Chapter 547 - Master Rooster’s Wisdom!

  • Next Chapter

After Gu Han thought about the three half-saint herbs he had given to the Lin family as a deposit, he felt a bit of a sting. I can’t be at a loss! Time to scavenge!

Ignoring the rooster and dog that were still going at it, he arrived deep within the Lin family’s grounds. He soon located the entrance to their secret realm. Even though he didn’t have the correct method, he had learned the restriction-breaking methods from Qian Ye back then, so it didn’t take him much effort to get inside.

The secret realm was huge. Inside, the waters were clear, and the mountains were lush. Exotic flowers and strange grasses grew everywhere. The spirit opportunity here was more than ten times outside.

Within the secret realm, there were four restrictions. Three of them contained a saint herb, while the last contained seven or eight half-saint herbs. One half-saint herb even faintly emanated the aura of the Great Dao’s laws, as if it were about to evolve into a saint herb.

Gu Han sighed with emotion. “This is great. These saint herbs really have fate with me!”

Even a Feather Transformation cultivator would be powerless to break such formidable restrictions. But his cultivation couldn’t be measured by ordinary standards. It took some effort, but he managed to break through each restriction, taking everything inside.

Among the half-saint herbs was a rare one that nourished the soul, which he immediately consumed. Moments later, the last bit of damage to his divine soul fully recovered. He swept his gaze around and soon spotted a three-story white jade pavilion at the center of the secret realm.

With a sigh, he flickered over to the pavilion. “I sure know how to enjoy life!”

There, he saw a plump old man sitting cross-legged, his eyes closed in meditation. His beard, hair, eyebrows, and even his robe were all white. His eyebrows were half-chi long, making him look even more like an immortal.

Gu Han was taken aback. “Isn’t this Old Ancestor Changmei?”

After that giant beast devoured his Dharma manifestation, the physical body before Gu Han seemed to be nothing more than an empty shell. Showing Changmei no respect whatsoever, Gu Han helped himself to all the resources the Lin family had stockpiled in the pavilion. Of course, he didn’t forget the storage ring on Changmei’s hand, either.

He turned stern. “Fellow Daoist Changmei, I am Fu Yulin. I feel I should explain a few things to you. The Lin family took my deposit but didn’t deliver, which I don’t find quite right. But I am not a petty person, so I won’t hold it against you. Of course, my deposit still belongs to me, so I have to take it back—”

Changmei, who had shown no signs of life, opened his eyes.

Gu Han’s heart tightened as he put some distance between them. “You’re not dead?”

With how weak Changmei’s aura was, no one would believe he was in the Saint realm. His eyes were wide with rage, fixed hatefully on Gu Han. Moreover, his gaze was full of venom, no longer bearing any resemblance to the immortal-like figure from before. Though he wasn’t dead, he might as well have been.

After all, he had condensed ninety-nine percent of his divine soul and cultivation into that Manifestation technique, leaving only the thinnest thread within his body to sustain his life. Thus, when he sensed someone entering the secret realm, he simply played dead, knowing he was no match.

By letting the intruder take the resources and leave, he could survive. After all, aside from those twisted and malicious types, ordinary people had no interest in destroying his physical body.

But then, he heard Gu Han’s words and lost it. “Fuck you, Fu Yulin! Shameless bastard! I curse you to die a miserable death!”

With those words, all his pent-up fury poured out completely. The light in his eyes quickly faded, and his last wisp of life force went silent.

Gu Han was speechless. He rubbed his nose, quietly comforting himself. It’s okay. It should be fine. He cursed that fat bastard. What’s that got to do with me?

His mood then improved considerably. He swept his divine senses over Changmei’s storage ring and began inspecting its contents. “A Soul Crystal?!”

Just like that, he forgot all about Changmei’s curses. Joyfully, Gu Han pulled out a pinky-sized black crystal from the storage ring. It contained stronger soul power than the one the Yinshan Old Ancestor had possessed. What an unexpected gain!

As he continued his inspection, he found another peculiar token in the storage ring. “Hm? What’s this?”

About a cun long, it was covered in rust and surprisingly heavy, its material unknown. The ancient seal-script character “Kun” was carved into its front. He studied it for a few moments but couldn’t make sense of it, so he put it away again.

Gu Han clasped his hands toward the corpse before him. “Fellow Daoist Changmei, now, we owe each other nothing. I’ll take my leave!”

As a person, one must be magnanimous! The man’s dead; why hold a grudge?

This time, Changmei didn’t rise from the dead again.

Just as Gu Han emerged from the secret realm, a little black dog jumped out. Its eyes were fierce as it bared its teeth and barked incessantly. Since it was barely a chi long, its voice was soft and reedy. If not for the single horn on its head and the wild, untamed demonic qi still radiating from it, no one would have believed it was a demonic beast.

Gu Han was taken aback. Even its bark changed?

Right then, a rooster wing shot out from the side, smacking the little black dog on the head. “Quit barking!”

The little black dog let out a couple of whines, but it kept glaring viciously at Gu Han, threatening to bite him at the slightest provocation.

Gu Han was dumbfounded. It’s not fighting anymore? Master Rooster actually tamed it?

A trace of weariness flickered in Chongming’s eyes as he glanced at Gu Han. “Kid, stop staring. From now on, he’s my little brother... Come here!”

The little black dog trotted over to Chongming’s side and nuzzled affectionately against his thigh. It then let out another vicious bark as it saw Gu Han staring at it.

Gu Han was baffled and in disbelief. “Master Rooster, how did you manage that?”

The space before them was a complete mess. The ground was filled with craters and fissures, and the terrain itself was drastically altered. Clearly, the fight just now had been no small matter. Gu Han also knew Chongming’s strength very well. Aside from being virtually unkillable, his actual power was not merely a world apart, but a hundred thousand worlds apart.

Chongming glanced at him. “It’s very simple! It can’t kill me!”

“And?”

“It gets hungry fast!”

“And then?”

“I told him that if he became my little brother, I would have his back. He won’t go hungry because he will get to eat as many spirit herbs as he wants!”

“That’s it?”

“That’s it!”

Gu Han was speechless. If it was that simple, why did I bust my ass running all this way?! I even screwed over the old ancestor!

He thought for a moment, sensing something was off. “Oh, right. Master Rooster, where did you get spirit herbs?”

Chongming gave him a strange look and shot back, “Aren’t you here? Why should I have to worry about such trivial matters? What good is having you as the Sword Chief if not for that? Oh, right. He has a name now. Call him Xiao Hei!”

Xiao Hei obligingly barked.

Gu Han was once again rendered speechless. Of course! The older the ginger, the spicier they are! And the older a rooster, the craftier they are!
