Supreme Sword Exalt
Chapter 546 - A Quick Scavenge?
A strange noise was mixed into the rhythmic chewing sounds. Suddenly, a flicker of pain flashed through the giant beast’s eyes. It threw its head back and let out a long howl. As it opened its maw, it spat out a tiny figure that came crashing down, smashing a bottomless pit straight into the ground.
Gu Han’s heart leaped with joy. “Master Rooster!”
I knew it, he isn’t that easy to kill!
High above, the giant beast trembled in agony. Demonic qi surged skyward. Its murderous gaze, as though it could devour everything in sight, was enough to seize one’s very soul. Another roar sounded as boundless fierce flames and demonic qi rained down. The beast blurred, then flung itself straight into the crowd of Lin family members, tearing into them.
Gu Han could see that a few feathers still clung to the beast’s lips.
“AHHH!”
“Family Head, save us!”
“Don’t eat me, please don’t eat me!”
The entire Lin family erupted in screams and wails, descending into utter chaos. The Lin family head, accompanied by several clan elders and a host of Saint realm cultivators, surrounded Gu Han.
His eyes were bloodshot as he snarled through gritted teeth. “It’s all your fault! All of this is your fault! If it weren’t for you, the old ancestor wouldn’t have died, and the Lin family wouldn’t have fallen to this state!”
Gu Han said earnestly, “In business, we can’t let personal feelings get in the way! You took my money, so of course you have to protect me!”
Protect your ass!
The Lin family head nearly lost it, “I’d kill you sooner—”
Suddenly, a young man’s anguished cry rang out. “Father, save me!”
A dandy Saint cultivator in embroidered robes had been caught off guard. The giant beast clamped its jaws around him in one swift bite.
The Lin family head’s eyes nearly split apart. “My son! You damned beast, let go of my son—”
He could no longer spare Gu Han a glance. Yet in the next moment, the beast’s gaze snapped onto him, filled with such violent bloodlust that his very soul nearly shattered. Without a second thought, he blurred and fled into the distance!
He wailed as he ran, swearing oaths as if his very blood were weeping, “My son, you died so tragically! Don’t worry! I will remember this revenge and avenge you one day...”
Gu Han felt like reminding him, Your son is still alive and kicking!
Gu Han called out after a moment’s thought, “Family Head Lin, since the deal didn’t go through, you have to return my deposit! A businessman can’t go back on his word!”
In the distance, the Lin family head nearly stumbled out of the sky. With his flight, the remaining cultivators lost their rallying point, abandoning Gu Han entirely as they scattered after him. The giant beast chewed twice, swallowing the forsaken young master whole.
Whether it was simply full or holding a grudge, it didn’t chase the fleeing crowd. Instead, its gaze swiveled and landed on Gu Han. Even though it was savage by nature, it was no mindless brute. It clearly remembered that Gu Han was with Chongming.
Gu Han’s scalp prickled as he forced himself to be calm. “Ah Gou, you really don’t remember me?”
Right then, Chongming’s deeply displeased voice rang out. “Little pup, I’m your opponent!”
The rooster had somehow crawled out of the hole and was shaking the dust off itself.
Seizing the moment while the beast was distracted, Gu Han blurred and appeared beside Chongming. “Master Rooster, are you alright—Hm?”
Gu Han spotted a chi-long, sharp white object protruding from the ground beside the hole.
He was dumbfounded again. “What is this?”
Chongming said with utter disgust, “A tooth! How many years has it been since this little pup brushed? The stench is overwhelming!”
Gu Han was speechless. I gotta hand it to him! No wonder the beast went berserk! A broken tooth would drive anything crazy!
Gu Han reached out to grab Chongming by the neck. “Master Rooster, let’s get out of here too!”
He figured that even if outrunning the beast was a stretch, he could still outrun the Lin family head and his crew. Yet just like before, he grabbed nothing but air.
He turned to see Chongming charging straight at the beast again. “Little pup, round two!”
The beast’s eyes burned even brighter with bloodlust after seeing the rooster. The grudge of the broken tooth had to be settled! It roared, not sparing Gu Han another glance. Its gaping maw opened like a bottomless abyss. Pitch-black and unfathomable, it swallowed Chongming whole once more.
But this time, it had learned its lesson. No chewing. Straight down the hatch. Having done that, it seemed somewhat vindicated. It licked its lips and prepared to swallow Gu Han too. Just as its front paw lifted, the pain in its eyes multiplied tenfold over what it had been before. It wobbled and was barely able to stay upright.
Faintly, strange sounds echoed from within its belly, and Gu Han understood again. It must’ve eaten something that upset its stomach this time.
The beast howled in agony and was forced to regurgitate Chongming once more. The rooster was drenched. He shook his feathers furiously, nearly vomiting himself. “Fucking disgusting—”
Before he could finish, the beast raised its front paw high and slammed him into the ground. Since it couldn’t eat Chongming, it decided to eliminate him physically. It went all out. Terrifying fissures spread in all directions, and the Lin family’s once-imposing buildings collapsed one after another. The shockwave even sent Gu Han flying far away.
Chongming’s voice rang out again. “Little pup, put some muscle into it! You’re just tickling me!”
Through the billowing dust, his eyes were wide and round. He spread his wings and leaped onto the beast’s head, crowing wildly, “Submit! Submit to me!”
Chongming wasn’t putting up a brave front. Even Pi Luo’s divine skill could only graze him. Moreover, his obsession with raising dogs ran so deep that he’d awakened even more of his potential without realizing it. The beast’s eyes were bloodshot yet its size was still too big. Chongming’s two claws seemed rooted to its skull because no matter how it shook, it couldn’t throw him off.
Left with no choice, it could only shrank further until it was barely a chi long. The beast bared its teeth and was locked in a brawl with Chongming once more. The battle between rooster and dog raged on, the commotion rivaling a fierce clash between two top-tier Ascension realm cultivators. Meanwhile, Gu Han could only helplessly retreat further and further.
The beast had shrunk to just over a chi. Whether it was its bark or its appearance, it no longer had anything to do with ferocity. Instead, it appeared almost adorably clumsy, and its voice had lost all menace. Two rows of tiny, sharp teeth clamped down on Chongming’s neck. On closer inspection, one could still see a gap in those teeth.
“Let go!” Chongming’s wings flapped relentlessly, slapping the beast again and again. “Let go now! I’ll break your teeth!”
A thousand zhang away, Gu Han was dumbfounded. As much as he wanted to help, he wasn’t as tough as Chongming, and his cultivation wasn’t as strong as the little dog’s. All he could do was watch. His gaze swept the surroundings where the Lin family territory had been reduced to rubble, and the clansmen were nowhere to be seen. Desolation and ruin stretched in every direction.
An idea then struck him. Since I’ve got nothing better to do, should I do a little scavenging?
