Survive in the Black Mist: My Sunflower Can Navigate
Chapter 339: To Sever
Chapter 339: Chapter 339: To Sever
With a low shout, her body moved like a slippery eel. She followed the force and direction of the lashing tentacle, slipping past it by a hair’s breadth. As she spun, her dagger plunged with unerring precision into a node where the tentacle met the main body.
Though the wound from this strike was small, its impact was enormous!
The dagger’s inherent glow did indeed have a special effect. Seraphina Sinclair saw it clearly: the moment the tentacle was struck, it looked as if it had been torn apart, and then it was brutally severed.
The sight was horrifying, but Seraphina Sinclair wasn’t surprised in the least.
She had long suspected Fayestar was more than she seemed, so it made sense that she had a trick like this up her sleeve.
But when Fayestar turned and caught sight of the spear in Seraphina Sinclair’s hands, her pupils constricted. "A B-level Weapon?"
"Yes." Seraphina Sinclair didn’t deny it. Her gaze swept over the severed tentacle, which was still writhing on the ground and slowly beginning to regenerate. She raised an eyebrow slightly. "Your dagger is quite something, too."
Fayestar ignored the comment, speaking quickly instead. "So we know each other. You’re in Chrona’s group chat, aren’t you?"
Seraphina Sinclair didn’t even glance at her. "If we don’t attack soon, that tentacle will be fully restored."
’Regenerated?’
Fayestar froze at her words. Whipping her head around, she saw the tentacle she had just severed squirming, on the verge of reattaching itself to the main body.
A vein throbbed on her forehead. Her fingers tightened around her dagger as she quickly counted the tentacles on the Rotsea Emberfiend. "Nine total," she bit out. "I’ll take five, you take four. Let’s move together and sever them all!"
The moment the words left her mouth, she charged forward, dagger in hand, without waiting for Seraphina Sinclair’s agreement.
’She seemed so level-headed, but she’s this reckless when she lets her anger get to her.’
Exasperated, Seraphina Sinclair had no choice. Fayestar was already charging in, so she gripped her Water-Breaking Spear and followed.
The dagger’s tearing effect was exceptionally effective against the tentacles; she could sever one with nearly every strike.
Fayestar just needed to keep dodging the Rotsea Emberfiend’s attacks and strike at precisely the right moments to take off another tentacle.
Seraphina Sinclair, however, was having trouble. The Water-Breaking Spear was great for Armor Breaking, but it was ill-suited for cutting.
And her Gray Long Blade of Mist was only a D-level Weapon; it couldn’t even pierce the creature’s hide, much less sever a tentacle.
After severing another tentacle, Fayestar noticed Seraphina Sinclair’s predicament.
She chuckled, wiping her dagger with a flick of her hand. "Go for its poison mist vents!"
’Getting ordered around isn’t fun, but the battlefield is unpredictable, and my safety is tied to Fayestar’s. This isn’t the time to argue.’
Seraphina Sinclair immediately raised her spear, turning her attention to the vents on the monster’s body.
But before she could throw the spear, the vents spewed a thick, dark green mist, forcing Seraphina Sinclair to turn away.
Using the momentum from her turn, her spear struck like a coiling dragon. Seraphina Sinclair circled the beast, and in a flurry of strikes, she destroyed most of its vents.
Fayestar hadn’t been idle either. Her dagger, though short, was incredibly sharp.
By the time Seraphina Sinclair completed her circle, Fayestar had severed the last of the monster’s tentacles.
The two met behind the Rotsea Emberfiend and had just begun to catch their breath when the creature, driven mad by its injuries, went into a complete frenzy.
Its bloated body convulsed. All of its pustules burst at once, spraying out a thick, dark green poison mist. The noxious fog, reeking of a pungent, foul odor and radiating intense Spiritual Pollution, instantly enveloped the area!
Simultaneously, its Regeneration rate suddenly doubled.
As the two watched in astonishment, the tentacles sprouted back like willow branches in spring, regenerating completely in an instant.
The nine new tentacles no longer delivered simple strikes. Now, they were a frenzied web of whips, shrieking through the air and carrying the toxic mist as they lashed out at Seraphina Sinclair and Fayestar!
"Fall back!"
Seraphina Sinclair and Fayestar leaped back at almost the same instant.
The mist was far more concentrated and corrosive than before. Inhaling just a wisp sent a piercing pain through their heads, blurring their vision and making their movements sluggish.
And the new tentacles were more flexible and powerful than before, their attack patterns far more unpredictable.
Despite retreating with all her might, Fayestar was hit.
A tentacle grazed her calf. The combat suit she wore ripped on contact, and a searing, corrosive pain shot through her skin. She stumbled, her movements faltering.
"Fayestar!" Lyra Lowell, standing outside the monster’s attack range, cried out involuntarily, her eyes wide with worry and fixed on Fayestar.
Fayestar, not yet steady on her feet, clenched her jaw at the sound.
’I’m out here fighting for my life, and that damn Lyra Lowell just stands there screaming!’
’Not only is she useless, but she’s breaking my concentration.’
Fayestar subconsciously blamed Lyra Lowell for the injury, completely forgetting that she had been hit *before* Lyra Lowell shouted.
Seraphina Sinclair dodged, her mind racing to find a solution.
’The tentacles are more than twice as fast now. If I just keep dodging, I’ll end up just like Fayestar.’
With that thought, Seraphina Sinclair glanced toward Fayestar.
The monster’s tentacles were clearly venomous. In just a few moments, the calf where Fayestar had been struck turned a bruised purple. It seemed to have a paralytic effect as well; her movements became labored, her Speed cut by more than half.
Before, when she was running at full tilt, the tentacles couldn’t keep up with her.
Now, however, they toyed with her like a cat with a mouse, whipping around her, grazing her combat suit, and leaving fresh corrosive marks and bruises.
Fayestar’s face was pale and beaded with cold sweat. Her movements grew increasingly strained, supported only by sheer grit and her agile footwork.
’She’s going to die here if this keeps up!’
"Fayestar! Fall back toward Lyra Lowell!"
Seraphina Sinclair acted decisively. She swept her spear, temporarily repelling two tentacles, and shouted toward Alaric Hawthorn and Lyra Lowell:
"Alaric Hawthorn, distract the tentacles! Lyra Lowell, find an opening and cover Fayestar!"
Alaric Hawthorn, who had been itching to join the fray, let out a battle cry and charged forward, spear leveled.
His spear was only D-level and couldn’t even scratch the tentacles. After parrying just two blows, the vast difference in power became painfully clear. His face went pale, but he managed to draw some of the pressure off Fayestar.
Seraphina Sinclair continued to fight while retreating. The moment she crossed the threshold of the room, the Rotsea Emberfiend seemed to lose its target and faltered. Only then did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Fayestar’s tense body went slack, and she collapsed flat on the floor.
She reached into her boot and fumbled around for a moment before pulling out a vial of Healing Potion. Without a second thought for where it had been stored, she uncapped it and downed it in one go.
The Healing Potion took effect quickly, but this was, after all, an injury inflicted by a C-level monster.
