Breathing in Liu Ruyan’s sweet fragrance, Ye Jin sighed in satisfaction.

"I miss you so much, Yan Yan. Do you miss me?"

While Ye Jin was kissing her hair, Liu Ruyan stared at the virtual screen floating in front of her. Seeing that the Luck Value had not changed, her expression sank.

’Damn it! What’s wrong here?!’ Biting her lower lip in frustration, she frowned deeply. ’I remember Ye Jin still has more than ten thousand Luck Value. I should be able to steal it until it reaches zero. Do I really lose my control over his emotions?’

Not receiving any response from Liu Ruyan, Ye Jin let her go and asked with a hint of worry in his voice, "Yan Yan, what’s wrong?"

Coming out of her thoughts, Liu Ruyan put on a sad smile and shook her head.

With her head slightly lowered, she perfectly displayed the fragile expression that Ye Jin liked and softly replied, "Nothing. I miss you so much, Elder Brother Jin."

Hearing this, Ye Jin’s expression softened. He lifted her chin and kissed her gently. As they exchanged kisses, their breathing became heavier.

Licking his lips, Ye Jin whispered, "Let’s go back. I really need you now."

’Very well. I will take this opportunity to see if I can steal some Luck Value from him.’ With this in mind, Liu Ruyan shyly nodded. "Mhm."

Receiving her agreement, Ye Jin swallowed hard as desire burned fiercely inside him. With her in his arms, Ye Jin left the Ye family’s villa in a hurry.

Getting into the armored car parked outside, he urgently ordered, "Return to my apartment."

Glancing at his urgent expression through the rearview mirror, the bodyguard replied, "Yes, Young Master."

As soon as he closed the car door, Ye Jin grabbed Liu Ruyan by the nape and kissed her hard.

Sitting behind the steering wheel, the bodyguard listened to their labored breathing and moans.

Feeling curious, he glanced at the rearview mirror. When he saw Liu Ruyan’s bare upper body and Ye Jin’s hands groping her breasts and private parts, he looked away in disgust.

Meanwhile, in the Research Institute located in the central ring of Lie Huo Military Base, a group of doctors and scientists in white coats surrounded a bed where an unconscious man in his late twenties was tied up.

Holding a black file, one of the scientists said, "Professor Lin, the test results are not promising."

Beep.

As he said this, the door beeped once and opened.

Turning around, the doctors and scientists saw a middle-aged man in a military uniform walk in, followed by four soldiers.

The doctors and scientists saluted him and greeted him in unison, "Great Commander Gu."

Gu Hao nodded to them and walked up to the bed. Standing beside it, he looked at the tied-up man and asked, "How is Xuanming’s condition today?"

Handing the black file to him, the scientist reported, "Base Commander Gu’s condition is getting worse by the second. The virus inhibitor has failed."

When Gu Hao heard this, he looked at his nephew’s pale face, which was covered in black lines, and clenched his hands.

"Professor Lin, is there no way to slow down the infection?" Gu Hao asked after a long moment of silence.

The doctors and scientists exchanged glances, then the oldest scientist shook his head. "Unfortunately, with our current technology and lack of data, the virus inhibitor is our best chance."

Turning to look at the Chief Scientist, Lin Fubo, Gu Hao asked with a hint of desperation in his voice, "Is there really no other way?"

Lin Fubo sighed, then replied, "If we could get our hands on the secret documents, there might be a chance to create a serum to delay the infection."

Receiving this answer, Gu Hao nodded in understanding. "Alright. I will have my people deliver the secret documents to you as soon as Lingjian returns."

Hearing this, Lin Fubo said, "Understood. We will try our best to delay the infection in the meantime."

"I’ll be waiting for your good news." Gu Hao looked at his nephew once more, then left the room, followed by the soldiers.

After the door closed behind them, the chief doctor looked at Lin Fubo and asked, "Professor Lin, do you really have a way to delay the infection?"

Lin Fubo sighed and replied, "We can only try our best and hope that Captain Gu can return as soon as possible with the secret documents."

After saying that, he looked at the chief doctor and added, "Chief Doctor Xu, I still have things to deal with in the laboratory. I’ll take my leave first. Please take good care of him."

Xu Kangxiang nodded. "Don’t worry about Base Commander Gu. My team and I will keep an eye on him."

Looking at Lin Fubo’s weary face, he added worriedly, "As for you, please remember to eat and get enough sleep."

Knowing that Xu Kangxiang was worried about him, Lin Fubo patted him on the shoulder, then left with his apprentices.

Left alone with his team in the room, Xu Kangxiang looked at his students and said, "I will stay in my office. If something happens, report to me as soon as possible."

The doctors nodded and responded in unison, "Yes, Teacher."

With that, they left the room, while the youngest doctor stayed behind to monitor Gu Xuanming’s condition.

Unlike the peaceful life inside the Lie Huo Military Base, outside the base, survivors and ability users were fighting zombies and mutants for a slim chance of survival.

Inside the Central Delivery Hub, Liu Yun and her team had just finished clearing another group of zombies in Section D.

Looking up at the gray sky covered in thin fog, Ye Xuan noticed that the sky had gradually changed color.

Turning to his brothers and Liu Yun, he wiped the sweat from his chin and said, "That’s enough for now. Let’s leave before the Blood Moon comes out."

Wiping the black blood from their weapons using the zombies’ clothes, Gu Zhenwei and the others responded, "Alright."

Seeing that Liu Yun was still stirring the zombie’s head with her wooden stick, Ye Xuan asked, "Younger Sister Liu, are you done?"

"Wait a minute. There are three more heads to check," Liu Yun replied, then sped up her movements as she stirred the zombie’s brain.

Watching her stab her wooden stick into another zombie’s eye, Gu Zhenwei couldn’t help but mutter, "Younger Sister Liu is more skilled than me."

Hearing this, Lan Zuancheng, Qiu Sixun, and Ye Xuan nodded in agreement.

Two minutes later, Liu Yun dug out one more crystal core from the last zombie’s head and stood up. Putting the crystal core into her plastic bag, she wiped the brain matter and black blood from her wooden stick using the zombie’s clothes, then trotted toward the others.

"Done. We can leave now."

Seeing that the plastic bag was almost filled with crystal cores, Ye Xuan said, "Let’s go."

With that, the team quickly left the area.

Meanwhile, sitting on top of one of the buildings there, He Lin watched them disappear into the distance.

After he could no longer see them, he raised his head and looked at the sun as it slowly disappeared beyond the western horizon. As the sky turned dark, the corners of his lips curved up slightly.

Standing up, he dusted the dirt from his black pants, then jumped down from the building. Soon, he disappeared into the darkness.
