System Awakened: I Became the Mafia Kings' Obsession
Chapter 60: She’s just using you!
Logan’s expression turned even colder, and he immediately brought out his gun, pointing it directly at Nova. "Who are you? How did you know my real name?" he questioned, the tension in the hall instantly spiking into a deadly standoff.
Raymond brought out his gun as well, pointing it sharply at Logan without a second thought. "I’m standing right here, and you are pointing a gun at my wife. Do you think I’m dead?" his sharp voice echoed, clearly enraged by Logan’s action. The air crackled with hostility.
Logan was stunned and stared at Raymond in pure disbelief. "Snap out of it, Ray. This girl is suspicious! Don’t be fooled by her appearance," he warned urgently.
Nova snorted coldly. Suddenly, she kicked Logan’s hand with her left leg. The strike was so fast it was a blur, sending the gun flying up into the air. Before Logan could even react, she grabbed the gun mid-air, effortlessly dismantled it in the blink of an eye, and tossed the useless pieces aside.
Logan’s jaw dropped in shock. He stared at Raymond, horrified. "Look... look at her! She’s not just an ordinary lady. You should stay away from her, Ray. I suspect she’s working with these criminals and she’s just using you!" he said in panic.
Raymond put his gun back in his pocket and turned to Nova, ignoring Logan completely. "You aren’t hurt, right?" he asked worriedly, his voice instantly softening.
Nova shook her head. "I’m fine. Don’t you need legitimate evidence? You should take pictures of these men here, it will be enough evidence for you to finish up your investigation," Nova replied calmly.
"Ray... you are really turning a blind eye to what I’m telling you! This lady is definitely using you!" Logan shouted angrily.
"Can you bet your life that I’m using my husband? Because if it turns out that I’m not, you will have to die by jumping from the sky into a pit of sharpened thorns," Nova spoke, her voice dropping to a lethally cold tone.
Logan shivered and was about to speak, but Nova cut him off. "Think carefully before you speak, because if you make that bet now, there is no going back. Even if you have those stupid old men protecting you, I can still kill you easily," she said, staring dead into his eyes with a gaze that promised nothing but destruction.
Logan instinctively took a step backward. "This girl... for her to even know my real name, she’s definitely from a powerful family. Or could it be that she’s also a secret undercover officer? With the way she speaks and how protective Raymond is of her, it only proves she’s not just an ordinary girl. It’s better to observe her first," he thought, staring warily at Nova.
"Forget it. What else did you see when you entered here?" he asked, trying to regain his composure.
Nova hissed lightly and turned back to Raymond. "Hubby, you should be quick and take those pictures," she commented, completely dismissing Logan.
Logan bit his lower lip. "Humph. Just let me confirm you are a spy, you are doomed then. The fact that you are too beautiful makes you even more suspicious," he thought, looking away toward the motionless men.
Raymond nodded, but then he noticed Nova’s outfit. "Wifey, why are you dressed like this?" he asked.
Nova lightly rubbed her nose. "Um... I caused a little chaos, that’s why I’m dressed like this. Don’t worry, you will understand better later. I have something to do now. Take care, okay?" she said, pressing a soft kiss to his lips before leaving the hall swiftly.
Raymond touched his lips, a light blush appearing on his face as he watched Nova’s disappearing figure. "I badly want to hold her longer in my arms," he thought, looking dazed.
Logan noticed Nova leaving and immediately reached for his communicator, about to call for backup to catch her. But Raymond stopped him, his gaze turning glacial.
"It’s useless if you call for backup. I know my wife best. Trust me, you do not want to be on her bad record," Raymond warned, the chilling memory of Ruby’s tragic end flashing through his mind.
"I think she has mixed something into your food. You are no longer in your right mind! We had so much difficulty infiltrating this place, yet she was already here before us, looking perfectly harmless. She’s damn suspicious!" Logan argued.
Raymond glared at Logan, his patience evaporating. "You want to report and arrest my wife?" he questioned, his voice dropping to a dangerous, freezing tone.
Logan folded his arms defensively. "You can’t do your job properly because you are blindly in love with her. Pray I don’t catch her red-handed in any illegal act, or else she is spending the rest of her life in jail. And don’t even think of covering up for her, let me tell you, it’s impossible," he stated firmly.
Raymond was silent for a moment. "Don’t provoke my wife. Even if she doesn’t act against you, someone else will. Even I, personally, will not spare you. That’s my advice," he said coldly. He brought out his camera and started snapping pictures of the motionless captives.
Logan’s jaw dropped again. "Guess I was right. This girl’s family isn’t just ordinary. But I must still pay close attention to her, what if she is planning against Raymond?" he thought.
"Let me help," he offered, staring at Raymond, who was now fully focused on gathering evidence.
"Do your own thing, please, and don’t disturb me," Raymond replied coldly without looking up.
"Are... are you angry now? I was just concerned for you. I... I won’t act without reasoning, you know me. Without solid evidence, trust me, I won’t make any move," Logan stammered.
Raymond didn’t bother to reply, leaving Logan to sigh helplessly in the heavy, blood-scented air.
.....
Late at night...
At an abandoned, old gas station far from the city, the air was thick with dampness and the metallic stench of rust. The tension was suffocating, hanging heavy in the absolute silence of the isolated location.
Edward sat bound to a steel chair, heavily blindfolded, with his hands tied tightly behind his back.
Standing a few feet in front of him was Alex, casually playing with a sharp cutting knife. A twisted, devilish smile stretched across his lips. Behind Alex stood several large men dressed entirely in black, perfectly still, calmly waiting for his order in the dim, flickering light.
"Remove his blindfold," Alex ordered.
One of the men bowed slightly, walked over to Edward, yanked the blindfold off roughly, and retreated to his spot.
Edward opened his eyes, blinking against the harsh light. When his vision cleared, he stared at Alex with bloodshot eyes filled with absolute venom. "Sure enough, it’s you! I didn’t expect you to actually be faster. I still looked down on you, didn’t I?" he commented coldly, refusing to show fear.
Alex sighed dramatically, running the flat edge of the blade against his palm. "What do I do? You just won’t stop bothering me and my love. I will have to clear you out. This way, you won’t be able to bother her, and we can have our wedding with peace of mind. Isn’t that right, Brother?" he replied, bursting into a dark, crazy fit of laughter that echoed chillingly through the empty station.
