TALENT STEALING MAGE
Chapter 14: Becoming an Adventurer
The crystal glowed immediately after Leon placed his hand. A dark blue glow emanated from it and filled the room. Everyone watched and was stunned for the second time in a day. A dark blue core was only a step away from a light purple core.
’I got dark blue? I never thought I would have this high an affinity for magic, hahahaha.’
Leon turned away from the crystal and walked down. The place erupted in cheers and clapping, though it was not as loud as the claps that were given to William.
Leon did not care, though. He could barely hear the claps, nor did he care for them. All he cared about was the fact that he got an awesome core, and that meant he could use magic very well now.
He walked past William. William had a smug smile on his face as he watched his brother walk past. He expected Leon to turn and look at him and see that he was superior, but William did not. Or give him the time of day.
William did not even stop for his mother. He simply walked out. His father and everyone saw him leave the room, his mind completely absent. He walked out into the compound, his maids rushing after him.
"Young master, young master!"
They tried to reach him. He heard them, but he did not want to be bothered at the moment. He really needed to think about things going forward, and so he cast a wind spell that created a platform under his feet and allowed him to rise up in the air. They watched him go higher until he was beyond their reach, only then did he sit on the air and cross his legs.
"Young master, please come down," Tesha pleaded.
"We understand that you might be angry because you did not get a core as good as your brother, but what you got is extremely amazing, young master," Mary said.
Leon looked down when he heard that. He raised his brow.
"You thought I left because my stepbrother has a better core than me?" He asked as if to confirm.
"Uhm, yes. Is that not why you left, young master?" Mary asked to confirm.
"Tch, do you see me as that petty? Well, I guess that’s fair. Everyone expects us to be normal kids and act the way normal kids would act if we saw someone get better.
Sadly, I do not care about that. My brother is his own person, and I am my own person. What he gets is his, and what I get is mine. Besides, he really can’t compare magic with me," Leon said and got up. He allowed the spell to take him down, and he stood on the ground. Tesha and Mary rushed over to him to hold him, scared that he would run away.
"You two know that I’ll become an adventurer soon, right? There is no way you can take care of me all the time."
"Young master, nooo!" Tesha cried and hugged him tighter.
"Why are you rushing to become one, young master? You are young and barely able to use good magic. We can’t allow you," Mary said.
Leon heaved a heavy sigh and raised one hand. A fireball formed in his hand and shot out. It ripped through the air and slammed into the wall. It sounded like a small explosion, and when they looked, they saw a hole in the wall.
"I think I’ll be fine," Leon said and slipped out of their grip.
"You two are going to have to let go of me going forward. You’ll have to learn that at least."
"And why is that?"
Leon heard his mother’s voice, and he immediately froze. His head turned slowly, and he looked at her standing there with her hands crossed and Roger standing beside her.
"Uhm, mum... I’m sorry... I..."
"Here I was, worried that you felt bad because your half-brother had managed to get a higher core than you, and I come here to comfort my baby, only to have him here talking about sneaking out to become an adventurer." She said it and looked at him dead in the eye. Leon stepped back and shook his hands.
"No, no, Mum, I swear it, I had no plans to sneak out. I was going to talk with you about it," he said, trying to make her see that he did not try to go behind her back.
"The answer is no, Leon," she said calmly.
"No? Mum, you can’t do that to me. I’ve been training for this for so long. You know I can take care of myself," he argued.
She frowned when she heard that.
"You are five. Only the gods know why you somehow managed to get so smart at such an age that I have to have such adult discussions with you." She sighed and pinched him by the ear.
"Ouch, ouch!"
"Just because you somehow know a good amount of magic does not mean you can go about being an adventurer, and I’m not allowing you to become one at such a young age."
"But, Mum. In the next nine years, I’ll have to leave for some magic academy, and then I’ll not have the time to be one. This is the best time for me to get into it and train to get better," he argued again.
"I’m done arguing with you, Leon, especially after what happened last year. You are not fully safe if you become an adventurer," she said.
"What if I become his party member, my lady?" Roger stepped forward and said.
She looked at him with sharp eyes that were basically a warning, but Roger looked away, trying not to meet her eye. She heaved a sigh and then pulled Leon closer.
"Fine, I’ll consider it, but you’ll have to show me your magic, the best of it, before I’ll allow you. I know you have been hiding your magic from me, you cheeky little brat," she said to him, a smile cracking on her face.
