Swap Marriage in Ancient Times: Transmigrated to My Stepbrother's Wife
Chapter 206: Request Approved
The next morning, sunlight slowly filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room.
Wang Gege’s eyelashes trembled slightly before her eyes slowly opened.
For a moment, she simply stared at the ceiling, her mind still hazy. Her body felt heavy, and there was a dull ache in her head, as though she had cried for hours.
Then she remembered everything that had happened yesterday.
Wang Gege slowly turned her head. The moment she looked toward the side of the bed, she froze.
Xie Rong was sleeping there.
He had pulled a chair close to the bed and was resting his upper body against it, his head tilted slightly to one side. His blindfold was still in place, and his usually neat robes were slightly wrinkled from sleeping in such an uncomfortable position.
But what caught Wang Gege’s attention was their hands. Even while sleeping, Xie Rong was still holding hers tightly.
Their fingers were intertwined, and his grip had not loosened at all.
Wang Gege blinked several times before calling his name.
"Husband..." She pushed herself up slowly, careful not to pull their joined hands too much. "Husband... hey... wake up..."
Xie Rong didn’t move.
Wang Gege frowned. "Husband?"
She gently tugged at his hand.
Still nothing.
She leaned closer and poked his shoulder with her free hand. "Hey..."
Xie Rong merely shifted slightly, his brows furrowing before he settled back into sleep.
Wang Gege stared at him.
’Was he really sleeping this deeply? In that position?’
"Husband, wake up..." This time, she gave his shoulder a slightly stronger shake.
Xie Rong finally moved. His head lifted slowly, and his expression was still clouded with sleep.
"Furen?" His voice was hoarse and low.
Wang Gege immediately smiled. "Good morning."
Xie Rong blinked a few times before seeming to remember where he was. His gaze dropped to their intertwined hands. Then he looked back at her. "You’re awake."
"Mn." Wang Gege nodded.
She glanced at the chair he had slept on and couldn’t help frowning.
"Did you really sleep like this the whole night?"
Xie Rong glanced at the chair as though only now realizing how uncomfortable it was. "Mm... why?"
"You might hurt your back sleeping like that..."
Xie Rong looked at her for a moment before a faint smile appeared on his lips. "This husband has slept in worse places before."
Wang Gege’s brows knitted together. "That doesn’t mean you should continue doing it."
"All right, I won’t do it anymore..." Xie Rong slowly moved toward the bed and sat at the edge of it. "How do you feel today? Feeling better?"
Wang Gege nodded. "Mm... much better. My head still feels a little heavy, though."
Xie Rong looked at her quietly for a moment. Then his expression became slightly more serious. "You fainted yesterday..."
"I did?" Her eyebrows raised in confusion, "I didn’t remember..."
"And frightened this husband half to death."
Wang Gege’s expression softened. She lowered her gaze, suddenly feeling a little guilty. "Sorry..."
Xie Rong sighed softly. He reached out and gently touched the top of her head. "You don’t need to apologise."
The whole bedchamber was left in silence for a few moments before Xie Rong took another deep breath.
"Furen..."
"Mm?" Wang Gege looked at Xie Rong’s face.
"Do you really wish to go home?" he asked.
Wang Gege’s smile slowly faded. She lowered her gaze, her fingers unconsciously tightening around the blanket.
"Did I say that yesterday?" She looked down at the blanket and continued, "I thought I was dreaming about that..."
She chuckled softly, trying to make light of her own words, but her eyes couldn’t lie.
Xie Rong remained silent.
He could still remember the way she had cried yesterday, repeatedly saying that she wanted to go home. It hadn’t sounded like the words of someone who was merely upset. There had been genuine longing in her voice.
"Furen..." he called again, his voice gentler this time.
Wang Gege slowly looked up.
"If you really want to return..." Xie Rong paused for a moment. "This husband will help you."
Her eyes widened slightly. "You will?"
"Mm." There was no hesitation in his answer.
Wang Gege stared at him, unable to speak for a moment.
Then her lips curved into a faint smile. "But what about you?"
Xie Rong’s expression remained calm. "What about this husband?"
"If I go home... what will you do?" She asked clearly.
"Isn’t it obvious?" Xie Rong smiled genuinely. "If Furen goes back home, this husband will follow..."
He raised his hand and gently rubbed her cheek.
Wang Gege blinked at him. "You’ll follow me?"
"Of course."
"But what about your family here? Your father, your grandmother, and everyone else?"
Xie Rong’s thumb gently brushed away the faint tear stain still lingering beneath her eye.
"This world was never mine to begin with..." he said softly. "The original Xie Rong was supposed to die, and this world has already tried to kick this husband out a few times."
He chuckled lightly. "So, before it tries again, wouldn’t it be better for this husband to leave first?"
Wang Gege looked at him quietly, "But... can we really leave? We already submitted a request to change the final reward..."
Xie Rong’s smile faded slightly. "Mm. That is the troublesome part."
"If the request is approved, doesn’t that mean the reward will be changed?" Wang Gege asked. "Then what if the final reward isn’t returning to our original world anymore?"
Xie Rong fell silent for a moment.
"We should withdraw the request first, right? Since it hasn’t been approved yet..."
Wang Gege blinked. "Can we?"
"This husband doesn’t know." He glanced toward the empty space where Gemi usually appeared. "We can ask Gemi."
Wang Gege immediately nodded. "Then ask."
Xie Rong took a breath. "Gemi."
But nothing happened after a few moments.
He frowned. "Gemi?"
Still nothing.
Wang Gege tilted her head. "Should I call Mini instead?"
Xie Rong nodded. "Furen should..."
"Okay..." Wang Gege gulped before calling softly. "Mini...?"
A familiar sparkly dusk of gold suddenly appeared before them, and Mini emerged from within it, bouncing happily in the air.
"Host!" Before Wang Gege could even ask anything, Mini excitedly spun around her. "Host! Mini has good news!"
Wang Gege blinked. "What is it?"
Mini’s little golden body sparkled even brighter. "The request to change the final reward has been approved!"
