Chapter 95: 95:She is a walking wildfire

Alan rushed into Nova’s classroom, his chest heaving with ragged breaths. The moment his panicked gaze landed on Nova, sitting unharmed at her desk, he let out a long, heavy sigh of relief and closed the distance between them.

"Snow," he called softly, his voice trembling with leftover fear.

Nova raised her head, taking in his anxious expression. "I made my baby worry," she thought, her lips curving into a reassuring smile.

Without waiting another second, Alan pulled her into a tight, possessive hug, burying his face in the crook of her neck. "I heard the principal called you to his office... I completely freaked out when I heard."

Nova chuckled softly, gently pulling back to look at him. "Look at you. You know very well I’m not some delicate, defenseless girl. Why worry so much?" she commented, feeling a warm surge of affection.

Alan fell silent for a moment, his gaze locked onto hers. "I can’t help worrying about you," he confessed honestly.

Nova patted his head, smoothing his hair. "Don’t worry. I can protect myself. Besides... I’m the reason behind all that commotion out there," she said.

Alan searched her eyes deeply. "Snow, I can protect you. You should tell me if anyone is making things difficult for you. Don’t dirty your hands anymore, okay?" he said fiercely.

Nova went silent for a short while. "I am not the type who needs protection," she commented, locking eyes with him. Then her expression softened into a light chuckle. "But fine. You can be my sweet protector."

Alan smiled, stepping closer to press a tender kiss onto Nova’s forehead. "I don’t think classes will continue today since the principal is dead. Should we go home?" he asked.

Nova shook her head, her smile hiding a subtle, ominous depth. "Trust me, nothing is going to stop classes from continuing," she said.

Alan stared at her in confusion. "Snow...?" he called gently.

"It’s fine, baby. Head back to your class, okay? And make sure to bring me extra chocolates when you come back with snacks at noon," Nova said smoothly.

Alan nodded. "Then I’m heading back to class," he said, pressing another soft kiss right between her brows before turning to leave.

"Nova," Anah’s voice echoed in her mind.

"Mhm?" Nova replied inwardly, her dark smile widening.

"Did you notice something about this academy? Is that why you were so dead set on staying here?" Anah asked.

Nova chuckled silently. She pulled her laptop from her bag, placing it on the desk and casually tapping on the keyboard in a lazy rhythm. "I don’t give a damn about their petty affairs... but someone here has been eyeing my man," she thought.

"Eyeing your man...? Alan?" Anah asked in surprise.

"Mhm," Nova replied.

"That’s strange. The system hasn’t indicated that he’s in any danger," Anah commented.

Nova smirked. "It won’t—at least not yet. They haven’t made a move because they’re waiting. How should I put it? They’re waiting for my baby to grow a little more mature before striking," she replied calmly.

Anah remained silent for a beat. "Do you know who it is?" she asked.

Nova tapped the trackpad, launching a game on her screen, lazily swiping her fingers across the keys. "No," she murmured, her dark smile twisting into something terrifying. "At least, not for now."

Anah fell silent, watching her intently. "I somehow feel like you’re playing me, Nova. Did you recall something from your past?" she pressed.

"Sounds like your guilty conscience is biting you. You’re the one hiding things from me," Nova replied in a bored tone, not taking her eyes off the screen. "I have nothing to hide. Like I said before, I don’t care about those memories—whether I lost them or threw them away myself."

"Tsk. Whatever," Anah hissed in annoyance and remaind silent.

Nova’s focus remained entirely on the game on her screen, but her eyes glittered with lethal intent. "Whoever you are, you better keep your head down... otherwise..." Her eyes turned more scary.

Underground Gambling Den

Downstairs, the gambling floor was a chaotic hive of noise—roaring laughter, clinking glasses, shouts of victory, and the desperate, sorrowful wails of losers losing everything.

Upstairs, separated from the madness by a massive sheet of one-way glass, a young man sat in a high-backed leather chair, staring down at the floor with a cold, unreadable expression. A lit cigar rested between his lips. He lifted it with two fingers, exhaling a thick plume of gray smoke into the dim room.

"How is the investigation going?" the man asked, his voice rough, deep, and menacing.

A female guard standing vigil behind his chair stepped forward immediately, bowing her head. "Double K will be here shortly, Boss," she replied respectfully.

The man gave a single, curt nod, and the guard retreated into the shadows.

A moment later, the heavy door swung open. A man in a tailored black suit entered, holding a thick leather folder. He walked over to the armchair opposite the smoker, poured himself a cup of tea, and gulped it down in one draft before looking up.

"You were right, Trison," the man commented, his breathing still slightly hurried. "Something is extremely wrong with that woman. She is far from ordinary."

Trison narrowed his eyes through the swirling smoke, his brow knitting together. "Is she a threat?" he asked coldly.

Double K glanced at Trison, then slid the leather folder across the table toward him. "Whether she’s a threat or not is the real question. To be honest, I’m completely baffled at this point," he replied.

Trison’s brow creased even tighter. He opened the file, pulling out the official surveillance documents and background reports. Skimming through the detailed notes, his eyes locked onto a photo attached to the inner cover.

It was a photograph of Nova. She was wearing an elegant white dress, a delicate, harmless smile gracing her features. She looked gentle, fragile, and utterly devoid of any malice.

"This is her?" Trison asked, his gaze fixed on the photograph.

Double K nodded gravely. "Don’t be fooled by that angelic face. She is a walking wildfire. I managed to dig up information regarding the Sunny family... and you won’t believe it. This lady was the sole cause of the entire family’s destruction. The two brothers turned on each other and fought to the death because of her."

He leaned in closer, his voice dropping. "The terrifying part? Every single official record portrays her as nothing more than an innocent victim. It’s completely baffling."

"The Sunny brothers killed each other over her?" Trison murmured, his eyes darkening.

Double K nodded in agreement.

"Do you have the full details of what happened?" Trison asked.

Double K shook his head. "Before the Sunny brothers died, they seemed to be keeping her hidden—probably trying to hide her from each other. And after their deaths, someone clean swept everything. There isn’t a single shred of evidence proving she intentionally brought down the family, or that she was even directly involved."

A heavy, suffocating silence settled over the room. The roar of the gambling floor below bled softly through the glass, but upstairs, the atmosphere was freezing.

Trison stared down at Nova’s innocent smile in the photograph, his eyes gleaming with dark intrigue. "She’s far too clean to be ignored..." he commented softly.
