Leon followed the Elder out of the pavilion. They left the bustling center of the village and walked toward the towering, sheer cliff face at the rear of the valley. Carved directly into the side of the mountain was a massive, imposing structure. It was a temple, but not one of stone or wood. The entire facade was constructed from impossibly clear, unmelting glacial ice.

The temperature plummeted the moment they stepped through the massive archway. The air grew so cold that Leon’s breath plumed into thick, white clouds. Absolute Adaptation flared instantly, warming his blood to counter the absolute zero environment, but even with his 165 Constitution, he could feel the biting chill of the ancient magic pressing against his skin.

The interior of the temple was a vast, cavernous dome illuminated by the pale blue light of glowing frost-crystals embedded in the walls.

In the center of the chamber, resting upon a massive dais of solid permafrost, was the dragon.

Leon stopped dead in his tracks.

It was a creature of breathtaking, terrifying beauty. It was smaller than the Aether-Coatl, but far more heavily armored. Its scales were jagged, crystalline plates of pure, icy silver and deep sapphire, shimmering with an inner, freezing light. Two massive, swept-back horns crowned its angular, predatory head, and its wings, folded tightly against its sides, looked like they were forged from sharpened glass.

It was fast asleep, its massive chest rising and falling in a slow, rhythmic slumber that sent pulses of freezing air sweeping through the temple.

"This is Auris, the Glacial Sovereign," Elder Vaelen whispered reverently, his breath misting in the air. "He has slumbered here since the founding of our village, waiting for a soul strong enough to bear the weight of his contract. Many of our greatest warriors have touched his scales. All were found wanting, their bodies frozen solid by his passive aura."

"And you think I can survive the contract," Leon stated, his Origin Eyes analyzing the massive, dense core of ice-elemental mana burning within the sleeping beast’s chest.

"You are the Chosen Hero," Vaelen said simply. "The rites are ancient, but simple. You must offer your blood, channel your raw mana into his core, and lay your hand upon the Sovereign’s crest. If he accepts you, your souls will bind. If he rejects you... you will become a statue of ice, standing vigil with him for eternity."

Leon stared at the dragon, but he didn’t hesitate. He stepped up onto the permafrost dais. The cold was agonizing now, actively trying to crystallize the moisture in his eyes, but he pushed forward. He drew the Bloodfang Edge and pressed the razor-sharp silver blade against his own palm. He sliced deep, allowing the rich, red blood to well up.

He walked to the massive, slumbering head of the dragon.

Leon channeled his immense, 195-Intelligence mana pool, forcing his energy into his bleeding hand. His palm began to glow with a blinding, golden light.

He reached out and firmly pressed his bleeding, mana-infused hand directly against the jagged, icy crest on the dragon’s forehead.

For a fraction of a second, nothing happened.

Then, Auris’s eyes snapped open.

They were pools of liquid, glowing cyan. The dragon didn’t roar. Instead, a shockwave of pure draconic energy erupted from its body, slamming into Leon. The sheer force of the soul-connection bridged the gap between them, merging human and beast in a chaotic vortex of magic and ice.

[Do you accept this Soul-Contract?]

[Yes / No]

"Yes," Leon said, the freezing energy failing to overwhelm his Perfect Body.

The moment he confirmed, the icy blue light consuming the temple violently shifted into a blinding, ethereal gold.

[Soul-Contract Established.]

Auris let out a deafening, majestic roar that shook the very foundations of the frozen temple, acknowledging his new master. But the ritual wasn’t over. The draconic aura didn’t just bind them; it swept completely through Leon’s physical vessel, forcefully evolving his equipment and appearance to match the resonance.

Leon felt his Fanghide Battleplate and the Sovereign’s Mantle unweaving and re-knitting themselves.

When the light faded, Leon Wes had been transformed.

He stood before the massive dragon, completely reinvented by the system. He was now clad in dark, masterfully tailored black garments, heavily embroidered with intricate, swirling golden draconic patterns. The new armor hugged his lean, powerful physique, featuring heavy golden belts, ornate brass clasps, and reinforced leather bracers wrapped in gilded metal.

A dark, heavy hood lined with golden runic script rested effortlessly over his head. Beneath the hood, his hair had wildly mutated from the draconic resonance, turning into a striking duality of jet-black and snow-white.

But it was his face that bore the true mark of the bond. His eyes, once a uniform color, now blazed with terrifying heterochromia—his right eye a piercing, icy blue mirroring the dragon, and his left eye burning with the golden light of his SSS-Rank Origin Eyes. A faint, jagged black mark rested beneath his blue eye, a physical manifestation of the contract’s seal.

He looked like a god of the night, serene, calculating, and impossibly dangerous.

And then, his right hand suddenly felt unbearably heavy.

The Bloodfang Edge, his trusty silver sword, had completely dissolved during the resonance. In its place, clutched in his leather-gloved hand, was a new weapon.

It was a massive, beautifully forged greatsword. The blade was dark, etched with swirling, ethereal golden filigree that pulsed like a heartbeat. But it wasn’t just metal. The entire length of the blade was wreathed in violent, twisting ethereal golden flames that cast chaotic, dancing shadows across the frozen walls of the temple.

Leon raised the massive weapon effortlessly, his 145 Strength making the colossal blade feel like an extension of his own arm.

Leon stared at the flaming golden sword, the sheer heat radiating from the blade perfectly combating the absolute zero temperature of the temple. He looked up at Auris, the massive Glacial Sovereign bowing its jagged, icy head in a gesture of absolute loyalty.

Before Leon could even process the magnitude of the power up, the system interface exploded into a flurry of blinding notifications.

Elder Vaelen, watching from the edge of the dais, fell to his knees once more, tears freezing on his scaled cheeks as he beheld the transformation.

Leon Wes stood in the center of the frozen temple, his dual-colored eyes glowing beneath his dark hood, the flaming golden sword illuminating the ice. He was never just a player surviving the cycle. He was an Adept. He was the Vanguard.

And now, he had his dragon.
