The Apocalypse Strikes, I Became a Druid
Chapter 139 Water Monkey
Chapter 139: Chapter 138: Water Monkey
Upon hearing that the other party had important information, Han Ning willed it with a thought.
CRASH!
The sturdy glass window shattered instantly. Since the third floor was almost completely submerged by the floodwaters, breaking a window didn’t matter anymore.
Five water-like vines extended, wrapping around the four figures clinging to the wall and a fifth who was about to be swept away by the raging torrent. The vines retracted, pulling them inside through the broken window one after another.
"COUGH COUGH... URGH..."
The five rescued people coughed violently, vomiting large mouthfuls of foul water. Having just been pulled from the flood, they were completely drenched. Combined with the freezing temperatures, they were shivering uncontrollably.
To Han Ning’s surprise, none of the five emitted the unique Energy Fluctuations of an Awakened. Even the young man and woman, who appeared relatively physically fit, showed no signs of it. The man who had called for help was about twenty-five or twenty-six years old. He had chiseled features and was somewhat handsome. The girl was slightly younger, looking about the same age as Yu Na. Her facial features bore a resemblance to the man’s, and she was currently clinging tightly to his arm.
"Jiang Yuan..." the girl’s voice trembled. Faced with everyone’s stares, she couldn’t help but shrink behind the man.
"It’s okay, Ruirui. We’re safe for now."
The man patted his sister’s back to comfort her before looking up at Han Ning and the others, his eyes brimming with gratitude. "Thank you. Thank you for saving us. My name is Jiang Yuan, and this is my sister, Jiang Rui."
The people from Biyun Resort gathered around. Chairman Wu looked them up and down and asked, "Where did you come from?"
"My sister and I ran a small Martial Arts gym in Bailu City. After transmigrating here, we stayed in the area southwest of the original Bailu City, living together with a group of Awakened.
"These are our companions who lived with us," Jiang Yuan said, pointing to the other three shivering ordinary people. He continued, "Just two days ago, strong winds suddenly hit our settlement. The temperature plummeted, the water levels surged, and... a type of monster that looks a lot like a Water Monkey appeared in the flood."
He pointed at the dark, churning water outside the window. "The important intelligence I mentioned is about those Water Monkeys that can move rapidly through the water. They look humanoid, but they aren’t human. Their entire bodies are covered in slimy scales, their limbs are long and thin, and their claws are as sharp as knives.
"They swim as fast as fish and specialize in dragging people under. They can even ride Sea Beasts. Ever since they appeared, many of the Awakened in our area have been..."
Before Jiang Yuan could finish his sentence, a sudden crisis struck.
SPLASH!
The water surface not far from the office building suddenly exploded. A dark shadow burst out of the water, shooting out several green objects. Accompanied by a strong, fishy stench, the projectiles flew straight toward the five newly rescued survivors.
The creature was nearly two meters tall and vaguely humanoid. Its entire body was covered in slimy, dark green scales. It had webbed fingers and sharp bone spurs protruding from its joints. Its head was long and narrow, with deeply sunken eye sockets that glowed with an eerie green light. It had a massive mouth filled with fine, sharp teeth, and it let out a bizarre HISS.
The monster’s speed was incredibly fast, and its attack was so sudden that most people couldn’t react in time.
"You have a death wish!" A cold glint flashed in Han Ning’s eyes; he reacted the fastest.
With a thought, several vines that had been standing guard nearby intercepted the incoming projectiles. The objects turned out to be a few strands of dark green, almost black, kelp. At the same time, the vines whipped viciously toward the lunging Water Monkey.
CRACK!
The vines lashed against the monster’s body, spreading a biting chill. The immense force made it stumble, instantly halting its lunging momentum.
ROAR!
With a low growl, snow cake’s Tri-Colored Crystal Scale on its forehead swirled with light. A condensed Tri-Colored Beam shot out, aiming straight for the Water Monkey’s head.
The Water Monkey was exceptionally agile. Its body twisted bizarrely, narrowly avoiding a fatal blow. The Tri-Colored Beam grazed its shoulder, bringing with it a spray of dark green blood.
