Chapter 105: Is Nymeria Dead?

For a moment, Reynold forgot they were in the middle of a fight. He just kept looking down at Nymeria’s face with his chest breathing hard.

"Nymeria..." Reynold called softly.

Nymeria looked at him, then her eyes went wide. "Reynold! Reynold!"

Reynold blinked and quickly snapped out of it.

He quickly rolled over onto the cold ground with his ribs burning from the long cut.

Nymeria stood up fast and dusted the dirt and ice from her pants. She wiped a small trick of blood from her mouth and then looked at Reynold, and murmured, "Thanks."

"Yeah," Reynold said, getting back to his feet.

At the other end, West was struggling against a big Golem on his own. He raised his hands, and orange flame shot out immediately but it did not do anything to stop to the monster. The Golem swung his big arm and cut West deep across his forearm.

"Argh!" West yelled out in pain as he stepped back on the ice.

Gideon saw it and rushed in to help. He threw his hand out, and thick roots rushed out from the wooden floorboards, and wrapped around the Golem’s legs to hold it back.

Inside her light shield, Lyra heard West yell and turned her attention to him. Her shield was still glowing with white defensive light, completely sealing her off so no attack could touch her inside.

Lyra pointed her hands toward West. Long, glowing white healing threads came out right from her shield and reached across the air. They wrapped around West’s bleeding arm to close the cut.

"Someone help." Niya shouted.

Reynold and Nymeria eyes quickly moved across the chaotic field and landed on a Golem that was dragging Niya by the leg across the ground. Evan was already lying on the snowy ground nearby, and bleeding heavily from his chest from the same Golem’s attack.

Nymeria turned to Reynold fast. "Follow the left while I tie the Golem down!"

Reynold let out a quick nod. "Got it!"

Nymeria thrust her hands out and a mix of shadow mist and earth magic burst out, wrapping tightly around the Golem’s legs and pulling it down onto its knees.

Reynold moved fast, and slide low across the ice toward the left side. But the Golem was strong. It broke one arm free and hit Nymeria hard across her chest, cutting her and sending her falling to the ground.

Reynold jumped in from the side, driving his sword up into the joint, but the Golem’s other fist swung and caught Reynold in the ribs, cutting him deeper and sending him sliding across the ice.

"Argh!"

They both pushed through the pain and stood up quickly. Nymeria used her shadow magic to pull the Golem’s head down, and Reynold rushed in with everything he had left as he drive his blade straight into the seam under the neck.

CRACK!

The blue-white rune inside shattered, and the Golem collapsed into a pile of broken rocks.

Lyra was getting a little tired. She suddenly fell to her knees inside her shield. She was breathing fast, and her chest was moving up and down quickly.

She was very tired, but she tried to hold herself together as her eyes landed on Niya, who was still on the ground bleeding.

Lyra’s hands were shaking as she looked at her hands.

"You’ve got this, Lyra..." she muttered to herself, her voice shaking. "Look, your best friend is on the ground and bleeding, and she needs you to fix it..."

She closed her eyes and took a long slow breath, and opened them again.

This time, her hands stopped shaking. She thrust her hands out, and her white light reached Niya, and instantly closing the cut on her leg. Then she shifted her attention to Evan, as she send her light over to stop the bleeding on his chest.

Up in the dark sky, one of the dragons flew low over the field and targeted a Golem below and then let out a long stream of hot dragonfire straight onto the torso. The fire was so hot that it melted the stone chest and destroyed the core rune inside, and turning the Golem into liquid heat.

For a second, Reynold and Nymeria stopped and took a deep breath. It looked like the fight was far from over. And they all looked completely tired.

Just then, a massive Golem came from behind without any warning.

It swung its heavy stone arm and hit Nymeria straight from behind. The force sent her flying through the air, and she landed hard with her back against a sharp piece of wood sticking out from a broken beam.

CRACK!

The sharp wood punched through her back and popped out in the front of her torso and lifted her slightly before gravity dragged her down onto it.

"NYMERIA!" Reynold screamed.

Reynold rushed over to her instantly. He dropped on his knees beside her, and quickly grabbed her face with his shaking hands, and trying to calm his fast-beating heart while calling her name repeatedly.

"Nymeria! Nymeria! Look at me! Stay with me!"

Nymeria was already bleeding heavily from the wood, and dark red blood was coming out from her mouth.

Nyx, who was holding off another Golem nearby, dropped her weapon and rushed to Nymeria too.

Lyra was dead shocked inside her shield, with her hands pressed against her mouth. West, Niya, Evan and Gideon just stood there, and was too shocked to even make a move.

Nyx and Reynold held onto Nymeria’s cold hands tightly.

"Please, Nymeria, don’t go... hold on, please..." Reynold begged, with tears already filling his eyes as he held her hand tight.

"Stay with us, Nymeria! Keep your eyes on me!" Nyx cried out, as she squeezed her hand.

Nymeria tried to look at Reynold one last time, with her lips opening slightly, but no words came out.

Then, Nymeria’s eyes slowly closed. Her body went completely limp, and she stopped breathing.

Reynold hit her shoulder repeatedly, trying to wake her up. "Nymeria! Wake up! Come on, wake up!"

Seeing her body go completely cold, Reynold and Nyx eyes became fully watery.

Tears fell down Reynold’s face fast, and he threw his head back and screamed at the top of his lungs.

"NOOOOOOOOO!"

All the veins on his neck, face, and arms became visible as he screamed in pure pain.

"Nooooooooo.."

BOOM!

Immediately, a loud thunderclap sounded across the sky. Reynold’s storm magic exploded out from his body as the whole sky changed in a second and turning pitch black with heavy dark clouds.

CRACK-BOOM!

Massive strike of thunder and lightning shot down from the sky, and was followed by multiple lightning bolts striking down at the exact same time.

Every single Golem left on the field was struck directly by the thunder.

The lightning cracked their core runes, and every single Golem fell down to the ground, dead.
