The Almighty Dragon Rider Returns
Chapter 106: She Survived
Every Golem was already on the floor dead. Their bodies were smashed into pieces.
Looking around, not even a single officer survived the fight too. Except Gideon.
The scene was very bad to look at. Dead bodies of officers was scattered on the frozen floor with their blood staining the white snow.
Up on the sky and across the field, low groans and painful yelps of dragons roars was coming from the dragons who had just lost their riders. They were flapping their wings and circling the bodies of the fallen officers.
The sky was still not clear.
Reynold was still on the floor. He was holding his head in his hands as he kept looking down. He was shaking from the inside.
Suddenly, blue lightning started to wrap around his body. They sparked loudly, and twisted across his arms and legs. It was getting thicker and brighter by every seconds..
Nyx, who was sitting on the ground completely speechless, raised her head when she saw this with her eyes going wide.
"Reynold!" she shouted. "Reynold, snap out of it!"
She reached out her hand, and tried to touch his shoulder to pull him back, but the lightning shocked her hand.
"Ah!" Nyx pulled her hand back quickly, and held the fingers. She shifted back on the snow, but she kept yelling over and over.
"Reynold, please, snap out of it!"
She could not afford to take another loss. Not after Nymeria.
West wiped the blood from his face, as he looked at the blue lightening in fear. "What is happening to him?!"
Gideon eyes were fixed on the blue light burning around Reynold. "The storm is feeding off his grief," Gideon said softly. "His emotions are high and out of control."
Evan coughed as he hold his chest and he looked at the blue luggage. "Is it going to kill him?"
"Yes," Gideon said plainly. "If he doesn’t control it right sooner, it will tear his body apart."
Niya gripped her weapon as her face turned pale. "We should do something to help!!"
Gideon shook his head slowly. "There is nothing we can do. He is the one that has to control it."
Lyra attached her hands to her face as as tears dropped from her cheeks. "By the flames..." she murmured softly.
Just then, sound of wing sounded very closed.
Reynold’s three dragons flew down from the sky and landed heavily on the snow. They let out low rumbling roars.
Nyx quickly move back more to give them space as the dragons moved forward.
Then, the three dragons wrapped themselves around Reynold, as they formed a circle around him.
They lowered their large heads gently and started pressing their snouts against Reynold’s back and shoulders.
Through their bond, they seemed to be feeding him with happy memories from his past—memories of laughing and playing with his parents.
Slowly, the blue lightning started reducing. The popping sounds died down, and then the blue light completely disappeared from his skin.
The dragons then nudged Reynold repeatedly with their noses while making small purring sounds. Only when they knew he was okay and breathing normally did they lift their big wings and fly off into the sky.
The moment the dragons left, Nyx rushed to him. She threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly.
Reynold just sat there with his eyes closed as he murmured under his breath, "She is not waking up... Nyx, she is not waking up..."
Seeing that the storm had stopped and Reynold was okay, the others let out a long sigh of relief.
Niya pressed a hand to her chest. "Bless the flames..."
Lyra slowly moved closer to Nymeria’s cold body, as she stared down at the deep wound where the sharp wood was still sticking out.
"I think...I think I can heal her." Lyra murmured slowly
Niya turned her head fast, with her eyes wide with shock. "What?! Lyra, you can not! She is already dead!"
"No," Lyra quickly said while shaking her head as she dropped to her knees beside Nymeria. "Look! Look closely! The wood did not pierce her heart, or any large portions of her lungs, liver, or spleen. And it did not touch any major arteries either!"
West frowned, as he looked down at the messy wound. "How did you know that?"
"Because of how the wound is positioned!" Lyra said and pointed at it. "It missed the vital centers by a small inche!"
Niya walked forward, and held Lyra’s shaking shoulder. "But that is too risky! A healing like that will take a massive amount of energy, Lyra! Look at you, you are barely standing on your own feet!"
Lyra looked up at Niya with desperate look. "Let me try, please... I just have to seal the minor damaged organs and vessels, then stabilize the spine and the major structures..."
Niya looked at Lyra’s pale face, then at Reynold and Nyx who was still staring blankly and hugging each other. She let out a long sigh. "Fine."
Lyra immediately looked up at the boys.
"West, Evan, Gideon... help pull her off the wood gently. "
The three men first stared at each other in doubt, then let out a quick nod.
They walked over and crouched around Nymeria. They were very gentle as they grabbed the sharp piece of wood and pulled her body free from the broken beam.
The moment her back was out of the wood, Nymeria’s chest started heaving very slowly again.
Dark red blood instantly started popping out more from the open wound.
Evan’s eyes almost popped out of his head. "She is still breathing!" he yelled out.
Reynold and Nyx, who were still hugging on the floor, raised their heads fast.
They stared at Nymeria in total shock, then quickly grabbed and hold each other’s palms tightly.
Lyra was already down on her knees.
She pressed her hands directly on the open wound to suppress the heavy bleeding. Once the blood slowed down a bit, she stood up slightly and closed her eyes.
Glowing white and gold light wrapped around her entire body.
