The Apocalypse Strikes, I Became a Druid
Chapter 143 Orderly Transfer
Chapter 143: Chapter 142: Orderly Transfer
In the footage just now, the environment of the sea area was extremely terrifying. Even though the image was blurry, Han Ning could feel it deeply.
If, in his previous life, encountering fierce winds and torrential rains that whipped up monstrous waves was relatively rare on the ocean—and could be avoided in advance by observing meteorological satellites and planning routes accordingly—then here, the entire sea area was engulfed in extreme weather.
Tsunamis formed constantly. Fierce winds howled at every moment. Not to mention the monsters in the deep sea, mutated by the Black Tide, intent on destroying all natural living creatures.
"The more I know, the more... hopeless it seems." Han Ning’s face looked somewhat grim.
The Black Tide and natural living creatures seemed to be innate enemies. Creatures affected by the Black Tide would become berserk and bloodthirsty. However, they wouldn’t slaughter each other on a large scale; instead, their aggression was directed entirely at uninfected natural living creatures, stopping only when they had completely assimilated the star body. After that, they... might just die, becoming part of the Black Tide’s cycle.
But the saying still held true.
"Life must go on.
"Finding the civilization left behind by the natives might give us a chance, but the prerequisite is to survive first."
Han Ning sighed and walked out of the room.
As he stepped out, the entire office building was already plunged into an oppressive yet busy atmosphere. Under the dim light, shadows flickered. The sound of hurried footsteps, the clattering of objects, and low-pitched commands intertwined.
Everyone was busy, constantly on the move, because if they stopped, their body heat would be rapidly sapped away.
"Prioritize moving the crops, seeds, and experimental equipment..." Professor Ye directed his agricultural team.
"Professor Ye, these ordinary vegetable seedlings... should we take them?" A middle-aged man looked hesitantly at a few baskets of sprouts wilting in the cold wind in the corner, a look of longing in his eyes.
Professor Ye might look down on ordinary vegetable seedlings, but to them, these were life-saving food.
Professor Ye took a look and shook his head. "Space is limited, so we must prioritize the mutants and seeds. You guys can take them and divide them among yourselves."
Next door, Vice President Zhao was directing a few Power-type Awakened, carefully moving several heavy, sealed boxes toward the stairwell entrance. Inside the boxes were the food and medicine everyone had been constantly hoarding over this period.
Not far away, Lin Qianqian and several others were moving items for her ship.
Downstairs, over a dozen people crowded the corridor leading to the temporary mooring area outside the building.
Xu Ming shouldered a bulging large bag full of food and bedding, walking toward the Wind Chaser Sailing Ship. The water level had now breached the third floor of the office building, and they had steered the ships right up against the windowsills. Therefore, the passageways to the ships were the windowsills themselves, secured to the hulls with ropes.
By his waist, little Xu Yinyin was hugging a large canvas bag wider than herself, stuffed with individually packaged emergency rations. She carried a small box of snacks with all her might, her short little legs moving with difficulty. Her tender cheeks were flushed red from the freezing cold, and large puffs of white mist billowed from her nose and mouth.
"Yinyin, give it to Daddy," Xu Ming said with a smile, glancing sideways at his daughter.
"Daddy... I can carry it!" She looked up, her voice trembling slightly, her small face trying hard to maintain a calm expression.
Over the past few days, the sight of the ordinary people from Biyun Resort struggling to survive with barely enough food to fill their stomachs had deeply impacted Xu Yinyin’s young mind. The little girl increasingly understood the importance of food. She wanted to bring lots of food before they evacuated! That way, Daddy, Yinyin, and Uncle Han wouldn’t go hungry!
Watching his daughter sway slightly under the weight, Xu Ming felt a mix of heartache and helplessness, but also a sense of gratification. His daughter was becoming more and more sensible.
"Yinyin is so awesome. Tell me when you’re tired, and Daddy will take it."
Feigning nonchalance, he placed the large parcels onto the ship while secretly keeping an eye on his daughter’s movements, ready to take over the moment she couldn’t hold on any longer.
The water in the mooring area heaved violently from the fierce wind, with waves constantly crashing against the hulls. Snow Cake was submerged in the water, helping stabilize the hull of the Wind Chaser Sailing Ship and keeping it steady.
Not far away, eight other sailing ships and fishing boats of various sizes, all scarred and battered, rocked violently in the wind and waves, letting out creaking noises. They were the vital possessions of the people from Biyun Resort.
According to Chairman Wu’s distribution rules, each of the eight ships was to be assigned a Vice President Level Awakened, along with several weaker Awakened. However, considering that the association currently only had one president and five vice presidents in total, the remaining two ships were manned by a larger number of Awakened.
The supplies for each ship had been distributed based on prior meetings and discussions. The Awakened on each ship were responsible for loading and managing their respective ship’s supplies.
"Hurry, pass the stuff up." Long stood on the deck of a catamaran, shouting commands as he continuously manipulated the water currents to stabilize the ship.
The Awakened formed two lines, passing various supplies relay-style from the office building’s windows onto the ships.
Heavy diesel barrels, boxes of vegetables, bundled bedding... item after item was compressed to the extreme and squeezed into the limited cabins and below-deck storage spaces.
Space quickly ran out.
"Chairman Wu, the cargo capacity of the eight ships is almost full, but we still have... still have over twenty ordinary people who can’t get on," an Awakened in charge of the inventory whispered, rushing to the side of Chairman Wu’s ship.
Chairman Wu looked at the ordinary people who were helping move supplies, completely oblivious to the situation. He pursed his lips and swept his gaze over the other nearby ships that were similarly sitting deep in the water, before finally landing on his own slightly larger catamaran. He spoke up:
"Old Li, throw out those boxes of spare parts on our ship.
"Let the elderly ordinary people and the children board my ship first."
Then, he turned to the Awakened beside him. "Tell Long and the others to clear out a bit more space. Throw away unnecessary items as much as possible. People are the most important."
"Understood."
As for the siblings Jiang Rui and Jiang Yuan from South District Gangwon, along with three other ordinary people who had recently been rescued by Han Ning and his group, they stood awkwardly to the side. They wanted to step forward and help, but with more hands available than supplies, there was no need for their intervention at all.
"Brother... do you think they’ll take us along?" Jiang Rui was very worried.
She was a cute-looking girl with long, slender limbs and distinct muscle lines on her arms—a striking combination of an adorable face and a mature woman’s physique. Compared to Yu Na, one was aloof and pretty, while the other was cute and lively.
"I don’t know..." Jiang Yuan shook his head, a look of worry on his face.
"We aren’t Awakened and can’t provide much combat power. These people won’t value us," Jiang Rui said pessimistically.
"Are you guys busy right now?" At this moment, a cold yet crisp voice rang out beside them.
The group turned their heads, only to see Yu Na standing there, hands stuffed into the pockets of her padded coat, watching them expressionlessly.
Jiang Yuan quickly waved his hands. "Not busy, not busy. Miss, what are your orders?"
"If you’re not busy, come with me. Chairman Wu assigned you to Sister Qianqian’s ship. She told me to bring you over."
After Yu Na finished speaking, she turned and walked away, leaving them with a cool view of her back.
"Sister Qianqian?" The siblings exchanged a glance.
Yu Na led them to where Lin Qianqian was working. Looking toward Lin Qianqian, who was directing work not far away, she said casually, "She’s Sister Qianqian. I still have things to do."
She then walked straight over to Professor Ye’s side and began helping him organize some agricultural crops for experiments.
