System Awakened: I Became the Mafia Kings' Obsession
Chapter 49: They really want to kill me
Cassian cast Raymond a deadly glare and hissed. "Seems like I will have to learn how to cook now," he thought with determination.
Alan smiled and continued eating, while Nova glanced at Cassian and couldn’t help chuckling. The competitive tension in the air was so thick it could be cut with a knife.
Everyone had their fill except Cassian, who was still sulking.
"Cassian, help me arrange my transfer to Alan’s school. I’m attending the same school as him," Nova said.
Alan was overjoyed. "Really, Snow!" He couldn’t hide his excitement.
Nova nodded, smiling warmly.
Cassian glared at Alan. "Damn, why is this bastard so lucky?" he thought, forcing a smile onto his face. "I... I will handle that," he said, sighing helplessly.
"What about me... what should I arrange for you?" Raymond asked immediately, not willing to be left out.
Nova laughed. "School bag and any other things needed for schooling," she replied, standing up. "I have someone to meet. I’ll take my leave first. Be nice to each other," she said, blowing them a flying kiss as she left.
Alan was giggling happily, but then he suddenly felt a deep chill crawl up his spine. He raised his head, only to find Cassian and Raymond staring down at him with a peculiarly dark gaze. The playful atmosphere instantly evaporated, replaced by a suffocating, predatory tension. Obviously, they were up to something bad.
"You... you can’t touch me. Snow will be angry if she finds out you both aren’t nice to me," Alan warned nervously.
"Don’t worry, we will be very nice to you." They both patted his shoulder, a wicked grin spreading on their lips as they stood up and left the dining table.
Alan shivered. "That smile," he murmured. Then his phone started vibrating. He brought it out from his pocket, picking up the call and placing the phone to his ear.
"Boss, is everything okay over there? You have never delayed a mission like this before. Is someone giving you trouble over there?" A loud voice echoed over the phone.
Alan lightly rubbed his forehead. "You know what, cancel the order of assassinating Raymond. Refund whatever amount they paid," he ordered, his voice suddenly turning ice-cold.
"Ah, are we sold out, boss? I will gather everyone now and kill whoever betrayed us."
"Can you always think positively, even if it’s just for once, Silas?" Alan said in a calm voice.
"I... I was just worried. We have many enemies, a simple mistake is not allowed," Silas replied.
"Mhm," Alan nodded. "Don’t worry, I’m fine. Just refund the money and cancel the order. Also, don’t call me randomly again. If I need you, I will call you," he said.
"Yes, boss," Silas replied, and the call was disconnected.
Alan sighed once more, dropping his phone on the table as he continued eating. "The food is not bad," he murmured.
..... At the study room .....
Cassian sat on his chair. Standing in front of him, with the heavy mahogany table between them, was Venom, passing a long brown file to Cassian. The room was deathly quiet, filled with a brooding, mysterious tension that weighed heavily on the air.
"This is the result. The young madam is indeed the biological daughter of the Brown family, but Andrew wasn’t. Instead, his blood type matches one hundred percent with the young madam alone."
"I’m afraid he is indeed the young madam’s son," Venom reported, he himself finding the situation entirely bizarre.
Cassian opened the file, bringing out several papers, and read the information thoroughly. His brows knitted together even more tightly.
"It doesn’t make sense. My wife is only eighteen years old, and that Andrew guy is almost 28. This is getting more complicated," he murmured.
"You might as well ask her. The investigation doesn’t seem to be able to pull out any useful information," Venom suggested.
Cassian lightly shook his head. "She couldn’t remember many things," he replied. "Forget it. I will just have to be extra careful with him when he’s alone with my wife," he added.
"While coming in, I saw a schoolboy at the dining table," Venom commented.
"Him... his name is Alan, my wife’s husband," Cassian replied.
Venom stared longer at Cassian. "It’s men that usually have a harem. I’ve never heard of women piling up men, and you are fine with this?" he asked.
"Whatever makes my wife happy, I have no objection," Cassian replied. "It’s not that bad. At least it makes the house lively," he added.
Venom lowered his head lightly. "True," he murmured.
"Arrange for my wife to transfer to Alan’s school. She wants to start schooling," Cassian ordered.
A surprised expression appeared on Venom’s face, but it disappeared immediately, and he nodded. "I will arrange that," he said and left.
Cassian stared at the file in his hand, his gaze darkening slightly in the silent room. "Andrew," he murmured.
..... LV Grand Coffee Shop .....
Nova entered the shop. It was almost full. As soon as she stepped in, people’s gazes fell on her. Some were admiring her, some were jealous of her breathtaking beauty, and some instantly fell in love with her. The atmosphere shifted, magnetically pulling toward her presence.
She was the center of attention as she entered. Thanks to her unmatched beauty and her unique body constitution, the visible hickeys on her neck had all vanished, leaving only two faint marks that had almost disappeared.
She walked straight to the table that Sonnie had occupied without bothering to search first, then sat on the chair. She stared at Sonnie, who had wrapped her head with a black scarf and wore dark sunglasses. A paranoid, suffocating tension radiated from Sonnie, contrasting sharply with Nova’s cool, dominant demeanor.
"Dressed like this, if they want to kill you, you won’t make it here alive. You won’t even wake up again to see noon, I must say. No need to be hiding," Nova said, taking the cup of coffee on the table and calmly sipping it.
Sonnie’s mouth fell slightly open. "Young madam..." she called noticing the change in Nova’s voice but didn’t dare to ask about it, she removed her scarf, finding Nova’s words to be true.
"They might not kill me now, but... they really want to kill me," Sonnie said in a low voice, her voice shivering with pure fear.
"Say... how did you offend them?" Nova asked.
"I... I just wanted to free my sister from their hands. I’m tired of being a spy here and there, but they have my sister. If I don’t complete the task, they will kill both of us. The young master found out I leaked your information to them and wanted to kill me, but I happened to stumble on their conversation to kill me, so I acted fast and escaped.
"I know the young master didn’t pay me any attention, that’s why even after I escaped he didn’t send men after me. So I went back to them. When I first arrived, I didn’t see anyone. I was dumb to actually think they could be unguarded. I went to where I remembered they locked my sister, but I found no one there.
"Not finding my sister there made me on guard, and I was about to escape but was caught and tortured. They clearly wanted to kill me, the scar on my neck is the evidence. I... I couldn’t remember how I escaped, but I knew someone saved me. That’s how I escaped," she cried.
