Survive in the Black Mist: My Sunflower Can Navigate
Chapter 456 - 455: Rabbit
Chapter 456: Chapter 455: Rabbit
"I want to acquire some expansion essences."
"Expansion essences?" 001 mused for a moment. "My lady, that stuff is a real rarity these days. There’s demand, but no supply."
"I know." Seraphina Sinclair gave it a meaningful glance and continued, "That’s why I’m asking you."
001’s eyes darted about, a thoughtful expression appearing on its little face. It looked just like a little fox doing calculations.
Though, to be fair, that’s what it always looked like.
It shuffled over to Seraphina Sinclair’s side in its slippers and looked up. "My lady, how many do you want?"
Seraphina Sinclair thought for a moment but didn’t give an exact number. "The more, the better, of course."
Future upgrades for the mobile cabin all required this item. Relying on the few she got from Supply Boxes, Seraphina Sinclair had no idea how long it would take to save up enough.
That’s why she had decided to use 001, the Traveling Merchant, to acquire some for her.
001’s brow furrowed. The expression on its little face shifted from "scheming little fox" to "accountant facing a tough problem." The change was so fast that Seraphina Sinclair wondered if the little guy had been secretly practicing facial expressions behind her back.
"My lady," it began, choosing its words carefully, "if you want a dozen or so, I can get them for you today. But if you want more..."
It paused, holding up one finger.
"Under a hundred will take a week. Over five hundred, a month."
Seraphina Sinclair nodded.
’Scarcity creates value.’ She understood that principle.
The reason expansion essences were so rare right now was simply that everyone had just entered a new area. The supply was naturally low, let alone the number of people willing to trade them away.
But just because they were rare now didn’t mean they’d still be rare in a week or a month.
Seraphina Sinclair pointed this out, and 001 deeply agreed.
But it sighed, its "little adult" demeanor looking rather comical on its childish face.
"My lady, have you not checked the trading channel in a while? This expansion essence stuff has been hyped to insane levels ever since it appeared. And it’s not just expansion essences. Do you know the current price for anything with the word ’essence’ in its name?"
Seraphina Sinclair said nothing, waiting for it to continue.
held up three fingers.
"Three thousand Black Fog Coins each. And that’s the lowest price."
Seraphina Sinclair’s eyebrow twitched.
Three thousand???
Seraphina Sinclair instantly thought of the three she had gotten from Supply Boxes. So that was a whole nine thousand Black Fog Coins?!
"And there’s demand, but no supply," 001 continued. "The instant one gets listed, it’s snatched up. I know a few Traveling Merchants who specialize in scalping. They stare at the trading channel all day, and the moment an expansion essence appears, they pounce on it like rabid dogs."
Seraphina Sinclair was silent for two seconds.
She recalled her earlier "the more, the better" comment and suddenly felt her face flush with embarrassment.
"In that case, just get twelve for now," she said. "The price can be a little higher than market, but not ridiculously so."
nodded, pulled a small notebook from its pocket, and dutifully wrote it down.
"Don’t you worry, my lady. When I’m on the job, you can rest easy!"
Watching its earnest expression, Seraphina Sinclair’s lips curled into a slight smile. She went on to list several other items she wanted to acquire.
jotted down each one, then clutched its notebook and bid Seraphina Sinclair farewell, saying it was time to get to work.
Seraphina Sinclair nodded and watched the little creature leave.
Today’s sunshine had already been harvested. She added it to the reserves she’d built up over the last few days by diligently taking the Sunflower out to bask in the sun...
Seraphina Sinclair sighed, resignedly infused the sunshine into her door card, and initiated the move!
The first monster to visit the cabin today looked like a giant cockroach, but it was far more disgusting.
Its body was covered in eyes, each one constantly swiveling, making Seraphina Sinclair’s skin crawl.
This was a D-level monster. Aside from launching a Spiritual Attack on Seraphina Sinclair with its appearance, it couldn’t even touch the hem of her clothes.
Two minutes later, after being struck seven or eight times by Water Dragon Roar, the monster was dead for good.
She obtained a D-level Supply Box.
The second one was also D-level, but much weaker than the first. It looked like a moving pile of sludge and was burned to ash by a single rune from Seraphina Sinclair.
It also dropped only a D-level Supply Box.
Seraphina Sinclair was a little disappointed.
Yes, disappointed.
Although drops for C-level materials were now enabled, you couldn’t get C-level items from a D-level Supply Box, so naturally, she couldn’t obtain any of the materials she wanted.
After another fifteen-minute wait, the third monster to enter finally got Seraphina Sinclair excited.
A C-level monster: a giant spider.
At first, Seraphina Sinclair was just marveling that it was rare to see such a normal-looking creature anymore. But on closer inspection, she saw that the monster’s eight legs were covered in barbs, and something was hanging from each one.
When she saw what they were, Seraphina Sinclair almost threw up.
They were human teeth.
Dense rows of them, hundreds or thousands of human teeth, hung from the spider’s legs like trophies.
Seraphina Sinclair gave it no chance.
Water Dragon Roar was unsheathed, and within three minutes, she had hacked the spider to pieces.
The C-level monster naturally dropped a C-level Supply Box. Seraphina Sinclair casually opened it and received two Black Fog Essences.
Seraphina Sinclair: "..."
’Great. The Supply Box had let her down just like that.’
Seraphina Sinclair adjusted her mindset and waited for the final surge of Black Fog from this batch of a hundred sunshine.
The fog rolled in, thick and heavy, obscuring Seraphina Sinclair’s vision.
She put on her Single Lens, and her brow immediately furrowed.
This time, what entered with the Black Fog was...
A rabbit?
Seraphina Sinclair stared intently at the rabbit.
It was indeed a rabbit, pure white, with long ears, red eyes, and a fluffy tail. It was no different from the rabbits she had seen in her previous world. It sat there, holding a carrot between its two front paws, munching away with a CRUNCH, CRUNCH, completely ignoring Seraphina Sinclair’s arrival.
Seraphina Sinclair did not let her guard down.
’How could there possibly be an ordinary rabbit in this world?’
’And even if there were! It shouldn’t be entering a survivor’s mobile cabin along with the Black Fog, should it?!’
Seraphina Sinclair frowned and observed it carefully.
[Rabbit (B-level)]
[Description: A rabbit that likes carrots. It’s cute, isn’t it?]
[Weakness: Afraid of being turned into roasted rabbit meat.]
Huh?
A rabbit that likes carrots? And is afraid of being turned into roasted rabbit meat?
And it’s B-level!
No matter how she looked at it, this creature was bizarre. Seraphina Sinclair gripped Water Dragon Roar, not daring to advance rashly.
The rabbit didn’t move. It remained squatting there, nibbling on its carrot, its red eyes glancing at her from time to time as if waiting for her to approach, or perhaps mocking her caution.
Seraphina Sinclair suddenly smiled. She slowly raised Water Dragon Roar.
The rabbit’s movements paused. A flicker of confusion flashed in its red eyes, as if it couldn’t understand why this prey wasn’t bewitched by its cute appearance like all the others.
It even tilted its head, its two long ears swaying along with the movement, a sight cute enough to melt anyone’s heart.
But Seraphina Sinclair’s heart had long since hardened into stone.
