Chapter 1477: Incoming Enemy
Chapter 1477: Incoming Enemy
Noel stood in front of his soldiers. There were many familiar faces, especially among the commanders who had sparring matches with him during the event.
Unlike Adam, Noel’s charisma could be seen from miles away. His presence alone was enough for admiration.
His people stood in lines, saluting their supreme commander.
Noel glanced at Laufey, recalling the report.
"My lord. We’ve received concerning news. Right now, the enemies are coming toward us from these two spots." He pointed at two cities at the very edge of the Ardagan family’s border.
"Thanks to you spreading our scouting area, we caught on to them early. By utilizing the airship, we managed to evacuate the citizens.
"Unfortunately, these demons will most likely destroy the two villages. The damage won’t be that significant, but these two are already bigger than a village. Reconstruction will definitely take more than two months.
"Still, there are no casualties. Once they hit these two cities, they are most likely to move to this place." Laufey pointed at a single city. This one was supposed to be the supply line for these two frontier cities. There was no other city near it, making the city the best bait to gather the incoming attack.
"What is the enemy’s strength?" Noel finally opened his mouth.
"We haven’t spotted any ancient demons. However, we have found six superior demons. As for the number, it should be around sixty to seventy thousand."
Noel squinted his eyes. The number alone was quite huge, but the fact it didn’t have any ancient demons was concerning. It was clear these two were bait from the enemy.
However, Noel couldn’t see their intention this time. After all, this attack was even weaker than the one coming to the Stargaze family.
"Does this mean it’s just a way to stop me? But they won’t be able to stop me with this number alone." Noel crossed his arms.
"The enemy’s target is unclear."
"Well, they can also focus their attack on Anna..." Noel still believed he would be the main target. But the way they did it was so suspicious.
Noel let out a long sigh. "Either way, we have no choice but to fall into the enemy’s trap.
"If anything happens, I want you to command the army in my stead."
"Understood." Laufey nodded. It looked like Noel predicted there would be a sneak attack that stopped Noel from commanding the army. At that time, the chain of command would be ineffective, allowing the demons to do something even wilder.
Noel remembered the meeting and finally opened his mouth in front of his soldiers.
"Right now, tens of thousands of demons are encroaching on our land. We are going to stop them with all our strength.
"It is a moment you’ve been waiting for. Are you ready, warriors of the Ardagan family? We’re going to hunt some demons." Noel smiled confidently.
There was no need for Noel to give an inspiring speech. After all, the elite soldiers of the Ardagan family had been waiting for this moment. Their morale was already through the roof.
They just wanted to prove themselves, especially since the lord was leading this battle personally.
With Noel’s simple speech, their excitement burst as they cheered for Noel.
Noel waved his hand and shouted, "Board our ships. Our destination is Knart!"
Soldiers boarded the airships quickly. Noel deployed six airships this time, one for each division.
Rose and Laufey followed him to the main ship. Unlike other airships, this one was refined further. It had the huge Ardagan family symbol on its belly. The appearance alone was much more majestic than the others. It was slightly bigger, but not as big as the eagle class airship.
Noel gave the order to depart as soon as everyone was ready. The airships flew into the sky as the people cheered for them, knowing that their patriarch would once again return in triumph.
They assumed formation. The main ship would stay at the back, with Noel staying with the 3rd division. Meanwhile, the other five ships formed a wedge in front of the main ship.
Noel knew that there was one thing lacking for the airship. That was a communication system. Currently, the only way to contact other airships was through signals. Each ship had two to three people giving flag signals.
Only Noel could spread his voice to other airships by utilizing the spiritual energy. So, Noel definitely wanted a way to communicate and hoped that someone would invent it sooner or later.
For the time being, the airships were moving quickly toward the battlefield.
Noel was still calculating everything in his mind, wondering if this was nothing but a trick. This was the first time he had left his main city. It would have been a disaster if the main city had been attacked, especially since the enemy had Josephine, who could create a portal near the city.
However, due to the last portal, Noel had prepared a countermeasure. Besides, there were still enough soldiers to protect the city.
This time, Noel planned to become the bait so that the enemy would focus on him.
In addition, Noel had asked Layla to protect the city. Although she wouldn’t join the battle directly, just having a spirit transcendence inside the city was enough to make him feel assured. There was also Paladin Aurelia with her.
Noel promised the Moon Temple an airship as a donation (bribe) if they helped, so Layla didn’t hesitate to agree.
Finally, after thirty minutes of flying at full speed, they finally reached the City of Knart. It was fortunate that the city hadn’t been attacked yet, but it didn’t seem like they were safe either.
After all, so many black dots were coming toward the city. The dots grew bigger and bigger, showing its true appearance.
That was right. The two demon armies joined each other and headed straight to the city.
The soldiers had been going to the top of their walls, but all of them turned pale just by seeing the sheer number of demons.
Fortunately, Noel wasn’t late. The airships crossed over the city and assumed positions before showing the true might of the Ardagan family’s air force.
