Once everyone had left, Jiang Li rubbed her belly. "Want to go for a walk? I feel a little stuffed."

She’d eaten a little too much, mostly because it had been a long time since she’d felt so relaxed.

Shen Yanzhi reached out to support Jiang Li. "Let’s go."

They didn’t go far, just to the back garden.

The back garden had originally been planted with only roses, but Shen Yanzhi had since added climbing roses, Chinese roses, and hydrangeas.

He had a staff member turn on the garden lights, and the once pitch-black space was instantly as bright as day.

Jiang Li was stunned by the sight. She had imagined it would be beautiful, but she’d never expected it to be *this* beautiful.

Colorful blossoms vied for attention, each unfurling in its most splendid form.

A faint, sweet fragrance immediately wafted over. Jiang Li took a deep breath, a sense of pure delight washing over her.

She gently caressed a climbing rose and looked at Shen Yanzhi. "You know, I have to admit, it’s gorgeous."

Shen Yanzhi had told her he was planting them, but she hadn’t paid it much mind at the time.

But now, only a few months later, he had surprised her with a whole sea of flowers.

A faint smile touched Shen Yanzhi’s lips. "I’m glad you like it."

’It was worth the high cost of air-freighting them in, then.’

He had bought nothing but year-round flowers, all of them rare varieties, just to give Jiang Li a beautiful ocean of blossoms.

He had even managed to collect roses in every possible color.

Jiang Li glanced around, her eyes filled with delight. "I love it."

The two of them strolled through the profusion of flowers. But as they walked, Jiang Li suddenly felt a warm gush run down her thigh.

She stopped in her tracks, grabbing Shen Yanzhi’s arm. Her voice trembled. "Honey, I think... I think I’m going into labor."

Shen Yanzhi’s eyes widened in shock. He immediately scooped Jiang Li into his arms and shouted, "Huawei, call Ms. Jiang."

The call connected almost instantly. "Hello?" Jiang Manshu said. "Yanzhi, what is it?"

Shen Yanzhi’s voice was strained with panic. "Mom, Xiao Li’s in labor! Call the hospital, quickly!"

"Okay," Jiang Manshu said at once. "I’m calling now."

Jiang Li managed a wry smile. "Good thing we already put the hospital bag and our paperwork in the trunk."

Shen Yanzhi’s eyes were red-rimmed, and he didn’t even dare to look down at her. "How are you? Are you doing okay?"

Jiang Li let out a ragged breath. "I’m okay."

Shen Yanzhi picked up his pace, rushing for the elevator. On the way, he called Xu Shijie and told him to come down and get the car.

They arrived at the hospital about ten minutes later. Jiang Li’s hair was matted with sweat, her face contorted in pain.

’No one told me giving birth would be this painful!’

After an examination, the doctor asked, "She’s only dilated to three centimeters. Do you want to start Pitocin now?"

Jiang Li gripped Shen Yanzhi’s arm. "I want a C-section!"

’It hurts this much at just three centimeters? If I wait until I’m fully dilated, the pain is going to kill me!’

"But you have to fast for eight hours before a C-section."

’Eight hours!?!’

’We just had barbecue less than an hour ago! If I wait eight hours, it’ll be too late for anything!’

Jiang Li’s face went pale. She said with great difficulty, "Then give me the Pitocin. And the epidural."

"Okay."

His heart ached seeing Jiang Li in so much pain. He gently kissed her forehead. "We’re just having this one. We are definitely not having any more after this."

But to his surprise, Jiang Li shook her head. "No way. My parents only had me, and I was always so lonely as a kid. Besides, with genes as good as ours, having just one would be a terrible waste."

’He actually had been thinking about it. Once the baby was born, he was going to get a vasectomy so they wouldn’t have any more.’

’This was just too much of an ordeal. He didn’t want Jiang Li to ever go through it again.’

After the Pitocin and the epidural, the pain vanished instantly. Jiang Li felt like she could hike a mile.

On September 18th, at 11:22 PM, the baby was born with a healthy cry.
