When Lightning Paralyzed a Calamity Boss

Entire towns could be destroyed.

Hence the name.

"A Calamity Boss—capable of destroying city defenses."

Rias’s voice came through the observation hall as she watched the screen.

"A Level 30 Calamity Boss is already incredibly powerful. For these students, it’s absolutely terrifying."

The observers around her nodded.

"In past years, most students in Bellemont Province would focus on the middle zone for points."

"Those who dared to enter the inner zone were always the top figures from each city."

"President Rias is right."

Several observers chimed in.

"Leon is undoubtedly the most outstanding this year. Even Supreme Heaven University is determined to have him!"

"Exactly. Our university is also very eager to recruit him. My president said—at any cost. The pressure on me is enormous!"

Solaris spoke seriously.

He represented Supreme Heaven University, ranked first in the nation, so his back was naturally straight.

The other recruiters looked at him.

There was no doubt that Supreme Heaven University wanted Leon.

But now that Leon had already signed a Star-Grade Contract with Bellemont Martial University, recruiting him wouldn’t be simple.

One observer looked back toward the screen.

"Will Leon use the same strategy as previous years?"

"Yeah."

Another nodded.

"These Calamity bosses are too strong, so past students would use hit-and-run tactics. Since their intelligence is low, they could slowly wear them down and finish them off."

"Inner zone monsters drop Starlight when killed. When scores are within 20 points, whoever has more Starlight ranks higher."

"That’s the bonus reward for defeating inner zone bosses."

"So, strong students usually gather points in the middle zone first, then enter the inner zone to take down one or two Calamity bosses. Otherwise, they’d fall behind in the rankings."

The observers exchanged looks.

"This year is different."

Everyone’s attention returned to Leon.

"Leon’s team is so powerful—will he use the same strategy?"

Inside the hunting ground, a massive shadow slowly moved through the mountains.

The Cyclops had awakened.

Its body was extraordinarily massive.

Every inch of its pale body seemed carved from solid rock, yet a cold metallic luster covered its skin.

Its single eye was deep and hollow.

Sharp horns jutted from its head like swords piercing the sky.

Its arms were thick enough to crush trees.

Its hands were like two enormous hammers.

When its fingers tightened, the surrounding air seemed to shake.

Then the creature took one step forward.

[BOOM!]

The earth trembled.

Another step.

[BOOM!]

Loose stones jumped from the ground.

The surrounding trees shook violently.

A flock of small birds escaped from the distant forest.

The Cyclops lowered its enormous head.

Its single eye locked onto Leon’s group.

"So this is a Calamity Boss?"

Leon marveled inwardly.

"My first time seeing one!"

There was no fear in his eyes.

Only curiosity.

And excitement.

He looked toward Selena.

"Selena—give it everything you’ve got!"

Selena’s golden eyes brightened.

She nodded.

"Understood, darling."

She stepped forward.

The next moment—

She shot forward.

Her body became a white streak cutting through the mist.

"The beast-girl is attacking."

Someone outside gasped.

"Is she going for a direct assault?"

"No strategy at all?!"

"Hiss—Bellemont Province has produced a real oddball this year!"

"This is going to be interesting."

An observer leaned closer to the screen.

"The Cyclops may not be the strongest in the inner zone—but it has the most control skills. This recklessness will cost her."

Inside the hunting ground, Selena continued forward.

The wind screamed around her.

Her silver-white hair streamed behind her.

The ground beneath her feet cracked from the force of each step.

The Cyclops raised one enormous arm.

Its muscles tightened.

A terrifying force gathered around its fist.

It intended to smash Selena out of the sky.

Leon watched calmly.

He didn’t interfere.

He trusted her.

Selena had already become vastly stronger during their time in the hunting ground.

This was exactly the kind of opponent she needed.

The distance between them rapidly closed.

Ten meters.

Five meters.

Three meters.

The Cyclops swung its massive fist.

The air exploded.

[BOOM!]

Selena suddenly twisted her body.

The fist passed beside her.

The shockwave blew her long hair backward.

She didn’t retreat.

Instead, she raised one hand.

Lightning gathered around her fingertips.

The sound of thunder rolled across the mountains.

Then Selena’s eyes flashed gold.

[Sacred Beast Skill · Thunder Blade]

[Activate!]

In an instant, Selena’s body was wreathed in lightning—as if she had gathered the most violent thunderous power in the world.

Purple-white lightning wrapped around her arm.

The surrounding mist was illuminated.

The Cyclops’s enormous eye widened.

Selena slashed forward.

A furious bolt of lightning erupted from her claws, streaking across the Cyclops’s chest like a blade.

[BOOM!]

The deafening thunder shook the surrounding trees, as if heaven and earth themselves were trembling.

Lightning exploded across the Cyclops’s body.

Its massive frame was thrown backward.

But before it could fall—

The lightning surged again.

Crackling arcs crawled across its arms, shoulders, and chest.

The Cyclops’s muscles suddenly locked.

Its enormous body froze in place.

The single eye remained open.

Its raised fist stopped halfway through the air.

For several seconds, the terrifying Calamity Boss couldn’t move.

The observers stared at the screen.

Nobody spoke.

Then someone finally whispered—

"Is it... controlled?!"

"That’s impossible!"

Another observer stood up in shock.

"Large creatures have absurdly high toughness! How did her beast-soul skill manage to control it?!"

The surrounding recruiters were equally stunned.

Even Solaris’s expression changed.

Rias’s red eyes widened.

The purple-robed officials watching the match leaned forward.

Everyone understood what this meant.

Selena hadn’t merely injured the Level 30 Calamity Boss.

She had actually forced its enormous body into a temporary state of paralysis.

And then—

They all drew in sharp breaths.
