Chapter 2302: Phase Two of this war.
“My Lord…”
The Darkness Born spoke in a low, grim tone.
“The reports are… worse than we estimated.”
And… Son Darkness did not respond. He only stared at the being giving the report, the Darkness Born trembled.
Just like Lord Light, Son Darkness too had power over all Darkness Borns, no matter how strong they were. If he wanted, he could erase them from existence and he wouldn’t even have to answer to Ul’Thakar.
Why would he?
He was Ul’Thakar in some sense, he was created out of his will, he had some part of his consciousness inside him. In Ul’Thakar’s absence, Son Darkness was Darkness.
And the Darkness Born knew that—
That was the reason he was shivering in fear in the first place. Then finally, Son Darkness tapped on the throne’s armrest with his finger.
It was a silent command to continue.
The Darkness Born gulped, then he slowly raised his head and continued—
“In the last cycle… about one hundred thousand Darkness Worlds have perished.”
“One hundred thousand…?”
Son Darkness tilted his head, the crimson in his eyes became brighter. Those words surprised even him.
The Darkness Born trembled even more strongly, the Eternal-level Darkness Borns had all left for war, only the ’weak’ Darkness Borns were left to report to Son Darkness. Because they were weak, their worth was already low in Son Darkness’s eyes, which put them at a higher risk of being erased.
Since the war started, Son Darkness has erased six Darkness Borns simply because he did not like what he heard and while normally, the Darkness Born would have enjoyed a sight like this, when it was happening to him—
It wasn’t that amusing.
But again—
Tap
Son Darkness tapped on the armrest again, the Darkness Born understood the signal and continued with the report.
“Light has broken the Supreme Rules,”
He spoke in a bitter tone.
“And from how swift their movements were, they didn’t do it out of desperation, they had planned it all. They broke the Supreme Rules willingly.”
The Darkness Born then lifted his hand and a shard of shadow-crystal formed above his palm. A crystal that then started showing images in the air.
“Primordials attacked the Lowest-Level Worlds, Transcendents attacked Low-Level Worlds, and Eternals attacked Middle-Level Worlds. There were no armies, no mass attacks, just a few beings targeting a single world they knew they could destroy.
Everything happened so quickly that our worlds couldn’t even call for reinforcements. All of their armies perished before the battle even began.
They didn’t even leave the Worlds’ Will alone, all of the Worlds were devoured, making sure the damage is permanent.”
The images shown in the air then dimmed down, the Darkness Born raised his head as if wanting to say something important and—
“They did the same with our High-Level Worlds as well. Since they couldn’t target all our worlds, they only targeted our most important ones. A world that was being defended by five Eternals met fifteen enemy Eternals, Eternals that were armed with stronger relics and artifacts.
Because of that, most of our pillar worlds are… gone.”
For the first time, Son Darkness’s crimson eyes narrowed slightly. The Darkness Born took that as permission to speak more bluntly.
“The worlds that held our supply lines, our archives, the channels that carried orders and resources across the faction, with all those worlds now destroyed, we are… blind in most regions.
Communication routes have collapsed. Dark Relays that took thousands of years to build are shattered. Some worlds still cannot be contacted at all because the paths to them are broken.
We…”
For a moment, the Darkness Born hesitated, but then forced the next words out.
“We cannot distribute weapons properly, we cannot move reinforcements efficiently, we cannot even confirm some of the worlds’ status, whether they still exist or have perished.
We are… in quite a bad position.”
The moment those words were said, the entire Throne Pit turned… even colder. The crimson rivers on the floor pulsed, the place seemed to become even darker.
This wasn’t good.
Son Darkness’s expression alone was more than enough to understand that.
It had only been a week since the war had begun, and if this was the extent of damage in just a week then…
The first part of the war—
It was won by Light.
And no being of Darkness liked hearing that.
“And us?”
Suddenly, Son Darkness questioned.
“What about us?”
He asked, wanting to hear some level of good news. Light had gone all out, their plan was a clean, complete strike, a plan like this often leaves… weaknesses. Weaknesses that can be used later.
Son Darkness himself had given orders to attack Light’s defenseless worlds, and now he wanted to know how that played out.
“Our surviving worlds that weren’t attacked by Light did well, the Lowest-, Low-, or Middle-Level Worlds couldn’t do anything impressive because by the time they attacked, they had an army waiting for them, an army that had the home advantage.
But our High-Level Worlds were different.
Most of Light’s High-Level Worlds had no Eternals defending them, they were abandoned, their entire army had left, only the weak remained, weak that the Light most likely left to die.
And just like you ordered, our men went on and continued to devour Light Worlds, and we made sure to target only the High-Level Worlds.
Till now, we have devoured about four thousand High-Level Worlds, but now the pace has slowed down.”
The Darkness Born explained and Son Darkness tilted his head,
“And why is that?”
He asked.
“Light has completely abandoned defense, maybe because they have lost so many worlds to Anomaly already, losing more worlds does not make a difference to them.
They are focusing on offense and their Eternals, abandoning their own worlds, have begun targeting our Eternals.
Even our Darkness Borns fighting in the war are facing trouble because almost all of Light Faction’s Eternals are now participating in the battle.
If we do not reinforce them soon, then we will lose even on the front where we have an advantage because of Anomaly’s actions.”
“So instead of attacking Light Worlds, our Eternals have gone to reinforce our frontline?”
Son Darkness asked and the Darkness Born nodded.
“That is correct, my Lord.”
“So you are telling me…
The enemy attacked us, within a week they destroyed a hundred thousand of our worlds, and in return…
We have only destroyed four thousand and our attacking line has now gone to the frontline to fight a battle that will take centuries or even thousands of years to conclude…?”
Son Darkness asked and once again, silence fell over the place. The Darkness Born did not dare to answer, not when the question was asked in such a tone.
His silence, however, was enough of an answer.
And Son Darkness… as tough as his reaction was, in his mind, he too understood what was necessary.
Yes, war brought death and destruction that strengthened Darkness, yes, in theory, a war should strengthen Darkness.
That alone should give Darkness quite a strong advantage.
But…
This time, Light had a better plan, or more accurately, they had a stronger veil. While their attack wasn’t exactly a surprise, the quickness and decisiveness of it was indeed surprising.
This gave them quite a strong advantage, an advantage that they used well.
This war, from the start to the point they were at right now, had all gone according to Light’s plan.
In critical time, they took down their weaker worlds, they took down their important worlds, they destroyed the communication lines, they destroyed the worlds that were supposed to supply, they… fractured the Darkness Faction itself.
And even now, even when their attacking units that should have had free rein to go and destroy as many of Light’s High-Level Worlds as they wanted were forced to join the frontline as reinforcements, it went according to Light’s plan as well—
Because if they had not—
All their Eternals, including the Darkness Borns, would have perished and that would have weakened Ul’Thakar to an extent where Seraphielle wouldn’t just have an advantage, she would have an advantage strong enough to actually kill Ul’Thakar.
Yes, death, destruction and such were supposed to strengthen Ul’Thakar, but not when all the death and destruction came from just the Darkness Faction, that would weaken even Ul’Thakar.
It was all forced, the Darkness Faction had completely fallen for Light’s trap, it was something that hadn’t happened since the beginning of time and that is what made it so frustrating.
But…
This time, Son Darkness did not lose himself.
As much as he would like to erase the Darkness Born kneeling in front of him, he understood that there was no point to it.
He needed to calm himself.
He needed to… prepare himself.
For Phase Two of this war.
The phase where everything will now stabilize and Darkness—
It would finally take over and devour Light.
