Chapter 819 - 817: Candy Half-Asleep

"You really are a little genius of logic."

"Brother, just tell me, isn’t 1-1 equal to Zero?"

"How can it be the same?"

Looking at her brother’s glaring eyes, Candy pursed her lips. Though she was not convinced, she no longer had the same momentum as before.

After all, without her brother’s permission, even if she sneaked off to the basement supermarket alone, the cashier wouldn’t hand her a cola.

"Hmph~ If it’s chicken soup, then chicken soup it is. Why be so fierce?"

After the meal, the iron lump produced by the millions worth of CNC machine tools was ultimately carried back to the office by Zero. Mo Jingchun didn’t want it, and Candy couldn’t carry it.

Watching Zero skillfully toss the little boat from left hand to right hand, then back again, Candy was quite envious.

This little arm could probably make her brother hurt for days if it hit him, Candy imagined in her mind.

"Ouch."

Candy rubbed her head, glaring fiercely at her brother.

"What are you looking at? Are you going to take an afternoon nap?"

"Of course I am!"

Outside, it’s raining — this kind of weather is really comfortable for sleeping. The best part about sleeping is not having to do homework, hehe.

Covered comfortably with her quilt, Candy poked her head out and looked at her brother in confusion, asking, "Brother, aren’t you sleeping?"

"You go ahead and sleep. I have work to do; I’ll nap on the sofa later."

"Oh~"

Closing the door, the whole world became quiet. As Zero drew the curtains, the bedroom was bathed in darkness.

Outside, Mo Jingchun sat at the office desk, glancing at the little boat model beside the keyboard, Mo Jingchun’s mouth twitched.

"You know you should at least use alloy materials. This iron is heavy, but that’s not the point — it rusts easily. What’s the use?"

"Boss, you could give it to Uncle to sell as scrap iron."

Giving it to Uncle to sell as scrap iron... Mo Jingchun helplessly rubbed his forehead and said, "When it rusts someday, we’ll give it to Uncle. I’m sure he’ll like it."

This lump of iron, if sold, could at least be exchanged for a pack of cigarettes, not particularly bad ones either — Uncle would definitely be pleased.

...

Groggily opening her eyes, Candy yawned, seeing that it wasn’t yet light outside. She closed her eyes, changed her position, and went back to sleep. The moment Zero was about to open the curtains was quickly undone.

Inside the second laboratory building, Zero scratched his head in confusion. She’s been asleep for two hours already, how can she wake up and then fall asleep again? Candy did go to bed on time last night — could it be because it’s raining today?

Couldn’t figure it out.

"What’s up?"

"Candy woke up and fell asleep again."

Mo Jingchun thought it was something major, but turns out it was just this.

"Let her sleep, she’s got nothing to do anyway. Better than her running out to play in the water."

As everyone’s discussion seemed to wrap up, Mo Jingchun stood up and walked to the front, taking up the microphone, smiling broadly as he announced:

"Everyone, let me share some good news with you. After adjustments by professionals, the CNC machine tools can be put into use now."

Instantly, the crowd below cheered.

Various research groups were only waiting for the CNC machine tools to produce components for real testing; after all, no matter how realistic the supercomputer simulations are, they’re not real — only practice is the ultimate test of truth.

"Those needing the CNC machine tools can now start making reservations through the internal software queue."

Below the stage, Zero pouted, opening up a dedicated reservation channel immediately. The boss, not even giving any prior notice.

"Back to the office."

Upon hearing this, Zero hurriedly followed.

Walking out of the second laboratory building, Mo Jingchun realized the rain had somehow stopped, and a golden sun hung in the west. Clearing up after the rain, though unfortunately without a rainbow.

The office was quiet, neither the dog nor the cat were causing any trouble, each was sleeping soundly.

As Mo Jingchun entered the office, Little Grey half-opened her eyes to glance and then closed them again, not to mention Bun, who wouldn’t be disturbed by even thunder while napping deeply.

"Is Candy still asleep?"

"Uh-huh, should I wake her?"

Mo Jingchun shook his head with a smile, "What’s the point? Let her sleep. Tonight, let Candy watch an extra hour of animation."

In the evening, Zhou Yaling walked into the bedroom, pulled open the curtains, and patted the quilt.

"Wake up, it’s late, still sleeping."

Candy opened her eyes in confusion and looked out the window, where it was dimly lit, clearly still early.

"Sister, it just got light, I can sleep a bit longer."

Zhou Yaling’s mouth twitched slightly; the child was indulged by her elder brother — look at her completely disoriented, unable to distinguish day from night.

Seeing Candy preparing to continue sleeping, Zhou Yaling pulled her up.

"It’s early, huh? It’s evening now, you slept all afternoon. How can you get more confused the more you sleep?"

With Candy’s brain unable to process immediately, she was stunned for quite a while. Her memories of today finally surfaced, indeed... she did take a nap.

"Sister, what’s the time?"

"What’s the time? It’s already six o’clock."

"What?" said Candy hurriedly as she dressed with concern, "Where’s brother? Brother didn’t run off alone, did he?"

"No, he didn’t."

Watching Candy dress herself, Zhou Yaling smiled and said, "I heard from your brother, is that little boat on the table yours?"

"Little boat?"

"Oh~ Sis, you mean that iron lump, huh. Hmph, that’s proof of Zero messing with me."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yaling smiled but didn’t speak, having figured out how the little boat came to be long ago.

At night, just as everyone guessed, Candy was super energetic, without any sleepiness.

Before heading up, Mo Jingchun approved the special privilege to watch an extra hour of animation tonight.

Thus, by the time she had finished her bath upstairs and was crawling onto the soft bed, it was already eleven at night, but Candy still had no intention of sleeping.

In the pink and warm room, Candy and Zero stared at each other — Mo Jingchun had taken away their phones, so the two little ones really didn’t know what to do.

"Can’t sleep."

"Doesn’t matter, I don’t need sleep, I can stay with you."

"No fun things to do."

"How about I tell you a story?"

Candy thought for a moment — besides listening to a story, there really seemed to be nothing entertaining.

"Sure!" Candy nodded, saying seriously, "But I want to hear a ghost story."

Bedtime ghost story, alrighty then.

Zero paused for a moment before saying eerily, "I’m worried you’re less brave, and you’ll cry in fear and not dare to sleep later."

Hearing this, Candy was unconvinced.

Patting her chest, Candy confidently said, "Kidding me, classmates all say I’m brave — afraid of ghost stories? Zero, we must believe in science!"

"Ha ha~ Alright, get ready, the ghost story is coming."

......

"Thump~ thump~ thump~"

"It’s searching, where’s my head, is it under the bed~"

With Zero mimicking those eerily realistic sounds, Candy was immersed in the scene, grabbing the quilt and trembling in fear.
