Chapter 261 - 99: Sentencing and Late-night Snack

"A situation like this is generally classified as either a public order violation or a criminal offense."

"You just mentioned you’re pregnant. Given the circumstances, what they did qualifies as ’picking quarrels and provoking trouble.’ At the very least, that means ten to fifteen days of detention and a fine of under 2,000."

Jiang Li pressed her lips together. "The thing is, that group of guys didn’t look like ordinary people. You could tell at a glance they were street thugs. Can’t they get a heavier sentence?"

"A heavier sentence would make it a criminal offense. Repeatedly gathering to cause a serious disturbance of public order carries a sentence of five to ten years."

Jiang Li hadn’t actually been thinking of five or ten years. She just felt that a mere ten days or so was too short. These people deserved to be locked up for longer.

She coughed lightly. "Is there anything a little... shorter than that?"

Jiang Yuemo was stunned for a moment. She had thought Jiang Li would find five to ten years too short, but it turned out she thought it was too long.

After a moment of thought, she replied in a very serious and responsible tone, "A shorter option would be the crime of insult. If their words caused you to have a mental breakdown or severely impacted your life, it’s a guaranteed three years."

Jiang Li’s eyes lit up. ’This is perfect.’

’I’m a pregnant woman. It’s completely understandable for me to have a mental breakdown over what those men said, right?!’

She snapped her fingers. "Alright, thanks, Jiang Lv. If this goes to court, I’ll have to trouble you again."

She had originally planned to transfer some money to Jiang Yuemo, but then she remembered that lawyers don’t accept private payments. Instead, she decided to have Liu Qian hire Jiang Yuemo as a legal consultant.

After all, aside from making money in court, lawyers can earn even more by acting as legal consultants.

Although the company hadn’t gone public yet, she believed that as long as it was human-centric enough, she wouldn’t even have to try that hard. Her employees would get the company on the right track themselves.

After hanging up, she shot Shen Yanzhi a conspiratorial look. Before he could react, she closed her eyes and collapsed right into his arms.

Shen Yanzhi immediately caught her, his face contorted in rage as he glared at the group of men on the floor. "I’m telling you, my wife is pregnant! If anything happens to her, not a single one of you is getting away with this."

He then looked at Xu Shijie, who was standing to the side, and ordered, "Xu, record every one of them."

Xu Shijie nodded, pulled his phone out of his pocket, and started recording them one by one.

Anyone who didn’t cooperate got a few more punches for their trouble.

Once Xu Shijie was done recording, Shen Yanzhi scooped Jiang Li up into his arms and even gave her a little jostle.

The moment they were out of the restaurant, Jiang Li’s eyes popped open. "It’s a shame I didn’t get to eat any hot pot," she said with a hint of regret.

Shen Yanzhi said, amused, "If you think you’re up for it, we can have Wei go pack some to-go."

If Jiang Li hadn’t secretly tugged on his sleeve just now, he would have really thought she had passed out.

Heaven knows how scared he was when he saw her faint. He had even wanted to rush her to the hospital immediately.

Jiang Li’s eyes lit up. "You know, that’s actually a great idea."

She turned to Wei Chuan. "Wei, go get us some takeout."

Afraid Wei Chuan wouldn’t understand, she added specific instructions, "Pack up all the raw ingredients—don’t cook them—and get some of the soup base, too."

Wei Chuan made an "OK" sign and headed back into the hot pot restaurant.

Jiang Li patted Shen Yanzhi’s shoulder. "Hey, you can put me down now. I’m afraid you’ll accidentally drop me if you keep carrying me like this."

It was only because she was carrying a baby in her belly. If she weren’t pregnant, she wouldn’t care how Shen Yanzhi carried her.

Shen Yanzhi raised an eyebrow. "Is that a lack of confidence in me, or a lack of confidence in your own weight?"

Jiang Li shook her head and gently patted her stomach. "I have a lack of confidence in your baby."

Hearing this, Shen Yanzhi glanced at Jiang Li’s stomach and finally let her down.

He glanced at his watch. It was almost one o’clock.

He couldn’t help but ask, "Should we wait for him, or head back first?"

Jiang Li replied without hesitation, "Let’s wait for him."

They only had two cars between them. If she and Shen Yanzhi left first, Wei Chuan would have to take a taxi.

But taxis weren’t allowed inside their gated community, so he’d have to walk in.

After what had just happened, she didn’t dare walk alone with just Shen Yanzhi anymore.

What if they ran into another one of those "supermales"?

She definitely didn’t want to go through something like that a second time, especially during the New Year’s holiday.

A thought struck her, and she said suddenly, "Oh, right. We have to call the police, or we won’t have any evidence."

Shen Yanzhi immediately pulled out his phone. As soon as the call connected, he said, "Hello, Officer? I need to file a report."
