The Beast Tamer Who Sees Hidden Evolution Paths
Chapter 14: Violet’s Evolution, [Gift of All Spirits]
From afternoon to evening, Adrian stayed busy.
First, he looked up the material needed to restore the Serene Spirit Cat’s quality: an Exceptional-quality Lionbright Fruit.
Lion-type beasts were among the strongest flesh-and-blood companions, so anything related to them was never cheap.
The fruit was no exception. Like the Exceptional-quality Spirit Red Clear Liquid Roxy needed, it cost around one hundred thousand crowns.
Fortunately, at least he could find both in the Beast Tamers’ League marketplace.
That meant everything was still within plan.
Two hundred thousand crowns would have made Adrian’s head ache before he awakened his talent. But now, with Violet about to evolve, he felt it was only a matter of days—a week at most—before he could earn it.
Of course, the exact timeline depended on Violet’s new traits after evolution, and the quality and effects of the “special product” she produced.
While waiting for Violet to finish evolving, Adrian had already harvested the Purple Starvines several more times.
Ever since Violet began evolving yesterday, the vines had grown at an absurd rate.
Adrian had heard of this phenomenon before. It was called [Spirit Energy Burst], and it happened during beast evolution.
A beast’s evolutionary traits were amplified during the process. That was why beasts with special attributes—fire, water, and so on—had to evolve somewhere safe. Otherwise, homes could catch fire or flood.
Once Violet finished evolving, the Purple Starvines would stop growing at such a ridiculous speed. But they would still grow much faster than before.
Adrian also enjoyed the air in the house right now. It was not just fresh. It carried an energy that made a person feel completely refreshed.
There was one more thing: the Serene Spirit Cat adapted to its new home surprisingly quickly.
Maybe it was because it had changed homes so many times.
And it seemed quite satisfied with this new place. After all, the [Spirit Energy Burst] from Violet’s evolution was a gentle wood-attribute energy. For beasts with old injuries, it even had a healing effect.
In its life, the little cat had never been exposed to energy this gentle and profound.
So it spent most of its time in the plant room.
Adrian also noticed it genuinely liked this new home.
Its status panel showed that it could run wild here, howl as much as it wanted, and no one would stop it.
That feeling of being completely itself made it happy.
During this time, Adrian gave it a name.
Lionel.
“Lionel” carried the sound of “lion.” It was Adrian’s promise to him.
It also meant he could freely release his true nature here—no more hiding, no more enduring.
When Adrian explained the name, Lionel only half understood.
But he was still very satisfied.
Because ever since he was born, after so many homes, this was the first time anyone had given him a name.
Building a bond with Lionel went fairly smoothly.
But one afternoon could not erase the emotional wounds he had suffered over the past half year.
Adrian’s goal was simple: let him feel comfortable enough that he would not want to run away.
Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.
Judging by the status panel, everything was going well.
At this moment, Adrian was keeping watch in front of Violet.
According to the panel, her evolution progress had reached 99%.
She could succeed at any moment and reveal her newest form.
Adrian waited eagerly. Around him, the Purple Starvines seemed to have entered the final stage of their “pilgrimage.”
They did not grow outward this time. Instead, they grew in width and thickness, as if trying to welcome the arrival of a new “saint” with the most solid, devout posture possible.
About five minutes later.
The mist before Adrian’s eyes seemed to rewind, rushing back into Violet’s body. Only the room’s fresh fragrance remained.
Violet’s new form gradually appeared before Adrian.
Although he had already seen the Violet Spirit Treasure Orchid’s appearance on the panel, Violet’s true form surprised him even more.
It was a pagoda shape, with three tiers.
The bottom tier had four flowers leaning against one another without feeling crowded. The second tier had two larger flowers, with a flower bud nestled between them, as if it might bloom at any moment.
The top main flower was the largest. Its purple was lighter than the two tiers below, making it look even more fresh and otherworldly.
Every bud held pale purple dew. Adrian had already prepared a new pot.
The moment the drops fell, fragrance exploded through the room. It was faintly sweet, but more than that, it felt like a soothing embrace.
She had evolved!
Truly evolved!
Compared to the “sample” shown on the panel, she had more flowers, greater strength, and a more immortal, graceful bearing.
The first thing Violet noticed after her successful evolution was Adrian.
