Chapter 50: what about your mom

Leon pulled his wand and hand forward, he gritted his teeth, "How about some of this!" He roared, lightning crackled around his fingers and grew fast, he used his strongest lightning spell. The massive burst of lightning surged forward.

It slammed into the undead that were in front of him, destroying them in seconds.

The group stared at him after he took down a good chunk of the undead.

"You had such a spell and didn’t you make use of it?" Mark yelled.

"It’s a three-star spell, and takes a lot of mana," Leon said.

They were still not out of the woods, the undead were still there. They attacked even more vigorously, but the group found their flow and they started taking them down faster.

The leader of the undead watched as its followers died one after the other and finally decided that it was time to attack. It flew above everyone while they were busy fighting and then screeched,

Screeeeeeeeeech!!!!

The sound was worse than all of the lesser undead combined, it caused their brains to rattle inside their heads.

"Arghhh"

Everyone groaned in pain and they collapsed to the ground, their ears bleeding out as they struggled to cover them.

’Shit, this is too much.’ Leon tried to move, eagerly trying to get up, but the pain in his head was getting too much.

The ground beneath them started cracking due to the sonic screech.

"We have to find a way to stop it," Leon yelled, but they could not hear him at all. None of them could hear anything aside from the screech. The ground beneath them caved and shattered, they all fell through it, falling deeper into the cave as huge chunks of rocks fell as well.

Leon expected the fall to simply be a small fall to a lower sector, but the fall got longer. He slammed into the ground and rolled, he tried to get his hand to grab something, but a rock smashed into his fingers.

"Arghh!" The pain was crazy. He gritted his teeth and tried to focus. He turned to his side barely and spotted Sophia, she was falling with him as well. She pulled her scythe and stabbed into the rock, trying to stop herself, only for a rock to slam into her and knock her off.

"Sophia!" he called out. He tried to cast a wind spell to catch her, but he lost focus on what was heading for him. A rock smashed into his head.

BAM!

Everything blurred, Leon began struggling and fighting to stay awake, and not long after he slammed into a body of water, sinking fast as he was losing consciousness.

When his eyes almost went dark, he saw a figure leap into the water and head for him.

Sophia wrapped her arm around him and pulled him toward the banks, she swam fast and pulled him out, placing him on the ground.

She began chest compressions, pushing hard on his stomach and chest as best as she could until Leon started coughing water. She fell back to her butt and watched him.

Leon coughed out more and sat up, he looked at her, already knowing what had happened.

"Thank you for saving me."

"You only lost consciousness because you were focused on me," she said and got to her feet. She walked to where her scythe had fallen and picked it up.

"Seems we have fallen too deep underground, I can barely see the hole we came through," she said.

"I can use earth magic to help us get back up and find our way," Leon stated.

"No, the walls are unstable," she said and picked up a rock. She tossed it up toward the ceiling and it hit lightly, only for the rocks to collapse more.

"If you use magic to deform the rocks, we might end up dead, buried under rubble. It’s already lucky we survived this."

"Well, that’s shitty," Leon replied.

"Should you even say that at your age?" she asked.

"I have killed people before. Is language where you draw the line?" he asked while walking toward her.

"Tch, I forget you are less of a kid," she said and started walking.

"Let’s find a way out of this without getting ourselves killed," she said.

Leon followed behind while looking around the place. The pool there was blue and glowing and somewhat beautiful, it illuminated the entire chamber.

"You know, I find it really hard to believe that someone like you came out of nowhere. You can’t be a nobody for sure.

You are extremely smart and extremely talented. Also, the way you carry yourself and act, I know a noble when I see one," Sophia said.

Leon paused for a moment, worried that he had slipped up and now everyone could see that.

"You don’t have to worry about anyone knowing it. Maybe Roger is suspicious, but you hide it well enough for the others to not be suspicious," she explained.

"Sigh, I guess it’s hard to hide ten years of training," Leon replied.

"So I was right. So what happened, kid? What made a young noble leave at the age of ten?" she asked.

Leon went quiet after that. She sensed how down he was immediately.

"I’m sorry for asking. I did not mean to be rude."

"No, it’s not that. It’s just, sigh, I was kicked out, exiled," Leon said.

"Ah, I see, something bad must have happened for that to happen."

"Calling it something bad is an understatement," Leon said.

"Hmm, that bad. I’m guessing it has something to do with the monster girl," she continued.

"In a way, yeah."

"So you are after her for revenge? Thought you said she was special."

"It’s not for revenge. She is special to me. It’s a long story what happened, and as much as I want to bury it and forget it, it haunts me deeply," Leon replied.

"Hmmm, so what about your mom? She just allowed you to go?" she asked.
