Chapter 459: Chapter 142: Two Mothers! A Big Job Is Here
By this time, the vast majority of students from the Imperial Capital Academy and Silver Moon Academy had completely thrown in the towel.
They spent all day holed up in the main camp, either playing cards and drinking or lying on the beach sunbathing, just waiting for time to run out so they could leave this place of bitter memories.
Only the students of Hurst Academy were still continuing their sweep.
Maurice, Eliot, and the others led their own small groups, sweeping across the island and eliminating the remaining Goblin Tribes and Fishman Tribes one by one.
Of course, there were some students from the other two academies who hadn’t given up, even on the final day of the assessment.
For example, there was Eleanor from the Imperial Capital Academy. The girl with the ice-blue ponytail was standing alone on a cliff, furiously bombarding the Fishman camp below. Her Frost Magic had turned the entire beach into a plain of ice.
As for Adora Carrot, she was rampaging through the jungle in her three-meter-tall alchemy Mecha, launching a few alchemical bombs whenever she encountered a Magical Beast. The incessant booming could be heard even back at the main camp.
On Silver Moon Academy’s side, students like Grims, Natalie, Frost Fang, and their top student, Ailendra Moon Language, were also scouring the island for monsters to hunt.
Even though they were far behind on points and had no chance of surpassing Hurst Academy, they hadn’t given up. They were still gritting their teeth and persevering. It was a matter of pride for these geniuses.
As for Lynch, he had long since stopped grinding for points with his classmates.
While his classmates were busy scrambling for resources, he wandered the island alone, exploring every nook and cranny like a leisurely tourist.
This island was meticulously maintained by Silver Moon Academy. ’Maybe I can actually find some good stuff here.’
After wandering for a few days, he had indeed made some discoveries.
He had gathered a few stalks of rare Shadow Moss and some Deep Sea Pearls, with a total value of around several thousand Gold Coins. Compared to his current fortune, it was better than nothing. Still, no gain is too small.
"About time to head back."
Lynch glanced at the darkening sky, drank the last of his mushroom and oyster soup, then stood up and brushed off his robes, preparing to return to the main camp.
’This time, I’ve more than completed my mentor’s mission. Not only did I secure first place in the joint exam, but I also gave the Imperial Capital Academy a resounding slap in the face. I suppose I didn’t let Tutor Annabella down.’
However, he had barely taken two steps.
Suddenly.
Disaster struck!
"WHOOOO—!!!"
A low, long horn blast suddenly echoed from across the sea. The sound was deeply unsettling, like the mournful cry of some great beast from the Deep Sea.
Lynch immediately turned to look out over the sea, his pupils instantly contracting.
There, on the horizon, a massive warship was cutting through the waves, heading toward them.
The warship was nearly the size of a third-class battleship, but its design was completely different from the ships of the Imperial Navy.
The hull of the warship was covered in dense runes that shimmered with an eerie light in the moonlight. The cannon at its bow was absurdly large, and it too was inscribed with many runes.
A flag depicting a storm hung from the mast, bearing the emblem of the Draenei Brotherhood.
On the deck, the shadowy figures of many sailors could be seen.
Among them were humans and goblins, but all the humans wore blue scarves covering their faces—another symbol of the Draenei Brotherhood.
Even more shockingly, the massive warship was escorted by dozens of smaller, faster boats.
The design of these smaller boats was even more peculiar. Their hulls were pieced together from giant shells and fish bones, and their sails were made of a translucent, membrane-like material. They looked nothing like human vessels.
That’s right—it was the signature ship design of the Sea Race, the Naga!
"The Abyssal Hunters!?" Lynch’s expression shifted.
’The Abyssal Hunters, one of the three great pirate organizations of the East Sea, led by the Naga Witch... they’ve actually joined forces with the Blue Scarf Rebel Army?!’
Before Lynch could react, the ridiculously large cannon on the bow of the *Storm* slowly raised its gaping black muzzle. The runes on its body lit up one after another, and then it unleashed a heaven-shaking roar.
"BOOM—!!!"
A cannonball tore through the night sky, trailing a long tail of fire as it rocketed straight toward the center of the camp!
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
The sentry in the watchtower, realizing something was wrong, frantically shouted a piercing warning. Simultaneously, another sentry blew the horn to signal an enemy attack.
But it was too late.
The descending cannonball was incredibly fast; in the blink of an eye, it was already above the camp.
Just as the cannonball was about to land.
Just then.
Shivana Windrunner, the Elf instructor guarding the main camp, suddenly burst from her tent. She leaped high, instantly appearing in the air above the encampment.
At some point, an emerald-green longbow had appeared in her hand. With her leap, her hand was already on the bowstring. She pulled back, drawing the bow to its limit in an instant, and just as quickly, let go.
In that instant, a brilliant Magic Arrow shot through the air and collided with the cannonball in mid-flight.
"BANG—!!!"
The cannonball exploded on impact, and a violent shockwave instantly radiated through the air.
Shivana grunted, a trickle of blood seeping from the corner of her mouth.
The runic cannonball’s damage possessed a Magic Attribute. In her haste, she hadn’t had time to sever her Spiritual Power connection to the arrow, and the explosive force of the impact traveled back along it as backlash, inflicting a minor injury.
Fortunately, she had stopped the massive projectile. If it had struck the main camp, it would have undoubtedly caused significant casualties.