Lyra moved her hands forward and the glowing healing threads came out from her palms, and entered deep into the cut.
The threads started weaving together and entering the deep tissue, and repairing every torn organ, then stitching tiny blood vessels back together, and mending the cracked bone near her spine.
"Ah..." Lyra let out a painful groan as she quickly bit her lower lip to keep herself from crying out.
Her body was shaking and her legs were starting to feel numb from total exhaustion.
Niya swallowed hard as she watched her friend struggle. She took a step closer and called out softly, "Go on, Lyra... keep going."
To keep Lyra’s mind clear, Niya started talking about her favorite things in the world. "Think about the sun back at the upland coast, Lyra. Think about the sweet honey baked cake from the bakery you love so much... and the smell of fresh lavender..."
Niya’s words seemed to be working. Lyra took a breath as she balance her leg, and pushed more healing light straight into Nymeria’s body.
It took several painful minutes before the internal organs were fully repaired and the deep hemorrhage was stopped.
Lyra then proceeded to closing the long outside cut.
Sweat was already dropping from her forehead fast and falling to the cold snow but she kept pushing.
Niya too was talking softly about the favourite memories and reminding her of everything she loved.
After what felt like several hours, the cut was all stitched together.
Lyra collapsed straight to the ground as her body completely fail her.
Niya rushed forward and grabbed Lyra before her head hit the ground. At the same time, Reynold and Nyx rushed over to Nymeria’s side.
Nymeria was still on the snow. Her breathing was faint, but it was steady and stable now.
Nyx looked up at Lyra with wide and hopeful eyes. "Is she... is she going to be okay?"
Lyra coughed weakly as she leaned against Niya’s shoulder. "I think so... but her full recovery might be very slow..."
Tears came back to Reynold and Nyx’s eyes, but this time it was pure relief.
"Thank you... thank you so much, Lyra... thank you," they said repeatedly while holding each other’s hands.
Seeing the wound close and hearing she was going to be okay, West threw his arms around Gideon and Evan Without even thinking as he hugged them both out of pure happiness.
Realizing what he was doing, West quickly pulled back and he scratched his head awkwardly with a small laugh. "Thanks the flame..."
Niya held Lyra tightly in her arms. She looked down and said softly, "Lyra... your nose is bleeding."
Lyra raised the back of her hand and wiped the blood drop from her lip quickly. "I will be fine..." she murmured weakly, her eyes were half-closed. "I just need enough rest... and I will be okay..."
Niya nodded softly and said nothing again. She wrapped her arm around Lyra, and hugged her close, and then placed a soft kiss on her forehead.
After a long while of silence, Evan rubbed his neck and asked, "What are we going to do now?"
Gideon looked around at the ruined field, then back at the group. "There is a hidden underground safe space a few hours’ ride away from here. We can go there and lay low for now... at least until Nymeria is fully okay to ride long distances."
The others looked at each other, and then nodded slowly in agreement. "Okay."
.....
Location: Dorlath City
Inside a room, Lord Damon, the father of Hektor, was standing and staring at a window. Beside him was a mysterious figure that was covered in a purple hood.
Lord Damon turned his head to face the figure. "I do not even know why I am helping you people," Damon growled. "How am I sure that the Starweaver boy killed my son, and that the Nymeria girl helped him?"
The figure did not move. Instead, a raspy voice came from under the cloth. "You already saw everything through the mirror... and the mirror does not lie."
"Nonsense!" Lord Damon spat. "They used the Blood Seeker Orb on him, and it did not turn red when it was in front of him."
"That is because the Nymeria girl altered it," the figure said calmly.
Lord Damon slammed his fist on a wooden table. "Dammit! Even if you are saying the truth, there is no way Nymeria could have wiped the mind of every cadet in that pit when she had the binding collar on her neck! She can not use her mind magic!"
The figure let out a low, mocking laugh. "You saw everything in the mirror, Lord Damon. That girl is sneaky. She found a way to alter the collar without alerting the council."
The figure paused, then continued. "Right now, we are the only option you have of avenging your son. You can not go to the King, or the academy authorities, because you have zero proof. Your only proof is our mirror... and mentioning the mirror will only expose that you have been working with the Malpas tribe."
Lord Damon clenched his hand tight. "Fuck..."
He had only agreed to help them to avenge Hektor’s death. That was why he had secretly given the Malpas tribe the private security codes to bypass Post 6 perimeter.
Just then, the door opened and another figure on a hood walked in. The figure leaned over, and murmured something quietly into the the other figure’s ear.
The figure went still for a second, then let out a strange sound.
"Unbelievable."
Lord Damon stepped forward quickly.
"What is unbelievable?!"
The figure turned back to him. "The Starweaver boy’s storm power burst out... and killed every single Golem."
Lord Damon’s eyes widened. "Please tell me the Starweaver boy is dead!"
"No," the figure said softly. "He survived. But the Nymeria girl was heavily injured."
"DAMN IT!" Lord Damon yelled with his face turning red. "I want them dead! That was the only reason I agreed to help you!"
He swallowed and then pointed his finger at the door. "Get out... get out of my sight! It seems you people are completely useless to me!"
