TALENT STEALING MAGE
Chapter 16: A pillar
Everyone looked at the duo as they stepped in. Men were seated around tables, some wearing leather armour and a few metal armour parts. It was not easy to come by full sets of armour for low-level adventurers.
"Keep your eyes straight and do not stare at anyone, unless you are willing to use your name to take them on," Roger said as they walked in.
"Tch, I have you for that. I would prefer to not swing my family name everywhere," Leon replied.
"Considering that this is your town, I do not see how that will be an issue," Roger stated.
While they spoke, a large shadow formed in front of them. Roger and Leon looked up. They saw a tall, bulky man standing there. He had what looked like a tank top on, allowing his thick arms to show. There was a unique tattoo on his arm, a star-pointed star with a circle at the center.
"This isn’t a place for kids," he spoke calmly, his voice deep and heavy.
"The allowed age for the guild is five years old. Anyone above that age can step in," Roger calmly said and tried to walk past, only for the man to use his hand to block Roger.
"That’s simply on paper. No one allows their child to come in here, that’s stupid," the man said.
While he was just talking to Roger, Leon slipped by and headed to the counter. The man noticed this and turned around.
"Hey there, kid," he yelled and rushed to grab Leon, only for a blade to end up on his neck.
"The moment you lay your hand on him, the moment your head leaves your body," Roger spoke with clear killing intent, so much of it that everyone could feel it, and they all dreaded it.
The man swallowed hard. He tried to say something, only for Roger to press the sword closer to his neck and draw a drop of blood. He looked at the man in a way that said it all.
"Hey, Roger, come on already, stop bullying the dude."
Roger listened. He pulled his sword back and sheathed it, his killing intent vanishing at the same time. He walked past the man and caught up to Leon.
"You know you have to help me register, why are you wasting time playing with some random person?" Leon asked.
"Sorry, Master Leon, but you should also not leave my side whenever you want."
"I got bored," Leon replied.
When they got to the counter, the lady behind it greeted them with a smile. She was the guild receptionist, and she handled most of the stuff.
"I’d like to register the young master here as an adventurer," Roger said.
The lady had watched the scene that had unfolded and simply did not want any trouble.
"That’s okay, as long as he is above five, he meets the required age. You’ll just have to help him fill the forms, and that’s okay," she said and brought out a form and a quill. Roger took it and handed it to Leon.
Leon walked over to a table. A few people were on the bench, and they scooted a bit for him to sit.
"Sir, please, the guild does not have many forms. You have to fill it yourself to ensure that he does not ruin..."
"Done," Leon said and dropped down from the table. He handed the form back to Roger, and he gave it back to the receptionist.
When she read through it, she was stunned at how cleanly he had filled everything.
Her eyes then went to his name, and when she got up there, she froze, the realization hitting her.
"Did you by chance write your full name?" Roger asked Leon.
"Yeahhhhh, oops, I was in a rush to finish," Leon said while shrugging.
"Sigh, Master Leon, you are the smartest dumb person I know."
"Bel... Belmont?" the receptionist asked in shock. She looked at the paper and then at Leon again.
"Yeah, sorry, I wrote my full name by accident. Can you just help me register and not create a scene?" Leon asked.
She heard that and nodded.
He knew that his name had already been heard, but he still wanted to do this quickly and leave.
She rushed to finish the application, and then she rushed into the room behind her to process his guild card.
"Did she call Belmont?" someone asked in a low voice.
"Is that kid really from the count’s family?"
"The count’s sons should be about that age."
"What would he be doing here?"
Leon could hear all of them murmuring, trying to hide it while doing a terrible job at that.
He thought the attention would be on him for longer, only for someone to barge into the guild, running at full speed, sweat trickling down with a look of panic and confusion.
Everyone turned to look at him, including Roger and Leon.
"Everyone, there is something massive outside the town, close to the forest.
It sprung up from the ground, some sort of massive pillar."
Everyone looked at themselves. If the pillar had made him run here, then it had to be special. One by one, everyone got up and headed out, eager to see what was happening.
"Well, that’s one way to take the attention off you," Roger said.
"I want to see it, the pillar, whatever it is," Leon said.
"Hmm? Okay."
The receptionist walked out with the card. She was stunned when she saw that there was barely anyone there.
Leon took his card and left as well. He was a wood-ranked adventurer now, which was the lowest, and through merit, he would climb higher.
