Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Corpse Suppression Rune

She fed the Sunflower some nutrient liquid, then turned on the lantern and placed it beside the plant. Only after confirming that the Sunflower had begun producing sunshine did she relax and settle down to paint runes.

Time was precious! Seraphina Sinclair wouldn’t waste a single moment!

Now that she had monster blood, it was the perfect time to try her hand at the Corpse Suppression Rune.

Perhaps it was because the last two runes were on F+ rune paper, but now, drawing a simple F-level rune suddenly felt much less difficult for Seraphina Sinclair.

Of course, the more likely reason was the boost from the Silver Moon Earrings.

’Whatever the reason, the results were what mattered!’

At first, Seraphina Sinclair’s attention was divided, keeping an eye on the Sunflower. But after a few failures, she focused her entire mind on the rune paper.

She drew over a dozen Corpse Suppression Runes in one go, followed by a few Blood Stopping Talismans. Just as Seraphina Sinclair took a deep breath, intending to draw a couple of Fire Drawing Runes, she suddenly noticed the Sunflower to the side. It had long since depleted its Hunger Level and was nestled obediently in its pot.

She slapped her forehead and hurriedly put away her rune pen and tools. ’I almost forgot to move!’

’I need to get started. Any more delays and it’ll be dark.’

The door card instantly materialized in Seraphina Sinclair’s hand. It was also stored in the Silver Moon Earrings, making it much more convenient to retrieve.

She held the card, but didn’t immediately infuse it with sunshine.

Beside it lay the compass she had repaired. Now that it was fixed, it was time to put it to use.

Seraphina Sinclair held the compass level, and its needle pointed straight ahead.

Seraphina Sinclair noted the direction, then infused the door card with 100 sunshine.

’I’ll head forward for now and see what happens!’

The moment the compass needle swung dramatically, Seraphina Sinclair would infuse it with sunshine without hesitation.

The allure of the lake in the sky was considerable.

Of course, what Seraphina Sinclair wanted wasn’t the water, but the creatures living within it!

’I wonder if there are any other ingredients besides the Black Mist Catfish.’

Seraphina Sinclair clutched the compass, lost in these pleasant thoughts for a moment. She only put it back into her Silver Moon Earrings just as the first wave of black mist was about to pour in.

Today was off to a good start; a monster appeared with the very first wave of black mist.

Seraphina Sinclair’s Constitution had increased by two points, making it much easier for her to pinpoint the monster’s location within the black mist.

After easily dispatching the Rotting Corpse that had wandered in, Seraphina Sinclair took the resulting mucus to feed her Sunflower.

The Sunflower was clearly different today.

Previously, no matter how ravenous the Sunflower got, it would always wait obediently in its pot for Seraphina Sinclair to bring it food. Today, however, it craned its head forward as if terrified the mucus would get away.

’Yummy... there’s yummy food!’

It wasn’t just its behavior that was strange; the tone of its thoughts was odd, too.

But that obviously wasn’t going to stop Seraphina Sinclair from feeding it.

The Sunflower ate with great relish, even finding a moment to exclaim internally, ’Finally... I finally get to eat...’

Seraphina Sinclair understood at once. The Sunflower had been craving it since that morning, but the monsters from the instance dungeon hadn’t dropped any mucus.

It was like a person trekking through the desert for ages, finally finding a bottle of water, only to discover it was filled with saltwater the moment they thought they could finally drink their fill.

Undrinkable.

How devastating.

Seraphina Sinclair completely understood the Sunflower. Seeing its frantic haste, she reached out and poked its cheek. "Slow down, there might be more later."

Seraphina Sinclair had no conviction in her own words.

But when you’re placating a child, the "placating" is what matters.

’The Sunflower can’t understand my words anyway,’ she thought. ’It’s the sentiment that counts!’

Seraphina Sinclair felt much more at ease with that thought.

However, during the next two black mist surges, it was as if the mist itself had overheard her conversation with the Sunflower; it delivered two Rotting Corpses in a row.

’Well, the Sunflower sure is lucky.’

Seraphina Sinclair fed the mucus to the Sunflower, then casually opened the F-level Supply Box the Rotting Corpse had brought with it.

[Congratulations! You have obtained: Earth x10, Stone x5, Metal Fragments x5]

’Not bad. That’s enough for four sheets of rune paper.’

Seraphina Sinclair shook her head. She hadn’t gotten her hopes up in the first place, so she wasn’t particularly disappointed.

She took out the compass for a look. Unfortunately, the needle hadn’t moved.

Seraphina Sinclair took out the door card. She hesitated for a moment before infusing it with sunshine, ultimately deciding to put in only 100.

’The needle might turn this time,’ she reasoned. ’If I infuse everything into the door card now, any change in the compass will have been for nothing.’

This black mist surge also yielded three F-level Supply Boxes. She opened them one by one and fell silent after confirming there were no blueprints.

’It’s like the blueprints have just vanished.’

’A few days ago, I was getting one almost every time, but recently I haven’t seen a single one.’

’Strange. Very strange.’

She had previously guessed they could be found in any F-level Supply Box, but judging by the rarity of blueprints discussed in the regional channel, she knew it couldn’t be that simple to obtain them.

The one thing that set Seraphina Sinclair apart from those people was likely her Bronze Door Card.

So, she had assumed that her rewards might be slightly better than others’ because she had the Bronze Door Card.

But now, even with the Bronze Door Card, the blueprints had disappeared.

This meant one of two things: either there were other conditions at play, or finding blueprints had nothing to do with the Bronze Door Card at all.

Unfortunately, Seraphina Sinclair knew very little about this world, and the Black Mist World Atlas was no help with this sort of problem. She could only hold on to her questions for now and wait for the day she found the answers.

She shook her head, pushing the jumbled thoughts from her mind.

’I still have 100 sunshine left. The sooner I finish moving, the sooner the rest of the time is my own.’

She gripped the door card, and just as she was about to infuse it with sunshine, she thought of the compass again. She took it out, almost as a matter of procedure, and glanced at it. The needle’s direction had actually changed!

In fact, it had nearly done a complete 180-degree turn!

This meant her mobile cabin must have passed by the lake in the sky during the last move.

Seraphina Sinclair’s grip on the compass tightened, and she instinctively glanced out the window.

The world outside was still shrouded in black mist. How could she possibly see anything through the heavy, oppressive fog?

She turned her head back and couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh. ’I’m still not used to this,’ she thought. ’Actually thinking I could confirm the lake’s position through the window.’

Seraphina Sinclair stared at the compass needle for a long while, then suddenly came to a decision.

’It’s just 100 sunshine. I’ll take the gamble!’

Seraphina Sinclair took a deep breath and slowly infused the remaining 100 points of her sunshine energy into the compass.

The moment the first wisp of golden light touched the bronze surface, the needle began to vibrate violently, emitting a metallic HUM.

"It’s reacting!"

She stared intently at the compass. Fine, golden lines surfaced on the needle, spreading out from the center like veins.

When the last of the sunshine was infused, the entire compass had turned a dazzling gold. The needle spun wildly for several rotations before locking into place with a sharp CLICK, pointing in a direction it never had before.

Just as Seraphina Sinclair was expecting some great commotion to follow, a pop-up window suddenly appeared before her.
