Jiang Li took two steps to the side. Otherwise, she was afraid she’d laugh out loud.

After all, this was the first time she had seen Shen Yanzhi spouting nonsense with such a straight face, and it was quite amusing.

After recapping the incident for the police, Shen Yanzhi hung up and said cautiously, "They say if you’re going to put on a show, you have to go all the way. Since we’ve already called the police, we have to go to the hospital."

Otherwise, it would be filing a false report.

Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. "That’s simple enough. We’ll just go to Kyoto Hospital."

With that, she waved a hand. "Let’s go. We’ll head over first, and we can have Wei take a taxi."

Once in the car, she immediately called the hospital director. "Director, I’m very sorry to bother you this late."

Hearing Jiang Li’s voice, the director, who had been dreaming, was instantly wide awake. He said fawningly, "It’s no bother, no bother at all."

He shot up straight in bed. "President Jiang, is there something I can do for you?"

"It’s nothing major. I’m just on my way to the hospital, and I need you to find a doctor you trust. They just need to cooperate with me."

The director was stunned. He hadn’t expected a call from Jiang Li in the middle of the night to be about something like this.

He was still processing when Jiang Li cleared her throat twice, prompting him to reply, "Yes, of course. No problem."

"If there’s nothing else, you can go back to sleep. Just have the doctor meet us at the hospital entrance."

Jiang Li put her phone aside and stretched. "Alright, everything’s foolproof now."

Shen Yanzhi frowned. "Still, going to the hospital during the New Year is a bad omen."

Jiang Li waved her hand dismissively. "Don’t be so superstitious."

"Besides, we aren’t the only ones going to the hospital during the New Year. Does that mean things are going badly for everyone else, too?"

Shen Yanzhi was rendered speechless. Thinking about what had just happened, he said, full of self-reproach, "I never should have walked away."

Jiang Li spread her hands helplessly. "Who could have predicted something like this would happen?"

Afraid that Shen Yanzhi would continue to blame himself, Jiang Li quickly changed the subject. "But speaking of which, shouldn’t you learn some self-defense?"

Jiang Li didn’t even need to say it; Shen Yanzhi already had the same idea. "I’ll go right after the New Year holiday."

Jiang Li nodded. "That works."

After all, many places were closed for the holiday, and waiting a few more days wouldn’t make a difference.

’Anyway, with Xu Shijie and the others around, we can just stay home for a while if we have to.’

When they arrived at the hospital, a doctor and nurses were already waiting at the entrance with a gurney.

The moment Shen Yanzhi’s car came to a stop, the group rushed over.

Jiang Li remained "unconscious," mainly because she was afraid one of the nurses might let the cat out of the bag.

"What’s the patient’s condition?"

Shen Yanzhi: "My wife is a little over a month pregnant. She was frightened at a shop just now and passed out."

"Understood. Let’s start with a routine checkup."

Jiang Li felt herself being lifted onto the gurney. There was a RUMBLING sound, and the ride was even a little bumpy.

’I’ll have to get these gurneys upgraded at some point. They should at least have shock absorbers.’

She wasn’t sure how long it had been before the gurney finally stopped. Then she heard an unfamiliar male voice say, "You can all step outside. I’ll examine the patient first."

The next second, she heard the man say, "President Jiang, you can open your eyes now."

Hearing this, Jiang Li opened her eyes. The man standing before her wore a white lab coat and black-framed glasses and appeared to be in his thirties.

But before Jiang Li could get a clear look at the doctor’s face, Shen Yanzhi blocked her view with his body.

Jiang Li gave a helpless little laugh and reached out to take Shen Yanzhi’s hand.

Shen Yanzhi raised an eyebrow, secretly pleased, and interlocked his fingers with hers.

Jiang Li sat up, leaning against Shen Yanzhi, and looked at the doctor. "Listen carefully to what I’m about to say, because the police might come by later."

"Just now at a hot pot restaurant, a man hit on me. Not only did he insult me, but he also brought his cronies to attack us, and they were clearly bad news."

"I consulted a lawyer. To make them pay for this, my best bet is to play up the injury, which is why I’m resorting to this desperate measure."

The doctor nodded in understanding. "So, what you need from me is to make your medical report look a little more serious?"

"If possible, keep me asleep."

The doctor frowned. "But you’re pregnant. We can’t use those kinds of drugs on you. I’m afraid it could harm the fetus."

Jiang Li thought of the Sleep Card she had received from a favorability lottery not long ago. At the time, she’d thought it was completely useless, but now, it seemed like a godsend.

Using the card could put someone to sleep for 72 hours with no side effects whatsoever.
