Supreme Swordsman System
Chapter 75 - Found the Book
Chapter 75: 75 - Found the Book
A few seconds ago, King had actually thought that all the top human cultivators had gone crazy, but now he felt like he had been slapped in the face.
Since Iris had said so, then Supreme Scripture Pavilion obviously wasn’t as important as its name suggested.
It wasn’t that everything handwritten here was meaningless, but this wasn’t the academy’s actual repository of strategic knowledge.
"Wait, if this place isn’t that important, then where do other cultivators usually look for advanced cultivation materials?"
As soon as he asked, King immediately thought of the Internet, computers, phones, USB drives... There were plenty of things that could work better than this crappy wooden house and pile of waste paper.
"Technology is really advanced nowadays. Come to think of it, the corruption that started ten years ago is what pushed technology to develop faster than ever before.
As long as cultivators reach rank III, they can access information suitable for their level if they’re academy members, teachers, or other types of academy personnel."
The more Iris explained, the more confused King became. He didn’t understand the details, but he knew for sure that he could access the information he needed from home instead of coming here.
"Then what am I?"
"You’re a top-secret member."
Iris stuck out her tongue and answered as if it were a joke. With this answer, King really couldn’t figure out what exactly he was to the academy right now.
How secret was he supposed to be? He had seen how the academy operated. They concealed information to the point that it was as if he didn’t exist in this world.
For someone like King, who loved showing off, he wasn’t happy about it at all. But being unhappy wouldn’t stop them, since he had no idea where to start.
"How secret am I? What authority do I have?"
Being secret or standing out didn’t matter. What King cared about now was his authority.
There was no doubt about Adrian’s favor toward him, but he couldn’t run to the principal every time something big or small happened.
"You’re so secret that you don’t even have an ID. That means you can’t access the system like everyone else. As far as the benefits of being a regular member go, you have nothing."
"Are you kidding me? I really don’t have any authority at all?"
After hearing Iris, King’s eyelids twitched. It was true that he hadn’t contributed anything to the cultivation academy, nor did he have any official status, but this was going a bit too far.
"That’s right."
Iris nodded firmly. As she nodded, the corners of her mouth curled up slightly, but she didn’t actually laugh.
"Can you stop curling your lips when you talk? What’s so funny about this? I don’t give a damn about the academy’s trivial privileges. As long as I have enough strength, I can do whatever I want."
Although he wasn’t happy about it, King spoke firmly with his arrogant personality. His attitude clearly showed that he didn’t need the academy, rather than that he lacked authority.
"Mm, think whatever you want. But actually, you have a lot of authority. It just doesn’t follow the usual rules."
"What do you mean?"
Iris suddenly changed her tone, making King frown. One moment she said he had no authority, and the next she said he had a lot. What was that supposed to mean?
"I mean, if you’re willing to swallow your pride and beg me, almost everything becomes very simple. Want to give it a try?"
Iris put her arm around King’s shoulder and whispered in his ear. Her seductive whisper felt no different from a punch to his ear.
"Get lost! Go to sleep. You can have anything you want in your dreams."
King pushed Iris’s hand away and started flipping through the books one by one, looking for what he needed.
"Hmph, you’re all talk. Didn’t you need my help just now?"
No matter what she said, he couldn’t be bothered to respond now. Tsunderes could be cute sometimes, but the more he talked to her, the more annoying she became.
"Tsk, how dare you ignore me? Hmph, I’m holding the exact book you need right now. If you don’t turn around, you won’t find it even in your next life."
When King wasn’t paying attention, Iris had gone to the bookshelf and taken out a book.
The quality of its cover, paper, and ink was all pretty good. Since it was a high-quality book, it looked quite new compared to the other books around it.
Hearing her incredibly punchable tone, the veins on his forehead bulged. He immediately stopped flipping through the books.
If he stubbornly kept searching now, it would be no different from admitting that he was an idiot.
But thinking about how he had spent hours searching only to be unable to find the book he needed on his own made King feel very annoyed.
Hmph, she’s definitely doing this on purpose to make a fool out of me. Tsk, just this once. Once the phoenix egg hatches, I won’t let her ride it. Hehe... No matter how much she cries and begs then, I still won’t let her.
King used that uncertain future to soothe his current frustration.
With his arrogance and excessive confidence, he genuinely believed that this beautiful future would definitely come soon.
"Give it to me."
As soon as he turned around, he held out his palm. His attitude while asking for help was really punchable, but Iris still placed the book in his hand.
"Read it. This book contains the experience of a well-read and knowledgeable senior. I think you should be able to understand it all pretty quickly."
Although he was annoyed, King became quite interested when he heard that the book had been written by a respected figure.
"Really? Let me take a look..."
"Mm... Not bad, not bad. The handwriting isn’t very pretty, but it’s free and unrestrained. The concise writing style that gets straight to the point really suits my taste."
As he read, King nodded in appreciation. The contents of this book were both interesting and exactly what he needed.
The more he read, the more favorable his impression of the author became. This very thing exposed the contradiction in his thinking.
He looked down on everyone in the world, yet he was interested in books written by a knowledgeable character.
Perhaps this was a kind of trick played by the brain. Because he respected books, that respect naturally extended to the people who wrote them.
