near the entrance were looking at him and admiring him.
"Hey handsome, do you mind if we take a picture?
Simon ignored them to concentrate on the caller.
His phone rang again.
He looked at the screen. It was Flora. Her boss.
He picked it.
"Hello, Madam," Simon said.
"Simon," Flora said on the phone. Her voice was calm but serious. "Where are you?"
"I just came out from the store, ma’am. I am at the parking lot," Simon said.
"Listen," Flora said. "I am in a hospital with Maya."
Simon stopped walking. The women admiring him were still looking, but he did not mind them.
"Hospital? What happened to Maya, ma’am?" he asked.
"She complained of several headaches, few hours that you left the house," Flora said.
Simon felt his chest tight.
"Headaches? Since when, ma’am?"
" She said that it was since yesterday, but today it became serious," Flora said. "The security surveillance heard her voice from the camera and notified me immediately "
"Oh my Goodness!!
Simon remembered Maya’s uncomfortable behavior the previous day. He had noticed the way she acted around him, but he did not think much about it. He assumed it was just her normal habit. After all, Maya had always been difficult to understand, and he had no reason to suspect anything else.
"Ma’am, how is she now? Is she talking?" Simon asked.
"She is inside," Flora said. "The doctors are checking her. We are in the private wing. Second floor, check your message,I sent the address of the hospital ".
Simon did not wait,he immediately checked his inbox and confirmed the message.
"Okay Ma’am, I am coming now. I am coming immediately," he said.
He cut the call.
He rushed to where he packed his Toyota. His Toyota was at the far end of the parking lot. The women near the store were still admiring him, whispering, "That man is handsome."
He opened the Toyota door and entered. He threw the shopping bag inside the boot, stepped inside and started the car fast.
He drove out of the parking lot at high speed.
On the road, he was driving at high speed ,overtaking cars and constantly pressing the horn.
He was lost in thought while driving.
He hoped the headache was not caused by Maya’s affection for him. The last thing he wanted was to become a problem between a mother and her daughter.
He sighed. He was such a fool for finding himself in this situation, but was it really his fault? He is a ladies’ man, after all. Caring, loving, humble, sweet, cute, rich, and sexy. Women had always found him attractive, and he knew it.
However, he had never chosen Flora because of her beauty or wealth. He chose her because of her kind heart. She saved him when he needed help most and given him a second chance at life.
That meant everything to him.
Simon tightened his grip on the steering wheel. Whatever challenges stood between them, he was ready to face them. He would go any distance for Flora, even if it meant sacrificing everything he had.
His phone rang again.
The caller was Uriah. Simon picked up the call, and she sounded romantic from the other end. He smiled gently as she asked how he has been doing since he left the training. Simon told her he is doing fine and would contact her later. Then, he ended the call.
He shook his head with a smile. Uriah is just a nice, average looking lady, she cannot handle a man like him. Only a powerful woman like Flora could make him loyal. He is a hardcore billionaire who never falls for petty-minded women. He loved women who are mean, harsh, strict, confident, and strong.
Simon arrived at Jose Life Hospital a few minutes later. It was a standard hospital with magnificent buildings, clean glass windows, and a beautiful entrance. The hospital looked expensive, and several cars were parked outside. Doctors, nurses, and visitors moved around the compound, each person busy with their own business.
He parked the Toyota in a suitable space, switched off the engine, and stepped out. After adjusting his shirt and walked towards the entrance door.
As soon as he entered the hospital, he noticed a nurse standing near the reception desk.
"Good afternoon," Simon greeted politely.
"Good afternoon, sir. How may I help you?" the nurse asked with a smile.
"I’m looking for a patient in the second wing. Her name is Maya."
The nurse nodded. "Please follow the corridor, sir. Take the lift to the second floor, and you will see the second wing on your left."
"Thank you. I appreciate it."
"You’re welcome, sir."
Simon continued towards the lift. As he walked through the hospital, he noticed people staring at him. Some nurses whispered to themselves, while a few female visitors turned their heads to look at him again.
He knew he attracts attention wherever he went. His appearance, confident walk, and handsome face often made people curious about him.
However, he paid no attention to them.
When he reached the second wing, he checked the room numbers until he found the number. He stopped outside the door, took a quiet breath, and knocked gently.
"Come in," he heard Flora say.
Simon opened the door and stepped inside.
For a moment, he forgot the reason he had come to the hospital.
Flora was sitting on the hospital bed, looking beautiful in a way he could hardly explain. Her hair was packed into a neat ponytail, making her face look younger.
Even in a hospital, without expensive jewellery or a glamorous dress, she looked like a queen.
Simon stared at her for a few seconds before remembering himself.
Good heavens! How can a woman look this beautiful without even trying? he thought.
Maya was already asleep on the other bed, her breathing slow and peaceful.
Simon quietly closed the door and walked towards Flora. He sat on a couch beside Flora, keeping a respectful distance between them.
Simon looked at her.
"Ma hope she is getting better?
"Yes, the doctor said, she needs enough rest.
"Did you buy the candle?" she asked.
"Yes, I did," Simon answered, they are inside the car boot.
"Good."
A few minutes later, there was silence. Simon hesitated and asked...
"Ma’am, how did you get to the hospital?" Simon asked as he looked at Flora. "Who drove you and Maya here? I didn’t see any of your cars in the hospital car park."
Flora looked at him calmly before answering.
"The security surveillance team from my company brought us here in one of the company cars," she explained.
"I’m sorry I didn’t come home early, ma’am," he said sincerely. "I should have been home earlier."
Flora studied his face for a moment.
"It’s okay, Simon," she replied calmly. "You don’t have to apologise. We managed just fine."
"All right, ma’am. Thank you."
Flora nodded and turned her attention back to Maya, who was resting . Although she appreciated Simon’s concern, she didn’t want him to feel guilty over something that had already been taken care of.
He relaxed comfortably on the couch. Deep inside, he knew one thing.
Flora is more than just the woman who had saved him. She has become the woman he could hardly stop thinking about.
