Chapter 279 - 105: Official Name Shen Shiyu, Nickname Zhaozhao
"What? A son?"
When the nurse brought the baby out and announced the gender, Shen Yanzhi suspected for a moment that she might have brought out the wrong baby.
’How could it be a son?’
’Shouldn’t it be a daughter?’
The nurse offered the baby. "That’s right, a son. Seven and a half pounds. He’s a very healthy little treasure."
Shen Yanzhi didn’t reach out to take him. Instead, he stepped aside. "What about my wife? When is she coming out?"
Seeing this, the nurse handed the baby to Jiang Manshu.
Although Jiang Manshu was also a little disappointed, she still reached out and took him.
He was fair and chubby, his big eyes darting around curiously. He looked absolutely adorable.
She was about to coo at him, but then she realized the baby didn’t even have a name.
She cleared her throat and asked, "By the way, have you thought of a name for a boy?"
Shen Yanzhi had been so dead set on having a daughter that he hadn’t considered any names for a boy.
But then he remembered Jiang Manshu mentioning Shen Shuyao before, so Shen Yanzhi replied, "Let’s just call him Shen Shuyang."
Jiang Manshu asked tentatively, "Are you sure you don’t want to discuss it with Xiao Li?"
After all, Jiang Li was in pain for so long to have this child. You should at least let her have some say in it.
Even Jing Shiyun chimed in, "I agree, the baby’s name shouldn’t be decided so carelessly."
Although the name sounded alright, she felt it was a bit feminine.
Jiang Manshu held the baby out to Jing Shiyun. "Sister Yun, do you want to hold him?"
Jing Shiyun clumsily took the baby in her arms. But the little guy seemed to know this was his grandma, and he beamed at Jing Shiyun, completely melting her heart.
Jing Shiyun’s face lit up with a brilliant smile. "Grandma’s good little treasure."
A short while later, Jiang Li was wheeled out by a nurse.
Her face was still beaded with sweat, her hair stuck to her forehead, and her complexion was a little pale. She looked a bit of a mess.
Shen Yanzhi’s eyes reddened again. He reached out and took Jiang Li’s hand. "Honey, you’ve worked so hard."
The epidural probably hadn’t worn off yet, because Jiang Li didn’t feel any pain.
But she didn’t see the baby and couldn’t help but ask, "Where’s the baby?"
Jing Shiyun immediately brought the baby over. "Right here."
Jiang Li’s eyes shifted to Shen Yanzhi. She narrowed them and asked coldly, "So, you didn’t hold him because you’re disappointed he’s a boy?"
Shen Yanzhi scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "It’s not that I’m disappointed... I was just worried about you, so I didn’t even notice our son."
Although Shen Yanzhi’s explanation was a bit of a stretch, Jiang Li grudgingly accepted it.
After all, when the nurse told her she’d had a son, her first reaction had also been disappointment.
’Why did it have to be a son?’
She was suddenly reminded of a saying she’d seen online.
In an era that prized boys over girls, I was born.
In an era that prizes girls over boys, I gave birth to a son.
For the longest time, she had only thought of names for a girl; not a single one for a boy.
The group followed the nurse into the VIP room. After they helped move Jiang Li onto the hospital bed, she finally asked, "So, have you thought of a name for the baby?"
Shen Yanzhi rubbed his nose. "I originally suggested Shen Shuyang, but Mom said we should discuss it with you."
Jiang Li immediately rolled her eyes. "Seriously? You’ve read so many books, how could you come up with a name like that?"
"It clearly sounds like a girl’s name."
"I know you really wanted a daughter, but he’s a boy, for goodness’ sake. The name can’t be too feminine."
Shen Yanzhi was scolded into silence, thinking to himself, ’Well, wasn’t it just to make things easy?’
Finally, under Jiang Manshu’s displeased gaze, he turned to Jiang Li and asked, "Then what name do you think would be good?"
Jiang Li gave it some serious thought. "How about Shen Shiyu?"
She then explained the meaning behind it. "Time, serene; tranquil, like an islet. Gentle and reserved, with a pure disposition."
Jiang Manshu immediately clapped her hands in approval. "What a great name!"
’Shen Shiyu... that’s so much better than that Shen Shuyang name Shen Yanzhi just came up with.’
Shen Yugang nodded. "It is indeed a good name."
Jing Shiyun also agreed wholeheartedly. "But what about a nickname? He needs a nickname! What should it be?"
Jiang Li thought for a moment, then replied, "Let’s call him Xiao Jiu for his nickname. He was born in September, the ninth month, so it’s commemorative."
Shen Yanzhi asked tentatively, "How about Zhaozhao for his nickname?"
Jiang Li looked at Shen Yanzhi suspiciously, wondering why he would suggest such a nickname.
After all, the baby’s name was Shen Shiyu; it had absolutely no connection to the name Zhaozhao.
Under everyone’s gaze, Shen Yanzhi slowly began to explain. "The name Zhaozhao is built on a character that means ’sunshine’ or ’brightness.’ It signifies being radiant and having a brilliant future. It also suggests a clear mind, someone who can tell right from wrong. Plus, we’re in the season where the sun is said to shine its brightest, so it fits his birthday perfectly."
