The Almighty Dragon Rider Returns
Chapter 113: Not Wanted Here
The frown on Gideon’s face worsen the more as he saw the person that was leaning the grey stone pillar.
It was Marlow. They both went to the same academy together back in the past.
They have been paired up together in the past, survived hard drills and freezing winters side by side, but Marlow always have a way of getting under people’s skin and making people to always want to punch him.
The boy let out an annoying smile.
"Well, well. Look who survived Post Six," Marlow said as he pushed himself off the wall. "The rumours going around was that you got swallowed up by the snow, Gideon. I thought I would never see that grumpy face of yours again."
Gideon did not smile back.. "I told you many times to leave me alone, Marlow."
Marlow chuckled as he stepped forward with an annoying swagger. His uniform collar was slightly open. "And I am afraid I can not do that, old friend. I always love seeing that pissed look on your face.."
Before Gideon could snap back, the wooden doors of the supply hall was pushed open.
Reynold and the rest of the group walked out. They were all holding their new gray uniforms and leather boots, and they carried their recruit packs.
Marlow’s eyes moved past Gideon immediately and they landed on Nymeria.
"Oh, look who we have here," Marlow said with his voice full of sarcasm. He stepped closer and made a fake, mocking bow. "If it is not the Viceroy’s precious daughter."
He stood up and looked at Reynold. "And you must be the famous Starweaver boy..."
"What the fuck is the privileged Viceroy’s daughter doing here?!"
A loud, angry voice sounded before Marlow could finish talking.
It was a red-haired junior officer. He pushed his way through his group friends. His face was red with anger, and the veins on his neck stuck out. "She does not belong with us! Why don’t you fuck off back to the Enclave where you really belong, privileged brat!"
Reynold frown as his hands squeezed into tight fists at his sides. He took a step forward and was ready to throw a punch if the boy get closer.
But Gideon grabbed Reynold’s arm immediately and pulled him back. "Don’t do it. It is not a good idea to go after a junior officer on your first day here." Gideon’s voice was firm. "Come on. We are leaving now."
Marlow let out a loud laugh. "Look at you, Gideon. Since when did you start acting like a mentor?"
Gideon did not even turn around to look at him. "Fuck off, Marlow."
As they started walking, Evan look back and he raised his middle finger high into the air and smirk at the red-haired boy who was still standing there.
West hurried over to Nymeria’s side. "Hye. Don’t let what that jerk said get to you. He is just barking because he is nobody," West said quietly as he tried to cheer her up.
Nymeria did not say any thing as she just kept walking..
Then, Gideon suddenly stopped walking. The group stopped behind him.
There was a serious look on his face.
"Listen to me," Gideon said, turning to face them. "I am going straight to administration to report everything that happened at Post Six. I am to tell them every single detail which includes Lord Damon."
West’s eyes went wide. "Will... will we get punished?"
"No," Gideon said quickly. "We didn’t kill Lord Damon. The dragon did, and for a good reason. He broke the rule and turned use black magic against his own dragon."
Reynold pause before he finally asked. "Will my dragon get punished for killing him?"
"No," Gideon said again. "Your dragon did what needed to be done."
Gideon pointed to a tired clerk walking out of a nearby office with a ring of iron keys. "That clerk will show you to your room. Get settled, stay out of trouble, and I will see you guys later."
With that, Gideon turned around and walked fast toward the administrative building.
He went straight to Room 13.
The wooden door of Room 13 has a simple brass sign on it. Inside, Officer Margaret was sitting behind a wide wooden desk. Two other serious-looking male officers was sitting beside her.
Gideon knocked once before he walked inside. He then let out a quick salute. Then he sat down on the wooden chair facing them.
"At ease, Gideon," one of the male officers said as he leaned forward. "We read your report you sent through the bird, but command wants every single detail. Start from the beginning. What happened at Post Six?"
Gideon started talking. He told them everything, the golems attack, Bobby’s sudden and scary attack on Reynold, and how Lord Damon used dark magic on his dragon and how he also helped the Malpas tribe.
When he finally stopped talking, the room went very quiet.
The second male officer narrowed his eyes and tapped his finger on the desk.
"And your magic comm. Did you have it on while all this was happening?"
"Yes. It was on the whole time."
The officer then held out an open hand. "Let’s have it."
Gideon reached down to the chest pocket of his uniform. His fingers touched a hidden seam in the corner. With a soft click, a small magic communication stone dropped into his hand. It was dyed and the same exact color of his uniform, so nobody could tell it was there just by looking at him.
He placed it gently on the desk.
Officer Margaret leaned over to look at the small stone before looking back up at Gideon. "Thank you, Officer. You can go now."
Gideon let out a quick nod, stood up from the chair, and walked toward the door.
He stepped out into the hallway and pulled the door shut. Then he stopped and pressed his ear on the wood door to see if he could hear what the officers were saying inside.
But he did not hear anything at all.
Gideon let out a long, tired breath as rubbed the back of his neck. He then turned and left..
Back near the recruit area, Reynold and the group were still waiting for the clerk to bring their room keys.
As they were waiting for him, some junior officers walked past them. They were talking loudly about the party happening tonight for the new recruits.
"..seriously, the welcome party for the new recruits is tonight behind the East barracks," one of them said out loudly. "I heard they opened a whole barrel of sweet frost-mead for the party."
When West heard that, his face lit up quickly as a big, wide grin spread across his face as he turned around to look at Reynold and the rest.
"Did you guys hear that?" West whispered, his eyes shining with excitement. "There is a welcome party tonight and plenty of alcohol to drink."
He looked at all of them as he raised his eyebrows. "We are all going, right?"
