The first volley of arrows, each shaft fletched with crimson feathers and tipped with obsidian-like steel, released with a unified twang that reverberated through the cavern. The projectiles arced through the air with deadly precision. The eerie green light emanating from the beast's chest cavity illuminated their flight path. They impacted the dragon's massive, bony skull with a series of sharp cracks, scattering chips of ancient bone like shrapnel. The arrows, capable of piercing through the finest armor the old world offered, barely scratched the surface. They left behind insignificant nicks that looked like faint scars on the colossal remains.

A cacophony of spell fire followed, raining a torrent of arcane energy upon the creature's form from afar. Blazing fireballs, crackling bolts of lightning, and jagged shards of ice converged on the undead monstrosity. Their combined assault created a dazzling display of raw power that barely registered against the dragon's defenses.

Before the beast could fully react, a bellowing shout tore through the cavern. Its intensity rivaled the dragon's own roar. "Face your end, ancient fiend!" The voice filled the air with rage and raw determination.

Akira Tanaka, one of the Guardians in front, stood as a towering warrior clad in steel-plated armor. He activated his skill with a guttural cry. "Challenge of the Defiant!"

The air around him shimmered and distorted as an invisible force drew the dragon's undivided attention. The massive head, with its twisted horns and hollow eyes burning with malevolent green fire, slowly turned in his direction. The neck vertebrae ground together with a sickening crunch. The eyes pulsed brightly as they locked fully onto the Guardian, their hellish glow intensifying with focused malice.

The two men beside him, Guardians like their comrade, brought their heavy shields up right next to his. Countless battles fought side by side synchronized their movements perfectly. Their shields slammed into the stone with a resounding clang. Magical barriers, shimmering with bright light, erupted from the shields surfaces. They interlocked with each other to form an impenetrable wall of energy that stretched across the width of the ziggurat's summit.

From behind them, soft voices spoke in rapid succession, imbuing their words with arcane power.

"Lesser strength." A brilliant golden light enveloped the front line. Their muscles swelled with supernatural might.

"Impenetrable." The barriers intensified. Their light glowed brighter as the shields became as durable as a fortress wall.

"Shared essence." Thin, ethereal threads of emerald energy connected the Guardians together, allowing for a shared lifeforce.

"Undying." A faint, silver aura surrounded each Guardian.

The bodies of the front line began to glow in a variety of colors as the supporters applied their magic to them. The combination of their abilities created a formidable defensive formation that had seen them through countless near-fatal encounters.

Behind them, a silhouette ascended the stairs of the ziggurat. Its heavy footfalls shook the ground lightly compared to the earlier tremors caused by the dragon's descent. The figure, clad in ornate armor that seemed to absorb the surrounding light, moved with a grace that belied the weight of its gear. Daichi Watanabe, the team's primary damage dealer, adjusted the grip on his two-handed Nodachi. Its blade hummed with energy as he prepared to join the fray.

From behind Daichi, a red scaly head rose, far smaller than the one in front of them but no less intimidating. A lesser Wyrmling stretched its neck, scanning the battlefield with golden eyes that held an intelligence surpassing that of a mere animal.

"Amber. Light it up," the voice of a middle-aged woman called out from beside it, her tone calm yet commanding.

The Wyrmling opened its maw, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth and a throat glowing with the fires of its breath weapon. With a guttural hiss, it released a torrent of flame that shot forth, consuming the head of the colossal undead dragon in a conflagration of orange and red. The flames, imbued with the Wyrmling's unique magic, clung to the dragon's skull, seeking to sear through the necrotic flesh and bone that had defied countless assaults before.

The necrotic dragon responded in kind. Its desiccated jaw unhinged with a grotesque, bone-chilling crack that echoed through the cavernous tomb. A torrent of green flame, sickly and unnatural, erupted from its throat, bathing the entire plateau of the ziggurat in otherworldly fire. The flames shot forth with terrifying velocity, licking at the magically constructed barrier of the front line. The shimmering wall of energy held firm against the onslaught, its surface warping and distorting under the immense pressure of the assault. The heat wave, however, washed over everyone standing behind it. It struck as a palpable force that seared exposed skin and caused the very air to crackle with arcane energy.

"Hold your ground!" The same voice that gave the speech earlier echoed over the roaring inferno. Its tone cut through the cacophony of battle with unwavering authority. "Five seconds, then we head into melee."

The command met with nods of grim determination from the front line. Their muscles strained against the force of the flames that threatened to breach their magical defenses.

Everyone behind the barrier waited for the flames to snuff out. Their hearts pounded in their chests as the green fire continued to batter against the magical shield. The moment the five seconds ended, the beast closed its maw. The sudden silence that followed felt more unnerving than the previous cacophony.