SCREECH!
The injured Water Monkey let out a piercing screech. Its eerie green eyes locked onto Han Ning and snow cake, filled with venomous resentment. Seemingly realizing that this group of people was not to be trifled with, it abruptly jerked its body backward.
Outside, a white crest broke through the murky water. The Water Monkey with the injured shoulder leaped onto the back of a three-meter-long mutated shark. Its long, slender claws tightly gripped the shark’s dorsal fin, resembling a cavalryman riding a warhorse. The shark’s tail thrashed frantically, churning up rolling foam as it sprinted toward the depths of the flood at a speed far exceeding that of an ordinary boat.
"Think you can escape?" Han Ning scoffed coldly as blinding lightning erupted around him.
Crackling blue and white electric snakes coiled and leaped, completely enveloping his figure. Under everyone’s horrified gazes, his body rapidly shrank and transformed.
CRACKLE!
Electric arcs tore through the air.
In his Thunder Marsh Mink form, Han Ning’s four paws struck the water. Furious electric currents shot directly into the surface, blasting open boiling ripples. In the next instant, he turned into a lightning afterimage, shooting out close to the raging floodwaters.
SWISH!
Han Ning, in his Thunder Marsh Mink form, sprinted across the water. With every push, he used the repulsive force between the electricity and the water surface to gain a secondary acceleration. Wherever he passed, a trail of fleeting, blindingly white scorch marks was left on the water.
The distance that had initially widened between him and the shark-riding Water Monkey was now shrinking at a visible rate. Sensing the terrifying pressure chasing from behind, the Water Monkey shrieked in panic and desperately slapped the shark’s head. In pain, the massive shark increased its speed even further, nearly leaping entirely out of the water. But it was all in vain!
ZZZT-BOOM!
When the distance was less than five meters, the Thunder Marsh Mink that Han Ning had transformed into leaped into the air. The Power of Thunder accumulated around his body was compressed to the limit, condensing mid-air into a dazzling, blindingly white Thunder Claw.
The Water Monkey looked back in horror, only to see a field of lightning that devoured everything. The lightning-infused claw shot forth.
The furious electrical current pierced through the Water Monkey’s chest and blasted out of its back. With its remaining momentum undiminished, the strike completely shattered the skull of the shark beneath it.

Amidst the blinding lightning, the Water Monkey’s scale-covered body convulsed violently. Its eerie green eyes instantly turned dull and scorched black, and both its body and the skin of the shark beneath it were carbonized by the Thunderbolt Power.
The lightning faded, and Han Ning returned to his human form. Scooping up the two corpses, he lightly tapped the water’s surface for leverage and landed steadily back in the office building. The entire process took no more than a few seconds, moving so fast that it left everyone holding their breath.
"Is... is it handled?" Vice President Zhao’s voice was dry. He noted internally that Mr. Han hadn’t made a move in a few days, yet his strength had become even more unfathomable.
The entire sequence of events had occurred in a flash; from the monster’s appearance to its demise, merely two or three seconds had passed.
"Is this the water monster you were talking about?" Chairman Wu asked, his expression grave as he looked at the still-shocked Jiang Yuan.
Jiang Yuan nodded vigorously, his heart still pounding with lingering fear. "Yes, that’s them. There is more than one of these things. They are quite intelligent; they know how to ambush and launch sneak attacks."
Chairman Wu furrowed his brows deeply. They had just gotten rid of a nest of Black Snake Monsters, and now an ugly breed of Water Monkeys had appeared. Furthermore, it seemed that these creatures were even more troublesome than the Black Snake Monsters.
Han Ning took the Iron Axe handed over by Xu Ming. From the two corpses, he dug out two Energy Crystal Stones—one black and one blue, one large and one small. Staring at the Energy Crystal Stones circulating with peculiar Energy in his hand, he said, "Take a rest first, then tell us everything you know in detail, especially regarding the number, habits, and weaknesses of these Water Monkeys."
