Chapter 463: Chapter 143: Mother and Son Join Forces! Unbeatable

...

Let’s not dwell on how Lynch, in his Skeleton Squirrel form, could feel the suffocating softness pressing down on him. The point is, he did.

It was just that, with danger afoot, he didn’t dare make a move.

A moment later.

The sense of danger seemed to fade.

Lynch finally extended a claw and gave a light scratch. When he felt Shivana’s body tremble slightly, he didn’t dare use his Spiritual Power to communicate with her again, lest he be detected by the two powerful figures opposite them.

In that case, only one method remained.

’Master Shivana, I’m sorry...’

Lynch began to write with his claw. With every character he traced, Master Shivana’s body would involuntarily tremble.

To avoid having her slap him to death in a fit of rage and humiliation—rendering all his efforts pointless—he quickened his pace to convey his message:

"Master Shivana, whatever you do, don’t stop the Abyssal Priest Su Moyi and Frost Throat Hosen. Let them carry on with the sacrifice; I have a way to deal with it. Right, and to avoid tipping them off, you need to act furious, indignant, and absolutely unwilling to surrender, even in death... You also need to struggle in agony and act with even more finality... If you understand, press on me twice..."

Of course, he was kidding.

How could Lynch dare to ramble on for so many words on that... soft, pale surface?

He simply wrote two succinct sentences: "Don’t stop the sacrifice; I have a plan. Press me twice if you understand."

But even so, Shivana trembled and quaked uncontrollably...

Fortunately, she was quite intelligent. After grasping Lynch’s meaning, she reached up and pressed hard on her chest twice, nearly crushing the poor Skeleton Squirrel to death...

’Alright,’ Lynch thought. ’If Master Shivana weren’t considering the bigger picture, this poor little Skeleton Squirrel would have been reduced to dust by now...’

Next, it was time for Master Shivana’s performance.

She took a deep breath to compose herself, and in the next instant, a flame of desperate grief and fury ignited in her emerald eyes.

She snapped her head up, her voice suddenly shrill and piercing. "The Empire is invincible! Reinforcements from the Freedom Federation will arrive eventually, and they will avenge us! You lackeys of the Blue Scarf will be reduced to ash sooner or later!"

Frost Throat Hosen’s eyes narrowed, his expression turning hostile.

The members of the Blue Scarf, however, lacked his composure. Their faces twisted with anger at her curses, and they began to hurl abuse at Shivana Windrunner.

For a moment, the air was thick with vile profanities. If their leader, Hosen, hadn’t remained silent, they would have likely swarmed forward and hacked Shivana to pieces!

Shivana, however, paid them no mind.

She turned to the captive students, her voice filled with exasperated fury. "You useless lot, raise your heads! Don’t disgrace yourselves in front of the enemy! Remember, you are the elite of the Empire! Even in death, you will die on your feet!"

At her words, some students flushed with shame and gradually stopped their crying and pleading. Though terrified, they forced themselves to stand up straight.

Another group of students, however, came to despise Shivana for her words. ’Die on our feet? If we can live, who would choose to die!?’

This was especially true for some students from the Imperial Capital Academy, who were already on the verge of a mental breakdown. Unable to bear the provocation, they started screaming curses directly at Shivana.

’You think you’re so high and mighty... so impressive... You want to die on your feet, fine, but don’t drag us down with you!!’

They even tried to curry favor with the Blue Scarf by hurling insults at Shivana, hoping these bandits might spare their lives. As long as they could survive, they wouldn’t even hesitate to join the Blue Scarf themselves.

In this moment of life and death, the basest aspects of human nature were laid bare.

Masters Gwen and Lianna were also dumbfounded by the scene.

They didn’t quite understand why Shivana had suddenly become so agitated.

But before they could ponder it further, Shivana’s razor-sharp gaze fell upon them, her voice laced with a cold threat. "Gwen. Master Lianna. If you dare cling to life out of fear, don’t blame me for killing you myself! I, Shivana Windrunner, would rather die than join a band of brigands like the Blue Scarf."

Master Gwen was momentarily stunned, then broke into a carefree smile. "Excellent! That’s the Master Shivana I know. In that case, we’ll play the hero alongside you! Be it the Blue Scarf or this Abyssal Hunter, they’re nothing but insignificant clowns. They’ll all be reduced to ash sooner or later!"

Master Lianna was not as passionately defiant as the other two, but as a Holy Light Priest, surrender was never an option for her.

She clasped her hands to her chest, her expression pious as she began to softly recite the Holy Light Prayer. "Holy Light above, may Your brilliance illuminate the path before us... May purity and justice be with us always..."

Frost Throat Hosen watched this unfold, a look of clear surprise in his eyes.

From what he knew of Shivana Windrunner, the Elf Ranger had a gentle disposition. While she possessed a self-sacrificing spirit at her core, in a desperate situation like this, she would normally be more inclined to compromise to save her students’ lives.

But now, for some unknown reason, she was acting with such righteous indignation, as if she were a completely different person.

It didn’t matter that he couldn’t figure it out, because upon seeing this, the Abyssal Priest Su Moyi became instantly frenzied with excitement.

The countless eyeballs on her face blinked violently and erratically as a bloodcurdling shriek of a laugh bubbled up from deep in her throat. "Hahaha—good, very good, Shivana. I admire your indomitable spirit. In that case, Your Excellency Hosen, as per our agreement, these students are all mine."