Without waiting for another signal, the melee fighters ran through the shimmering shield. The various enhancements provided by their supporters imbued their bodies with speed and strength. As they surged forward, a hailstorm of arrows and spells rained down upon the dragon. The projectiles and arcane energies struck the creature's massive form with renewed ferocity, seeking to exploit any weakness in its defense.

The guardians gave a nod to each other as their protective wall came down, the shimmering energy dissipating like morning mist.

"Good luck, Panda," the one in the center murmured. His voice sounded strained but steady beneath the weight of his heavy helm.

The other two, flanking him, returned the gesture with sharp, almost imperceptible jerks of their heads—a silent language forged in countless battles against impossible odds.

The one on the left, known to her comrades as CrimsonPanda, slammed her shield against the fractured stone floor in acknowledgement. The sharp clang echoed like a funeral bell across the ziggurat's summit. Then she broke formation. Her armored boots pounded across the uneven surface with practiced urgency. Her gaze locked onto the only wall section still mostly intact, a strategic point that had saved them more times than she cared to remember. The air crackled with residual energy from the dragon's previous assault, making each breath taste of burnt bone.

As she neared her destination, her armored boots slid across the smooth but cracked stone. She turned towards the dragon and unleashed a shockwave that traveled through the chamber. The dragon's massive head snapped around with a sickening crunch, bending at an unnatural angle. Its hollow eye sockets burned, now solely focused on her.

Then the beast's segmented tail, lined with jagged bone spikes lashed out like a whip. The impact against her shield proved cataclysmic. A thunderous crack sent shockwaves up her arms and through her entire body. The raw kinetic force catapulted her off her feet, sending her spinning through the air like a discarded ragdoll. She crashed into the stone wall with such violence that spiderweb cracks radiated outward from the point of impact. Dust and pebbles rained down around her crumpled form.

Blood sprayed from her lips as she struggled to her knees. The pale silver aura of protection flared violently before extinguishing like a dying ember. "Damn it..." she muttered, the curse barely audible past the ringing in her ears. Her ribs felt shattered; each breath brought an agony of fire and ice.

From across the platform, another taunt cut through the chaos—the third guardian drawing the beast's wrath. "Over here, you oversized lizard!"

This created a triangular position of threats around the dragon, spreading its attention thin. With the beast momentarily distracted, Panda fumbled in her storage ring. Her trembling fingers finally closed around a clear bottle filled with viscous crimson liquid. She uncorked it with her teeth and tilted her head back to greedily gulp down the bitter concoction. She felt its magical warmth spread through her broken body like wildfire, knitting bone and mending flesh.

All the while, beneath its towering body, the other members slashed away at every point they could reach. Their weapons glanced off hardened scales and sank into decaying flesh with sickening squelches.

"Daichi, get up there!" shouted one of the melee fighters, a man whose arms bulged with enhanced strength. He crouched low, planting his feet firmly into the cracked stone. With a grimace of effort, he laid his broadsword across his back, the metal groaning under the pressure as he formed a makeshift ramp.

The moment he felt the heavy armored boot of his teammate settle on his blade, Chen Yuxin erupted upward with all the force his magically enhanced muscles could muster. A grunt of pure exertion tore from his throat as he launched Daichi high into the air, the momentum carrying him toward the dragon's massive form. The launch proved violent, nearly dislocating Chen's shoulder, but it served its intended purpose perfectly.

Daichi Watanabe landed on the soft necrotic flesh of the dragon's huge hind leg with a wet thud. His boots sank several centimeters into the putrid tissue. The stench overwhelmed his senses—a foul mixture of ancient decay and the acrid smell of the green flames burning within the beast. He ran up its back, his feet making disgusting squishing sounds with each step. Every movement became a precarious struggle for balance as his boots sank deeper into the rotting flesh. The constant, terrifying risk of slipping off its back at a single misstep threatened to send him plummeting to his death on the stone below.

He finally reached the spine, finding more stable ground beneath his feet as he navigated the protruding vertebrae like a twisted, bone-white mountain range. He neared the point where the tattered wings connected to the dragon's back. He dropped into a low stance, his muscles coiled like springs. The dragon's movements beneath him felt like a localized earthquake, each shift threatening to dislodge him completely.

With both hands gripping the hilt of his Nodachi, Daichi stood in a low crouch. His head snapped up. His eyes burned with intense focus as they locked onto the vulnerable joint of the wing.

"Second of Sword, Blaze."

His voice came as a whisper, nearly lost in the cacophony of battle. In one swift, fluid motion, he swung his sword. A blazing fire trail flared behind it as it bit deep into the massive bone. The smell of burning necrotic tissue filled the air as his enchanted blade seared through the deep decay.

"First of Sword, Whistling Wind."

He brought his sword right back down at the exact same point he had made his cut earlier. The movement looked so precise it seemed rehearsed a thousand times. The faint shimmer around his sword made the blade emit a high-pitched whistle as it cut clean through the already weakened bone. The sharp sound was barely audible above the dragon's agonized, ear-splitting roar.
