The Aboveboard Assassin
Chapter 133 - 119: Story Roleplay Dungeon!
Chapter 133: Chapter 119: Story Roleplay Dungeon!
In story Dungeons, there was a rather unique subcategory known as role-playing Dungeons. In these instances, players did not intervene as outsiders but instead took on the roles of individuals who already existed within the Dungeon itself.
The players’ appearances would not change, and they could still see each other’s true forms. Furthermore, their abilities would remain completely unaffected.
However, to the native inhabitants of the Dungeon, the players appeared exactly like the people they were impersonating. Naturally, they would be treated as those very characters.
The role Yu Zhun played was that of the Legendary Assassin Herbert.
He had just accepted a commission to assassinate Louis, the Second City Lord of Red Cloud City.
Well, at least he wouldn’t just be sitting here doing nothing.
Taking a small sip from his glass, Yu Zhun silently set down the barely touched drink, walked out of the underground bar, and picked up his Communication Button. After so much time had passed, the other guild members should have already realized the nature of this Dungeon. He wondered how they were doing.
The Red Wasteland.
Hundreds of scantily clad, emaciated refugees huddled together. They possessed an unusual crimson complexion—the very trait that had caused them to be ostracized by Red Cloud City, leaving them with no choice but to wander the ruins.
They were a group of Red People.
At this moment, these Red People were either sitting or standing, their gazes filled with devotion and anticipation as they looked toward the four figures in the center.
These four held the highest authority among the Red People.
There was Lomon, the patriarch, who was the only one capable of entering and leaving Red Cloud City to trade for goods and food.
There was Tina, the Wizard, who was blessed by the Celestial God and could summon powerful Magic to dispel disasters and drive away the surging hordes of Red Ghosts.
There was Carl, the Fearless Warrior and the strongest among the Red People, who repeatedly thwarted the Red Ghosts’ harassment and silently guarded everyone.
And there was Betty, the sole healer of the clan, who had saved lives and healed the wounded on numerous occasions, bringing health back to the unfortunate Red People.
Currently, these four were engaged in a discussion regarding a momentous decision that concerned all the Red People. The outcome of their deliberation would shape the future destiny of everyone present.
Surrounded by countless Red People, Ji Xiaoyu, Su Hong, and Su Yue wore strange expressions as they looked at the only true native in front of them.
Just as Yu Zhun had guessed, after the initial confusion of entering the Dungeon, they had also realized the truth behind their role-playing situation.
When they first arrived, they were still searching for traces of their other three companions. However, after a brief exchange, they realized that the other half of their party was waiting for them at the final destination of this journey.
Before they could communicate further, Patriarch Lomon approached them to discuss a decision that affected all the Red People.
Fortunately, their starting position matched the conventional clearance route, making the upcoming storyline relatively clear.
"In short, we cannot go on like this." Completely unaware that the other three most important figures in the clan had been replaced by players, Patriarch Lomon spoke with heavy solemnity written all over his aged face. "Mr. Enrufe, the Great City Lord of Red Cloud City, is nearing the end of his lifespan.
"In the past, our ability to conduct simple trades with Red Cloud City relied entirely on this gentleman’s leniency.
"If, after his passing, the newly appointed City Lord is unwilling to maintain ties with us, we won’t be able to sustain the livelihoods of so many people with the pitifully scarce food in the wasteland.
"When that time comes, the number of surviving Red People will plummet sharply. Under extreme starvation, tragedies of cannibalism might even occur. Our only option is to fight with our lives on the line.
"We must seek out the Lake of Purity, give it our all, and kill the Red Ghost commander entrenched there.
"If we want to survive, we must enter Red Cloud City!
"So, what are your thoughts?" Lomon asked, looking at the three silent players.
"I support this decision," Ji Xiaoyu slowly nodded.
"We do too," Su Hong and Su Yue nodded in agreement.
Surprised that his proposal received a unanimous vote, and that even the usually eccentric Wizard Tina didn’t voice any objections, Lomon nearly wept tears of joy. "This... this is wonderful!
"I will announce this decision to everyone right away. While Mr. Enrufe, the Great City Lord, is still alive, we must drink the water from the Lake of Purity and enter Red Cloud City as soon as possible!"
