Chapter 285: Selected?
An entire week went by in a flash.
Rayne and Helmi were busy with their ‘beauty’ training, where the morning classes taught them about specific hygiene and makeup application, and the evening classes taught them how to move their bodies to be more pleasing to the eyes.
Although Rayne was a natural beauty, she still had to put in a lot of effort in order to perform well in her classes, even though she hated every minute.
“Great work, ladies. This concludes the last introductory class. Leader Rose will assign you to more specific classes based on her evaluations.”
Rayne wiped the sweat from her brow. Some of the moves they were forced to learn required a lot of core strength. She followed the others out and made her way back to their room.
The other ladies were too exhausted to strike up a conversation and flopped down onto their beds as soon as they arrived. Rayne walked over to her small bed in the corner of the room and took a seat.
“What do you think they’ll have us do next?” Helmi asked, taking a seat beside her.
Rayne shook her head, “I’m not sure, but I hope we performed well enough not to have to take more classes.”
Helmi frowned, “Why? I thought you hated the idea of being sent to please men. You seem eager to do well now.”
“I do hate the idea. It’s just that there’s something I need to do, and to achieve that, I need to get paired up with the boss of this place,” said Rayne.
Helmi looked at her for a brief moment with a slight surprise, but didn’t ask further. They sat in silence for a few minutes before Helmi shot her a small smile. “Well, if there’s anyone with the skills and beauty to get sent to the boss, it’s you.”
Rayne flashed her a meek smile. She would use any advantage she had in order to end Damien. It was the only way to live a peaceful life.
Her thoughts traveled to the small base. It had come together much better than she ever anticipated, and now, dozens of people were able to live happily with the hope of a better future. This was her dream now, and she would do anything in her power to make it happen.
The door suddenly swung open, bringing Rayne out of her thoughts.
“Ladies! Gather round, I have some wonderful news to share with you all. Tamara has been personally selected by one of the upper leaders. Let’s give her a round of applause!”
The room clapped as Tamara stood up, beaming as if she had just won an award. She walked over to Leader Rose and clasped her hands.
“Do you truly mean it? Is he a powerful man?” she asked, getting straight to the point.
Leader Rose nodded, “Yes, not only is he powerful, he’s also very wealthy. Do your best to serve him well, and your life here will be better than that of celebrities!”
Rayne lifted her eyebrow at Leader Rose’s words. If she could make such bold claims, they must have many resources stockpiled here.
Tamara squealed with joy. “Yay! There are so many things I want from that storeroom! Leader Rose, when can I meet him? Is he attractive? Oh, I bet all of the leaders are handsome!”
Helmi scoffed. “He’s probably an old man. She wants rich, powerful, AND attractive? I don’t think so.”
Rayne nodded, agreeing with her. There was no guarantee that these men were handsome, on top of being the leaders of this criminal organization.
Leader Rose smiled and placed her hand gracefully on top of Tamara’s shoulder. “I’m loving your enthusiasm. This is exactly the kind of thing we wish to provide. You have two hours to get ready. Someone will come for you after dinner. I’ll bring you to the storeroom to pick out an outfit.”
The other girls looked at Tamara with envy. Jealousy was clearly displayed on each of their faces. “What about us, Leader Rose?” one of the other girls spoke up.
“You all will be split up into further training. I’ve received feedback on each one of your strengths and weaknesses. Work hard, and you might have a chance of being selected. Let me remind you, if an entire month goes by without you being selected after today, you will be removed from the program.”
While her words sounded sweet, there was a subtle threat behind them.
All of the ladies nodded, understanding that they had to work hard in order to live a comfortable life here.
“I can’t believe they’re so willing. None of them even seem bothered by what they’re meant to do,” Helmi whispered angrily.
“We don’t know if the alternative is even worse,” Rayne replied. There was a good chance that failing out of this program meant being passed around by the lower-ranked grunts.
“Rayne, I also want you to come with me,” Leader Rose suddenly announced.
Everyone turned to look at Rayne, curious why she was being pulled out.
“Did she also get selected?” Tamara asked nervously.
“No. Not yet, but maybe soon.”
Tamara’s mouth curved up into a haughty smile. She flashed Rayne a victorious look before strutting over to stand beside Leader Rose.
Rayne calmly stood up and walked over, ignoring Tamara’s provocations. Though she appeared calm and collected, inside, her heart was beating wildly.
Please be Damien, please be Damien.
Her biggest fear was catching the attention of anyone other than Damien. She wasn’t planning letting any man other than Julian touch her, even if it meant she would have to kill them. The problem was to avoid suspicion.
Leader Rose led her and Tamara out of the room and down the hall. They first stopped by the storeroom.
“Tamara, go pick out an outfit for tonight. I hear that your client is fond of dark colors,” she said before turning to Rayne. “You’re only meeting with a third party, but it’s important to make an impression. If things go well, your client would be someone very important.”
Tamara ignored Leader Rose’s words and ran off to find herself a sexy outfit. Rayne, however, stood frozen in place. Her mind was spinning wildly as she considered the possibility of this ‘important man’ being her target, Damien.