After evolving, that feeling of perfect compatibility made her incredibly comfortable.
Without hesitation, she controlled her petals and flicked six drops of dew toward Adrian’s mouth.
Adrian drank immediately. First came a faint coolness, then a mouthful of fragrance. The scent traveled through every channel in his body, letting him feel what it meant to be nourished “body and soul.”
The old dew had been sweet and mainly restored spirit, healed injuries, and served as a basic nutrient for some plant-type beasts.
The new dew was clearly stronger. But the exact effects would have to wait until Adrian saw Violet’s new traits.
Lionel, who had been dozing in the plant room, was awakened by the surging energy of Violet’s evolution.
Violet noticed the new little creature and politely flicked a drop of dew to his mouth.
The two old masters had always been warm and hospitable. Violet had learned that habit from them.
Lionel licked it. Comfort made his eyes narrow, and he could not help letting out a “meow.”
Roxy, who had been busy in the main hall, appeared at the door.
Although her illness made her urge to work suppress her emotions, right now she had clearly pushed down the pain just to see her old friend’s evolved form and congratulate her.
Seeing Roxy, Violet generously sent five drops of dew to her mouth.
Roxy knew how important the dew was to the beast feed shop. She definitely wanted to refuse. But before her body could move, her tongue had already reached out. That “loss of composure” made her feel a flash of panic.
But soon, full-body comfort left her no time to blame herself.
Just like Lionel’s “meow,” she could not control the “yip-yip” sound she made. That startled Adrian—he had only heard that sound from Roxy before her evolution.
Back when she could still freely express her emotions.
Adrian immediately realized that this dew had an extraordinary effect on beasts, especially injured ones.
The post-evolution “gift” was not over yet.
Violet had certainly not forgotten the Purple Starvines that had grown with her day and night, her followers.
This time was different. She seemed to tremble slightly, and the immortal mist she had withdrawn spread out like thin gauze, absorbed by the Purple Starvines.
Around the Purple Starvines, a faint purple mist echoed back, as if answering her.
For the first time, Adrian felt how joyfully excited the Purple Starvines in his home were.
They were happy for Violet. And they were happy for themselves too.
Adrian looked at Violet’s newest panel.
[Violet Spirit Treasure Orchid]
[Attribute: Wood]
[Quality: Exceptional—Upper]
[Sex: Female]
[Level: Exceptional 1]
[Traits: Spirit Dew LV1, Treasure Mist LV1]
[Spirit Dew LV1]: Can produce Exceptional—Upper quality [Spirit Dew]. Rapidly restores stamina, heals old wounds, suppresses worsening injuries, and slowly removes impurities from the body.
[Treasure Mist LV1]: Can freely control [Treasure Mist] entering and leaving the body. Plants affected by [Treasure Mist] grow much faster and have a very small chance of mutation.
[Personality]: Homebound, Devoted, Sensitive
[Status]: Overwhelmed with mixed feelings. In the joy and excitement after evolution, but also moved and missing the old masters. If only they were here too.
Seeing Violet’s new traits, Adrian nodded. They matched the abilities she had just displayed.
The exceptional dew was called [Spirit Dew]. It was far better than the [Violet Dew] she used to produce.
As for [Treasure Mist], Adrian felt he would need to slowly test its range.
Looking at Violet’s status, Adrian could not help feeling moved.
Yes. She had truly evolved.
Into the form that suited her best.
This was the best result. It was his mother’s wish. It was the freedom Violet had chased in her dreams.
“I’m still here, Violet.”
As always, Adrian gently touched Violet’s petals, soothing her with the softest words.
Roxy’s eyes were wet.
Lionel looked confused. This kind of warm scene between human and beast—he had never felt it, never seen it.
But it felt… beautiful.
The plant room was quiet for a while. One human and three beasts each had their own thoughts.
After a moment, Adrian remembered that the [Evolution Path] column had shown blurry, flickering symbols and words earlier, as if rearranging themselves into something.
He focused on it again, and his eyes widened.
[Evolution Path]: Evolved into 100% compatible [Violet Spirit Treasure Orchid]. You may claim one freely chosen [Gift of All Spirits].
On that column, three clusters of light in different colors waited quietly in three positions, as if obediently waiting for him to choose.