Soon, Lomon loudly broadcasted the decision to the entire clan.
Amidst the crowd’s cheers, Ji Xiaoyu and the other two quietly gathered and began to converse in hushed tones.
"Although the situation in the Dungeon has changed quite a bit, what we need to do should still be very clear," Ji Xiaoyu said, keeping her voice low. "Just like a normal clearance, we escort them to the Lake of Purity and then send them to Red Cloud City."
Su Hong and Su Yue nodded.
Even though they only had half their party, they didn’t feel much pressure about killing the boss, the Red Ghost commander.
A Warrior, a Mage, and a Priest were more than enough to form a complete combat unit.
The Red Ghost commander was merely a boss in a Permanent Dungeon; the First Turn trial would not grant it any additional stat enhancements.
Therefore, it couldn’t possibly be a match for three fully equipped players.
There was absolutely no need for Yu Zhun to intervene in this wave.
They could handle it themselves.
"Our side is relatively straightforward, but the Guild Leader and the others..." Su Hong frowned slightly. "They are inside the city. The content of their mission is probably completely different from the original strategy guide."
"Could it be related to what Patriarch Lomon just mentioned about the Great City Lord, Enrufe, nearing the end of his life?" Su Yue whispered. "Normally, a new City Lord taking office would involve some turbulence."
"It’s possible." Ji Xiaoyu revealed a thoughtful expression. "The Red People were originally accustomed to their current lives and were unwilling to face the extremely dangerous Red Ghost commander. It was the sense of crisis brought on by the impending death of the Great City Lord that forced them to make a change.
"This point is mentioned in the Dungeon’s documentation.
"Therefore, Enrufe’s impending death is the catalyst. While it causes changes outside the city, it could simultaneously trigger changes inside the city.
"It’s just a pity... we know almost nothing about the storyline inside the city."
Even though Yu Zhun had achieved perfect first clearances multiple times before, those were accomplished with knowledge of the Dungeons’ public information.
With almost no information this time, could Yu Zhun still pull off a miracle?
At this thought, Ji Xiaoyu couldn’t help but pick up her Communication Button.
Meanwhile, in an empty alleyway elsewhere in Red Cloud City.
Two men wearing hats, their brims pulled low to obscure the upper halves of their faces in the dim alley, were holding a secret rendezvous.
"Von Lohr, you are the most outstanding core member of our Wild Grass Society," the taller man said slowly. "Your role in this mission is of utmost importance.
"Tomorrow is Red Cloud City’s annual City Celebration Day. Aside from the Great City Lord, Enrufe, who has been bedridden for months, all the upper echelons of Red Cloud City will be in attendance to celebrate with the citizens.
"I need you to use your expertise to create some chaos and a disturbance at the celebration."
Salas, who had taken over Von Lohr’s role, felt his mouth twitch violently. Was this guy kidding him? Did he hear that right? The man wanted him to cause a riot with all the top brass of Red Cloud City present? He was a Priest with absolutely zero damage output! Since when did he have this so-called expertise? If he got caught, he would be killed on the spot!
Forcibly suppressing the urge to curse, Salas lowered his voice. "Just me?"
"Of course not." The man opposite him shook his head slightly. "I’ve arranged a very capable partner for you."
With that, the man turned to look behind him and raised his voice slightly. "Come out!"
A petite silhouette emerged from the other end of the alley. Beneath her short gray hair, her eyes were as clear as red pomegranates. Her familiar, delicate features were as expressionless as always, causing Salas to nearly cry out in shock.
Sheila?! She was in his group?
Suddenly, Salas felt that they had this in the bag. He had witnessed this archer’s utterly brutal damage output with his own eyes on multiple occasions. It was safe to say she was not in the slightest bit inferior to their wealthy Vice Guild Leader.
It was just causing a little disturbance at the celebration! No problem at all!
"This is Selica, the most formidable sniper in Red Cloud City," the tall man introduced proudly. "Our Wild Grass Society paid a hefty price to hire her services."
The man’s expression suddenly turned serious, his voice dropping low once more. "Listen, Von Lohr. Creating a massive disruption at tomorrow’s celebration is merely the first step of the mission.
"The second step is the most crucial one.
"In the midst of the chaos, you must assassinate Seins, the Third City Lord!"
