TALENT STEALING MAGE

Chapter 49: All at once

The undead did not give him the time to think. One rushed at him, opened its mouth, and let out a compressed screech.

"Shit," Leon cursed. He used wind magic to move to the side and evade it fast, then proceeded to use more magic to lift himself off the ground. He flipped in the air, lined up with the undead, and then proceeded to attack with a fireball.

The undead saw it coming and very quickly vanished. It appeared behind Leon and wrapped its hands around him, gripping him hard and refusing to let go.

Leon grit his teeth, pointed his wand upward, and used a wind spell, propelling himself downward. He slammed into the ground with the undead on his back, forcefully shattering the hold and allowing him to get up.

He got to his feet fast. He knew that the undead would move as well, so he hurled his sword at it, and it stabbed right into its shoulder and pinned it to the ground for a second. Leon moved in to finish the attack with a spell, only for the undead to vanish again and appear behind him, then proceeding to attack, but Leon’s spell was already in action, and a wave of flames shot out.

It slammed into the undead and pushed it back. The flames engulfed it in seconds and burnt it to the ground.

Leon looked at the others, and they had defeated the rest of the undead as well.

"I did not expect them to attack out of nowhere that way," Sophia said. She rolled her scythe and hung it on her shoulder.

"Seems they have gathered more now that no one was here," Kira pointed out.

"Let’s head deeper and get rid of these creatures," Mark said eagerly and took the lead. He walked into the darkness as his flames brought light into the hallway. He barely made it a few feet in before an undead shot out toward him. It let out a sonic screech louder than the ones used by the others a few moments ago.

It slammed into Mark like a hammer against a nail. He was hurled back extremely fast. Sophia moved into the way and grabbed him in the air. She looked at him, and there was a massive wound on his chest as well as blood seeping out of his mouth.

She realized that the situation was far worse than they expected, and she immediately yelled, "Seal the path now!"

Kira and Leon moved to cast a spell, but before they could make another move, a massive sonic screech came again, shattering the walls of the tunnel.

Kira and Leon cast ice spells that created a dome around them. The force caused the dome to shatter, but they were safe from the attack.

They looked at the tunnel and saw more undead flying out, and this time it was not ten. Their numbers reached into fifty as they filled the chamber in seconds.

Finally, the last one flew out. It looked bigger than the rest and seemed far more powerful.

Mark, who was down, coughed up blood and struggled to his feet when he saw the situation that they were in. He knew that every help would count now, and he needed to help.

"This is bad," Sofia said.

"It’s best we try to retreat somehow," Kira suggested, but before any plan could be made, the undead attacked all at the same time.

Three flew at Leon at the same time.

’Shit, I did not think I’d have to fight this sort of fight immediately after joining them. I have to survive this no matter what.’

He gripped his wand and threw his hand to the front. A blast of flames filled the air in an effort for him to blind them for a second.

"Push hard, get between and land killer attacks."

He pushed off fast, using wind to move faster. He came in contact with one of the undead and pulled his hand forward. A fireball twisted into existence. He shot it forward at it. It vanished and appeared behind him. Leon spun around to face it, and another one came from behind. It grabbed him and tried to pull him off the ground.

He flipped his sword into a reverse grip and lit it on fire, stabbing it into the undead, the flames spreading fast as he pointed his wand at the other and attacked with a stream of flames that lit it ablaze.

’There seems to be some sort of cooldown between when they can vanish, which means I can attack immediately after they vanish.’

While he was in thought, another flew at him and grabbed Leon by the shoulders. Leon fought back and was about to win, but it then let out a screech right in front of Leon.

The sonic sound caused his head to ring and almost burst his eardrums. Leon staggered backwards and almost collapsed to the ground. His ear was bleeding at that moment, and even then, he placed his wand against the undead and blasted it with flames that killed it.

Another set of two rushed at him. He ducked under one and charged at the other, unleashing a roaring flame that engulfed it completely. The first undead turned around and lunged at Leon. Leon moved fast and evaded it, only to trip on a rock and land hard on the ground. They swarmed him instantly, and all at once they unleashed their screeches, the sound so loud and destructive that right there on the ground he coughed blood and bled from his ears.

The pain filled Leon in seconds, and he was struggling against it. He needed to find a way out of this. He put all his attention into one spell. A massive earth pillar shot from beneath him and raised him above the ground and away from the undead below.

He staggered back to his feet with a struggle, looking down at the undead that were already up and attacking again.

"Tch, screw this."
